They moved the release date of Borderlands 4 forward. September 12th, instead of 23rd. I wonder if that's because of GTA VI..

Moving it back I would assume is a delay. Moving it forward however...that's a lot more interesting.

They randomly released a screenshot “leaked” of Franklin with binoculars by the bridge for the container ship heist way back in 2013 and everyone was saying it was a fake screenshot. It didn’t have the 5 logo or any watermarks. Just one of Rockstars marketing methods. If the game really is this fall, we should have seen or heard something other than trailer 1 at this point since it’s 5 months to Fall 2025

That was over ten years ago.

We literally have direct comments from the CEO of Take-Two, who wholly own Rockstar, saying they're marketing it differently this time around due to a change in the times.

I'm not saying it's delayed or not, but I certainly wouldn't be saying because they didn't supposedly intentionally leak a screenshot by now that it means the game is delayed lol.

Moving a games already revealed release date forward by 1-2 weeks is a move that can only ever be to give it some more breathing room around a major release.

The question is what are they trying to avoid.

Yotei could be a big seller but it's PS5 only. BL is multi platform and has a completely free run on PC as VI's not releasing on that day 1.

Marathon could be why just because it's Bungie but honestly I expect Marathon to be a bit of a flop. I don't think it'll do well at all my self.

Marathon looks lackluster, I don’t think reverse delaying BL4 just because a game that is most likely going to flop is in the way when you had that date selected first.

It could be to avoid Marathon, it was the same day wasn't it? Yotei isn't long after that either. It could be the double whammy of those two they're avoiding and are just playing it safe, despite Yotei being PS5 only and Marathon looking like a flop waiting to happen.

Wouldn’t a delay be better in that case? Instead of releasing it early by almost two weeks?

That's the only other alternative I could think of, and frankly even as a cynic I don't think Marathon would be nearly enough of a reason to move well-rehearsed release schedules. I'm pretty much cards on the table that GTA VI is an October release now.

Not really cause then you would be directly competing with stuff like Yotei, EA FC, CoD and more. If they were to delay it'd probably be to 2026, and if the game is done most publishers (looking at you Nintendo) don't usually sit on done games, that costs money.

Forgot about that, that’s probably why they did that

I don't believe they'd move it just because of one major release, especially when it's relatively spaced out from Borderlands 4. If anything, I'd guess it's because that time period is already packed with releases - and they probably expect even more to be announced for that month.

However, if this really is about making room for GTA VI... I just don't understand the timing. Did they only now definitely decide that GTA VI is targeting this year? Because obviously they could've just picked a different release date for Borderlands 4 from the start.

both were planned for the 23rd apparently, so even if marathon looks like a flop it's most likely this

Yup, that's exactly what may have happened, remember Strauss saying that Take-Two/Rockstar were confident about this year, but he didn't want to jinx it? They may be 100% confident now, and if that's the case, VI release date news in the next two weeks.

I mean if the game is to come out late October, I don’t see why they’d release BL4 early. It’s more than likely marathon and Yotei being close to it that likely resulted in this decision

Because it gives Bordelands 4 more time to shine/sell before everyone gets taken by VI and forgets about it.

Why don't you assume that there won't be any news on the release date of the game until August? For example, shortly before the August financial investor call. Do you not believe that Rockstar can announce the release date of the game potentially 2-3 months before the release? Do you not believe that they will spend only 2-3 months on marketing such a gigantic and phenomenal game? Pray that this is at least 2 months of marketing, and not a shadow release like the recent Oblivion, lol
