GTAForums Census 2024 Results

Recommended Posts

This project has been on the back-burner for quite some time now, but I wanted to get it out before the end of the year.

The data pertains to last year, around the time the first trailer for GTA 6 was officially released.

It has been 392 days since, and unfortunately we haven't received another trailer or official screenshots.

So feast your eyes on some charts in the meantime.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the GTAForums Census last year. :D

Some time next year I'll release an infographic with the rest of the favorite optional questions.

Tommy above Carl, that really surprised me

The 80s nostalgia tied in with the classic Italian mob theme has a big part to play in that, the 90s Los Angeles vibe is definitely just as great but mafia stories and 80s just hit a certain feeling

That was very interesting to read and I loved the visuals and colors. A++!!

How comes Most and Least Visited sections share 4 of the same categories?

It was originally two separate questions in the census form.

In hindsight I guess I should have kept only the most visited sections to avoid confusion; but I guess it's also nice to know what most people don't visit that often too.

Thank you very much for all these years and this wonderful year, 2024!

What a fantastic community! In the era when internet boards are dying like computer and video game magazines, newsgroups, IRC chats, etc. Nowadays we only have Discord, Facebook, and all that disorganized, fragmented sources of information and discussions. For me, it is an honor to be able to use these message boards.

I sincerely hope that 2025 will be even better for everyone.

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Oh, I see! It’s people’s responses to questions, not traffic data. Thanks!

Yeah, should be clarified that a lot of the data is from "census" responses from last year. Number of threads, posts etc is all data from the forums though.

While sloh asked for data for this I did kind of forget we could get some stuff from Google Analytics as well, so I'll post some of it here - I do know that exporting it is a bitch though, so...

For the data nerds and other misc. facts:

Spoiler
  • The weeks between the announcement of the VI trailer date and the VI trailer launch amassed a total of 54,912 posts
  • The GTA VI trailer release thread threw itself into 4th place in most reacted thread, with 328 reactions. Still could not beat the leaks (897 reactions), for obvious reasons - they were posted here and they (unfortunately) were our first proper look into GTA VI.
  • Excluding "Like", the most used reaction this year was, unsurprisingly, the :kekw: - 66,827 reactions or 53.7% of the total.
  • Between November 2023 and now, December 2023 had the most amount of people banned (84). Best to not get into the why there, those who were around will know... That includes sock-puppet accounts and other trolls of course.
  • Between November 2023 and now, the post-per-day peaks were as follows:
    • 8th Nov 2023: 5,182 posts
    • 1st Dec 2023: 3,795
    • 4th Dec 2023: 4,838
    • 5th Dec 2023: 7,344
    • 16th May 2024: 1,244 (T2 conference confirming Fall 2025 for GTA VI)
    • 25th June 2024: 1,666 (GTA Online: Bottom Dollar Bounties launch)
    • 10th Dec 2024: 1,778 (GTA Online: Agents of Sabotage launch)

Google Analytics data (Nov 2023 - now):

This data doesn't include people on devices which use adblock extensions or anti-tracking scripts which may block Google Analytics

* Some pages are tracked as (other), this can include topics in the GTA VI section

Spoiler
  • From November 2023 to now, GTAForums has amassed 36.3M views.
    • The week of the GTA VI trailer had 1.6M views alone on the site.
    • The most viewed section was, unsurprisingly, the GTA VI section with at least* 1.2M views. In second place, the GTA Online section with at least* 455K.
  • In the same timeframe, the country ranking (good to compare with the manual census!) is:
  1. United States
  2. United Kingdom
  3. India
  4. Indonesia
  5. Brazil
  6. Germany
  7. Canada
  8. Russia
  9. The Philippines
  10. Australia

Maybe it's a sign of the times, or just from the lack of GTA VI news... but the most startling contrast for me is: 35,185 topics were created in 2016, and only 4,524 topics were created in 2024!

Just something I noticed when comparing this to the 2016 census for fun.

I'm shocked how many people browse on their phone. The popups take up nearly the whole screen on mobile with the tiniest X buttons imaginable, it's a nightmare.

I'm also disappointed that Online beat GTA III. Shame on y'all.

And Michael beat Trevor? Michael has like no personality at all.

Well, topics created aren't exactly proportional to the total amount of posts, because there's a lot of larger threads where people congregate and post a lot. GTA Online discussions were also a lot bigger back in 2016, as it was only 3 years old and it had come out on PC the previous year.

GTA VI getting marketed and properly released will probably show a longer-term difference again.

Yeah the mobile version definitely needs more work, but after a while you get used to it

You guys are getting pop ups on mobile? I don't get any, even with my browser's built in ad blocker turned off
