@AUS I seam to remember someone bringing that up but I personally never heard them, although I would like to. But that does raise a question for me, should we even bother looking into content that was either cut or never used as a means of a hint? Also in an earlier post you brought up the fact that the aliens were never fully explained and I have to agree with you there @soul Big Perm is a character from the movie Friday. An ice cream truck driving Dope Dealer that Smokey owes money to ..Edit.. @everyone I found quite a few things. Most are simple EE, some are just strange and I have no explanation for them. I don't think that they tie into the mystery. I don't see an active Easter egg thread, so my question is... Do I post them here or should I post them elsewhere? for example... If you walk to the house next to Franklin's original Safe House a phone can be heard ringing (with two different ring styles) but no one ever answers it. I guess it could be seen as a hint to old-school GTA assassination missions, or perhaps it's just a phone ringing in an effort to give ambiance and depth to the game. yet I've never been able to find this happening anywhere else so I tend to think that this is a one-off another example would be... I was down by Mission Row when I overheard a conversation between two of the homeless women where one says to the other she is Kraff reincarnated and she's come to punish all the Epsilonest for misinterpreting her message.
-
For me it's side missions. The ones it has are alright, but it doesn't feel enough for multiple protagonists. The beginning should've been longer to allow Franklin to do some repossessions. I also think when Michael started helping out Solomon he should've been able to be a bodyguard/enforcer for the stars. Think of the Crowd Control side mission in Saints Row 2. I also miss import/export missions. The 5 we do for the Epsilon program is painfully pathetic. BTW Zac I've been watching your Youtube channel the last few days. Some really cool and informative stuff you have.

I just bought the last-gen version of GTA V for XBOX 360.. and i will never touch the current-gen version again. I'm done with this sh*t. I don't want to install stupid patches that are meant for GTA: Online only and ruin the singleplayer mode which stupid bugs and stupid GTA: Online adverts on the loading screen. You can't even start the game without being online on PC, it might work several times but then it wants to reactivate my activation key.. Sure, i can easily download a crack and use it that way, but wtf.. i payed 60$ for this game to crack it afterwards? Nah. I'm okay with the last-gen graphics and fps.. It runs really great on 1.00 and feels more like a GTA IV sequel to me. R* even managed to ruin the story of GTA: Online. They said it's based before the events of GTA V and after the stupid Saints Row update, the guy says it's 2017? (Yeah, i don't even now what that guys name is, this is how much i care about GTA: Online.) Damn, R*.. you were better at this. -

GTA has always been somewhat grounded in reality, even San Andreas. The wacky stuff is dished out sparingly while staying in a world similar to ours at the same time, keeping the balance. If the series didn't have any realism whatsoever, every GTA installment would be like Sunset Overdrive or Saints Row IV. Unfortunately, GTAO seems to be going in that direction which makes me worried for future GTA's. -

I disagree with the whole GTA turning into Saints Row comments. The Online is being presented as over the top and why not? There's something there for everyone. The kids can have their futuristic fast cars while I cruise in some of the classics from older GTA games. Story mode is not and will never be turned into the way GTA Online. Now, overall, I think IV multiplayer was better because of the environment and just being able to straight up murder enemies without worrying about money and stuff but GTA Online is still great fun with friends. The way I also look at it, and I'm not sure what others believe, but Los Santos is based on Los Angeles and Vinewood based on Hollywood so all the game modes and crazy cars could be based on that which is fine by me. Half the people here prefer single player anyway and single player hasn't been touched. -

I am honestly not the least bit worried about GTA as a franchise. I am not saying I agree with locking so much post-release content into Online, but so long as Rockstar continues to bring us the kind of robust SP launch game in GTA, like what we saw in V, then let them do whatever they please with Online. I don't have to agree with it. But I like to look at trends. Rockstar improved and expanded upon the SP experience in the 3D Era from III to VC to SA. And look how incredibly they objectively improved on GTA going from the lackluster IV to the awesome V. I mean, that shows incredibly resilience and a deep and profound desire to continue bringing us a quality product, not to mention learning from some very bad mistakes. Both of those factors shows me that so long as that work ethic and creative energy is maintained, that the SP experience of GTA will only get better and better. I think people are so angry about Online content being locked, and I will admit this is not something I agree with. And because of this they forget how wonderful of a launch title GTA V really is. I won't lie. If Rockstar improves on V even a fraction of how they improved going from IV to V, GTA will remain the blockbuster game it has been since 2001, even with a notable 2008 hiccup. I think that the GTA community, well okay, mostly the Chicken-Littles in this forum, just love to run around prophesying doom and gloom for a series whose last game was truly one of the best in franchise history. Going by the stellar quality of GTA V, there is no doubt in my mind that even with all the freemium thuggery and paywalls, making the Online portion of the game so open to scorn, the SP component is still the best thing out there, and that includes even Saints Row, a franchise that may be my second favorite, behind GTA. I would say that GTA VI is going to be even better than V, and let me tell you something, that's not going to be easy to accomplish! -

First off, I would like to get this off my chest. I love GTA, I love almost all of Rockstar's work and passion to bring out their creative vision to life, the GTA series of games gives me satisfaction that many other games fail to do so. As a passionate fan of GTA like many people here are, it disappoints and saddens me that the direction and approach of the series has turned into something that is so un-GTA as possible. I seriously can't believe that it's sheer focus is now on monetizing and milking the "GTA" name rather than artistic vision that Rockstar so well prided upon. Seriously, flying cars, flying bikes, Batmobiles, Cloning, and stopping a megalomaniac from launching a nuke to save the world? GTA has turned into just as over the top if not more so than the so called "copycat" that was Saint's Row. Before GTA V and Online released, Rockstar always relies and strives upon quality. They make games not just to entice players to have fun in a massive, lived-in open world, but also serves as a unique experience for players to get sucked into a world that is so strange, yet so eerily familiar at the same time combined with the ethos of cinema, politics, music, and pop culture while providing a subtle, yet humorous outlook at America. GTA is so unique and charming due to it's identity by setting trends and revolutionizing how far can games reach the upper echelon of the so called virtual reality. Roger Ebert once said that video games cannot be art. During his time, games are very simple and provide amusement for people, but as soon as games started to get more and more life-like and cinematic with the fast outburst of progressive technology, us "basement dwellers' were finally treated to something that can be described as "art". Grand Theft Auto III is one of the games that revolutionized the gaming world. It had something else that no other game has done before. GTA III gave players the sense of immersion, providing freedom in a satirized sandbox rendition of New York City while presenting players with a cinematic story through the eyes of a criminal. Freedom, immersion, and deep storytelling are all the themes and cornerstones that set a precedent for the franchise to become something that can be called "Art", and that is what made the franchise so successful in the first place. Nowadays, with the gaming industry getting bigger and bigger, with all the cancerous business practices that plaque the industry like loot boxes, microtransactions, low effort DLC's, and more. Rockstar decided to follow a successful trend from a business standpoint, and built GTA Online upon that practice. I can see why they are doing this, microtransactions are low effort, but can be used as a platform for easy monetization. First and foremost, they are a company, they strive from money and stocks from shareholders. I completely understand that from a monetary POV, but but as a gamer and a fan of the series, I can't help but feel that the special and remarkable traits of the series are starting to fade away in favor of tedious grinding, paywalls, and dull repetition. I'll be very honest, about a year ago, I was worried about the state of both Rockstar and GTA, but still remains cautiously optimistic about their future, but today I am not sure whether I can be hopeful about the series that I love and passionate about. -
STOP THIS, it's not just "as well done as IV's" IT'S A TERRIBLE SYSTEM IN GENERAL, previous GTA games have a better Melee system, other Open World Games have better Melee systems, Saints Row has a better Melee system, etc. This isn't a IV vs V thing, it's a general thing that in gaming, GTAV's Melee system sucks, even the best reviews of the game and those who praise it on other places say this is one area where the game is bed, etc, stop trying to be a super fanboy esquire here man, you've even said you've played Saints Row, etc, compare it to those, can you REALLY say it's satisfying compared to those games at least? And honestly, if you DO think it's a great system, then that's it, I really can't take anything you say serious, you're a joke poster from here on out and I hope you have a lovely time turning every little thing back to IV vs V in this section of the forum, I'm out LMAO you can use all the character assassinations you like, take my words out of context all you like, and attempt to spam this thread with nonsensical banners to bolster your Snore-butthurt IV butthurt. Its all good. But I NEVER said V's combat system was great. I said three things about it: -Hand to hand combat is of ancillary importance, at most, to a sandbox game. -Even though it is better in IV, who cares? (see point #1) -And that it is fine and acceptable in V, and satisfying (lol for all of the THREE minutes I spent using it in any of the MANY 100% campaigns I have done in V) Your overblown, nonsensical interpretations only show that you are more interested in belligerence than discourse. As far as the whole IV versus V you are whinging about, you small, fractional minority of butthurt fans, stuck in the past, are the ones that keep extolling the virtues of IV's combat system in this thread. Which, by the way, the thread isn't even about combat anyway. Yeah, I'm sure that's exactly what's going to happen. It was kind of what you were saying, though. But even so, if you say that isn't your position, then fair enough. But you did spit it back to me completely out of context, then responded to it as if it was my position, when you knew full well it wasn't. Hence, I assigned the quote to you, since changing my meaning or context means you own the quote.

I played a lot GTA V but I never purchased it.Now Im getting new pc and I wanted to buy it, but I decided to move on. This gta(Mostly next gen version) is half job aimed for casual gamers that never played GTA before. They are constantly aiming for online part of game, with load GB of bull*hit missions and Saint row type of vehicles that I cannot never use as SP player.Police is OP and not fun as in GTA IV or 3D era.NPCs are so offensive making this world unlikable.Damage is nonexistent, making this game some kind of Need for Speed.Country area has old San Andreas better, remember these forests?Where are mechanics as insurance?I know in online... Only thing I want from r* is remaster of VCS and IV and after that they can totally vanish Singleplayer part of game.

I spared Packie. I was obligated to do you. I saved him as Michael too. The irony of that no reference but Saint Michael who died in IV to have Mike from V help him escape + hired him in every Heist..I made that dude rich! Not 2.1 Billion like MTF but rich. Option C! I massacred, scorch earth mot#^}%f*cked that ULP badly that I hope Karen felt it! The Doc, after the story, I wait until the same clock time as the beginning of the game where M is done talking & helps Lamar & Franklin. The irony is sweet. Killed Josh, stupid btch! Killed The paparazzi guy. I spared Ashly. Why? Karma was knocking on her door.

San Andreas isn't exactly innocent though. I wanted to keep the Leviathan with its magnet, but the game the didn't let us wtth out the aid of mods. Not putting the blame on it or saying it opted for realism over fun, but it's something I think is a collective issue for the series as a whole I've never been a fan of mission exclusive content (including what's in GTA IV), but I was hoping by the time of GTA V R* would start changing their ways. I agree about Saints Row. Atleast nothing from that series as far as I know is relegated to just missions locking the players out for use in free roam.
-
I never understood that either. At least add it in as an unlock for later on if you don't want the player to have it through most of the game. This is one of the things I think Volition understand with Saints Row that Rockstar cannot seem to grasp. Limiting the player early in their save is fine, even a good thing. But at some point, don't you want to let your players have these cool things added as unlocks? Regardless of how people might feel about games like Saints Row, the one thing Volition loves to do is lavish the player with ridiculous toys that they can use...or not, at their own discretion. Rockstar tends to be miserly with GTA, which I believe started with IV and has continued in V (lest you think I am picking on IV). But this has always been a common complaints I have with both games. Games like San Andreas and Saints Row seem to be all about cramming the games full of fun over realism. Not allowing players to have access to the weaponized version of the JB700 had to be a deliberate attempt to limit the fun, in favor of realism, and may even be one of the MANY bullying strategies to get people tired of SP so they could go Online to buy Shark Cards.

I just watched the trailer for a new heist and it is absolutely in Saints Row territory. It's ironic that the original is now ripping-off the rip-off. If GTA V is the blueprint for future GTAs (and it should be, as it rakes in the coin) then I have no interest in it anymore. -
Collectibles map was great back in the day. Even Saints Row has one in their latest games. But the truth is that VCS was the ONLY GTA that ever offered this. So while V doesn't have it either, either did IV or SA. So obviously this is not something Rockstar wants in the actual game, and I totally respect that. I have found the Social Club is generally very reliable, and worst case scenario, you have to wait a few minutes for your save to sync with the site. No biggie.

The f*ck is that supposed to mean? sfourore? If you're going to jump on the bandwagon of childish names to insult GTA IV at least come up with something legible. FAIL. Anyway back on topic. Honestly after the latest GTAO update trailer it makes GTA V look really grounded. The flying cars, bikes etc are so un-GTA. GTAO has no identity anymore. It wants to be Call Of Duty, Saints Row etc all mashed together. Aslong as it doesn't make its way into GTA VI's single player I'm good. I don't mind some over the top action, but not when it crosses the line of being stupid and detrimental to the core. -

It fits the nature of the game. There's nothing to feel so shocked about it. Nobody is forcing you, or others to play it. Those Facebook users seems to have no clue what video gaming is all about. If anyone is upset about the direction then they can gladly stop playing and get back to sIVore, and it's crappy, boring gameplay. Just like I have stopped playing it, and enjoying other better GTA's in the series. Also, I don't know why this has been posted here. It's the update for Online, not SP. So, Rockstar understands (sadly ) that this update might not fit, or be too out of context for the SP portion of the game. People play games to enjoy, and Online is an absolute blast. Nobody gives a sh*t whether it feels like Saints Row, or JC, etc. Rockstar has created almost every update that all look like they are part of the opportunities for making the game world more accessible by adding more interesting things to do. Having a couple of features like jetpack, and all, doesn't make me worry about the series direction, not it feels like Saints Row. People are just overreacting. The only thing makes me upset about the direction is the increasing attention towards Online. I don't hate it. It's amazing to play with friends, but that doesn't mean single player should be sidelined completely. Not acceptable to me. So video gaming means to have ridiculous sh*t in a game that doesn't fit the setting at all in it just so some kids are happy and think its "fun"? WTF GTA VI will show if Rockstar thinks that sh*t like this shouldn't be in the SP, they don't give a sh*t about GTA V's SP thats why they haven't added anything to it at all (good and bad parts). And what does GTA IV have to do with anything here? Apart from some SA missions which came close in some ways, no GTA has had this type of ridiculous sh*t in it. Nice try "Osho". -

Cosmic Gypsy replied to Cosmic Gypsy's topic in GTA V
That's the thing, none of it really fits the nature of the game, play any online R* made mission or game mode, the whole aesthetic of the game, playing V when it first came out you'd never imagine online play having rocket bikes and flying cars. IV was pretty bare bones itself, and far from the pinnacle of what GTA could achieve if more grounded and down to earth. If you was to say to a GTA fan 3 years ago, by the way, GTA V will turn into Saints Row in just 3 years, they would laugh at you, or be annoyed at the fact they agree with you. The Facebook users definitely have a clue about what the games about, and it isn't flying cars. @Journey_95 The way things are going, i wouldn't be surprised to see the next GTA adopt some of these cartoony elements into SP and kind of abandon the dream of having a decent crime system. Having these things in Online is bad enough though that's the thing, i enjoyed online but over time it became more of a joke, stopped playing it maybe 2 years ago and by the look of things, won't be going back. Should i be forced to just "not play" as an original GTA fan from back in the day who wants more GTA, criminal related things in the game? No. -
Now i know a lot of you are going to disagree, and that's begrudgingly fine by me, but I'm constantly being stunned by the direction Rockstar are heading in when it comes to DLC, and i see a lot of other Facebook users feel the same way. The reason I'm stunned is because of the sci fi, fantasy, somewhat ridiculous nature of the DLC they're bringing out now days. For example, I'm seeing a lot of tron bikes, flying cars, tanks with rail gun cannons, fighter jets and races in the sky with roller coaster xtreme G3 esque tracks. I'm not cool with this, GTA to me now feels more like Saints Row and Just Cause combined, set in Los Santos. It leaves me worried for the future of GTA, how they've gone from a not so realistic, comedic crime game (in a good way) to a futuristic battlefield. A lot of you are going to say it's fun, and i agree, but it's not what i buy GTA for, the criminal activities other Rockstar titles and older GTA titles feature are also fun. the game should be driving around with an uzi or an AK47, an RPG should be a significant threat and jets, helicopters, tanks and military vehicles should be the very pinnacle of whats available, and only to be stolen from the military base, so it's a challenge and if you actually manage to steal them, you deserve to rampage. Since a kid I've been wishing for a more advanced crime simulator. With dynamic drug dealing, much like Chinatown Wars, and a decent melee, robbing and mugging system, much like The Warriors and San Andreas. When GTA first came out, it was good, although i'd say sticky bombs and explosives in general were too available, but now the game is basically Saints Row, and i don't like it.

That is actually some good news It's pretty funny when you think about it. The San Andreas fanboys have been stamping their feet for 4 years for the sh*t jetpack. It's here, but only in GTAO lol. The latest update for GTAO looks so un-GTA though. Might as well call it Grand Saints Call Of Duty Row Theft Auto Online. I just don't know what else to say. Even as a longtime San Andreas fan, I have never quite understood the way that fans fetishized the Jet pack, and I always thought the jet pack was nothing but a cute little gimmick that looked great on paper, but never really did it for me in the actual game. In every single SA save I ever played, from 0% to 100%, I used the Jet Pack as the easy way to collect all horseshoes. Here and there, if I was bored, I would mess around with it a little, but it was always a very limited and limiting vehicle. To me, the only game that ever did jet packs in a satisfying and fun way was Just Cause 2, and that wasn't even a jet pack, per se. It is really parachute thrusters, but man are they insanely fun, and a much better jet pack than the actual one in SA. While I totally agree with the consensus that Rockstar has devolved into a bunch of freemium thugs for not making the online content available for SP, the jet pack is the least of my worries. Well this new iteration of the jetpack coming in the update now has rockets, so you already know it's gonna be the new griefing tool, as if the flying rocket bike and batmobile weren't enough lmao.

The text idea isnt bad, so it AND call options combined would be sweet. For me, it should work so the meter will go down if you said no multiple times in a row, or if you arrive late (2 o 3 ingames hours, depends how far you are from the meeting point, the game should be less strict about that). In V, there should have been much more options to do. So far, when you hang out you can only: - go drink - see a movie - golf (only between protsgonists) - tennis - darts - strip club AND, to top it off, they are restricted between characters. For example, with Amanda you can only drink and play tennis. Why? It would make sense to be able to do any activity with her, but nop. Whatever. With jimmy is the same thing but instead of drinking you go to the cinema (as F, you can take him to drink though), and with the rest of the characters is pretty much the same. I dont understand why didnt R* didnt do a massive cut & paste with the missing activities if it was a matter of lack of time of dev or something along the lines. More activities wouldnt definitely hurt (not to mention that arm wrestling was there from the beginning but was exclusive to Online, you can even see the barrel&wood props all over the map but cannot interact with them) and it would have changed that aspect of the game a lot. Imagine having all of the available activities from IV along with the already available: - Bowling - Airjockey (there are a few tables in Del Perro Pier) - Pool (having Tequila-la open at nights so you could take mojitos like in the stripclub, play with the darts set upstairs, and play Pool. Would have been a nice place to interact with. You could also play in the tabern at the desert where you can play Darts too. -eating (you would give the miriad of restaurants/fast food places available around all the map a good use for this) -Split Sides (hell, i dont even want to get in this subject) And: - drinking - cinema - golf - tennis - darts - strip club But with no restrictions whatsoever. Now that would have been awesome

I disagree with the statement I highlighted in red and made bold. Not because you aren't making a fair point, particularly with the rest of your post, because you are making sense. BUT because an up close and personal torture scene is more intimately violent and brutal than 99% of the crap we do in GTA games. Not because its more actually violent, but because most of what we do in sandbox games like GTA, Saints Row, Just Cause, etc., are from a more comfortable distance, so its easy to forget that you are basically causing pixelated carnage. Moreover, it is not a fair thing to say that people who would find that torture scene disturbing should not be playing a game like GTA. That is a little ridiculous for two reasons: First is because Dan Houser made it very clear that his intent with that scene was for it to be disturbing and to make gamers uncomfortable. Second, why would a level of discomfort with a particular part of a game, a small part that lasts a couple of minutes at most, mean that the person shouldn't be enjoying the rest of what a game like GTA has to offer? It is very judgemental to categorically say that the only way someone should be playing a game like GTA is for them to be completely comfortable with intimate torture in a game. People are uncomfortable and comfortable with all sorts of things. I will give you a for instance: I didn't like the game Manhunt. At the time, back on the PS2 era of GTA games, that game was insanely brutal and violent. But here's the thing: The entire game was like that. So I saw it kind of like the videogame version of one of those crazy-bloody slasher films or movies with words like "Chainsaw Massacre" in the title. What you are failing to take into account is that a movie like that, or a game like Manhunt (if I remember the game correctly) are targeting people who really like a lot of blood and guts and overt violence in their games. Say what you want about GTA games, but most of the violence in it takes place at a more comfortable distance. So GTA, even with one, lone torture scene, is NOT in any way the videogame equivalent of a slasher film So saying that anyone uncomfortable with By the Book because of torture is like saying that not liking slasher films or blood and guts in movies should never go see horror movies. When the reality is that MOST horror movies have one or two bloody or horrific scenes, but it isn't the mainstay of the entire film. Likewise, I would say that people who are uncomfortable with that kind of violence should probably NOT play Manhunt or even that old original XBox 360 launch title, Condemned. But there is a difference between having to endure one or two scenes a player (or moviegoer) is uncomfortable with, while enjoying the rest of the game or movie, and intentionally seeking out an entire game or film that boasts nothing but that level of debauchery. Same with porn verses soft-porn. Some people don't like to see hardcore pornography, but really love nudity or milder sex scenes. They would probably be all right with one or two really graphic scenes if it meant they get to enjoy the other 90 minutes, right? I just think that it is highly reactionary to judge someone as "probably shouldn't play games like GTA" because they are uncomfortable with one or two scenes in a huge, expansive game. Also, there is a huge difference between being uncomfortable with something while enduring it AND coming out publicly to judge and condemn it, right? The OP, for example, is not going on websites or trying to get store owners to take GTA V off the shelves, similar to what Jack Thompson and all those angry liberal activist groups did with GTA games. You really have to ask yourself, why does a person have to be completely comfortable with every, single facet of a game to be somehow worthy of playing it? -

I personally didn't even know By The Book was the controversial part when I first played. After years playing games like SA and Saints Row where I can dress up like a silly goof and beat people to death with flowers or a dildo, ripping some dudes' tooth out with pliers is so mundane. I felt the same way with No Russian in MW2, gunning down innocents would've held more weight if there weren't so many games out there where going on a rampage was as easy as one two three.
