It's probably a good thing that The Benz got fired he was trying to turn GTA into Saints Row and the Housers said f*ck no and fired him. Too late now though the damage has been done just look at GTA Online.

The GTA V Story Mode DLC Speculation Thread
Dangerous and sad replied to Choco Taco's topic in GTA V
That's just close-minded and stupid when you don't even know if the story and gameplay could be interesting and enjoyable. What gameplay and story?Adding dumb alien sh*t and zombies? This isn't Saints Row, they already added too much weird sh*t so far. Completely ignoring the fact that the third one was about the actual V story.I heard that was just for Trevor though. Or is it all 3??? -

I know, hearing about that stuff being scrapped is actually not disappointing. You can tell they were really trying to go for the Saints Row crowd at that point.
-
Not much of a loss really. Those DLCs sounded pretty damn stupid, with the Alien DLC bordering on Saints Row territory, and with the normal story DLC being focused on one of the three characters (Trevor?) instead of any new ones, it was going to be just as weak as well.

What's Your Favourite / Least Favourite GTA V Mission?
Pedinhuh replied to hillbillybrando's topic in GTA V
Favorite: I fought the law. Reason: It's a street race against two of the fastest cars available in the game, plus the music is very catchy. Least favorite: Did Someone Say Yoga? Reason: Most stupid minigame ever added to GTA(yes this can get worse than bowling), just made me hate Michael's family more, pretty much nothing happens, just drive from A to B while listening to more of Jimmy's bullsh*t and plus the drug trip seemed like something straight out of Saints Row. -
Go play Saints Row. The stuff you typed out are features that make the world alive. If you don't like immersion, well then, this game is not for you. Also: - Police too hard to avoid, drags certain missions on too long. - git gud, this game doesn't need to be casualized - Most songs on the radio were bad, except for a few. - everyone has their own taste in music, so you can't say that they are bad. I noticed that many people get annoyed by NPCs attacking the player by just standing close to them. This is actual feature. If you look at the NPC while standing right next to them they will attack you. Not all NPCs act this way though, some might walk away, some other might run and scream. Think about what would you do if some weirdo was doing this to you IRL, imo this is realistic.

3 years later....Greenrock's how do you view GTA V overall
Yinepi replied to greenrock's topic in GTA V
The quality of the writing feels like a 10th grader's 1000 word mid-term essay, and prevents me from truly enjoying the characters and often longing to create my own characters alas Saints Row/The Sims style. However, the voice acting itself is phenomenal. Stephen Ogg did amazing voice acting with Trevor admittedly. The music choices on its soundtrack, combined with its lackluster original score that puts me to sleep, has me switching off the music volume a majority of the time. Which is huge negative for game where I spend estimate 92 percent of the time driving in. The physics are undoubtedly the worst In the series, and perhaps close to even being the worst I've seen in an open world game. The driving has no challenge and all of the vehicles handle so similar and predictable, making driving very boring without a handling mod. It's appalling to think a game - in the same series - released 12 years prior has better physics. Yes, I am talking about GTA3. The amount of land is great in theory, but not when a majority of is not-utilized, or where some sections don't feel like what they're trying to be. Sandy Shores has too many billboards, palm trees and cacti placed in such a short distance to feel like a real desert. Some sections of the map could do with more roads, like a road that comes from the humane labs area and connects to that industrial area below it. The city of Los Santos is too compact and doesn't feel like a city at all, rather more akin to large village, which is unlike GTA4's Liberty City. Overall, while I do enjoy it, I still find that It's a canvas waiting for its paint. -
I agree with you on Rockford Plaza - it would give off heavy nostalgia from the days of Saints Row 2 riding in the mall security cars and having deathmatches inside.

I'd like to see them bring a gang banging dlc where you can take over turf, have homies with you, and some sort of gang notoriety system like saints row

The Benz did focus a bit on Online, but it was more reasonable. Everything up to Heists I think was The Benz's doing. Everything reasonably priced and would make some sense in the world (though using bikes in PSH is still stupid). Everything after was the Housers doing. Everything became "Saints Row" with stuff like Teen Wolf and everything became stupidly overpriced with things like paying $62,000 for a leather jacket and jeans.

Developers have tried this, but it's never come out good. It's an illusion and only makes a map worse, and when done makes it suffer. Entire sections of maps have been wrecked by copy pasting, it's a detrimental process that isn't nearly as good as ACTUAL variety, like in the GTA series or Saints Row 2. I'd take V or IV's map over maps like Manhattan from True Crime NYC any day. No they f*cking didn't. Steelport was a blocky sh*thole with almost no variety. Like, literally. Entire blocks were copy pasted - like the same 8 streets of suburban housing were put in multiple locations, it was an awful map with like three different types of environment. It's bottom of the barrel map making and the fact you're insinuating that it's better or at the same quality as V's map is insulting. Worse. How is this a f*cking bad thing??? So they're putting in effort to hand craft and make every inch of their map unique? To make every neighbourhood feel different and special? Like man, if you'd prefer people copy paste buildings over that then I don't even know what to tell you. No disrespect, but I don't see why we're supposed to give a f*ck about this.No disrespect, but that's just kind of a dickish way to respond tbh Very aggressive response. Did I hurt your feelings? You have missed the point. Variety ≠ Detail. San Andreas had variety but wasn't detailed (even for 6th gen standards). GTA4 had detail but wasn't good with variety. They're not mutually connected. Detailing every little pile of trash just to make an alley feel 'varied' is redundant in the general scheme of things. How many times is the player going to purposely look at all those piles of trash? Not often. Same principle of redundancy applies to the underwater sea. Why waste an extra few weeks of both time and money modeling 12 types of trash piles, when 2-3 really well detailed ones copy-pasted through out the alley would suffice in still making said alley feel detailed and get the game out to market few weeks quicker?

Haven't played it since Mafia 3. Watchdogs, WWE and Fifa also. Before always played GTA every couple days minimum. Now uninstalled for update space. Weird, I'm just disappointed at Rockstar more than anything at how the game/dlc for single player turned out. One of them companies I had genuine faith in. Let's put it this way. GTA V as a game (not including online) the dlc has been terrible. There hasn't been an addition for 2 years. I'd understand if they wasn't bothering with a version that they could drag over files (literally) to give the loyal customers (most sp ones are). Watchdogs has a story expansion coming out 2 months after release. This is the first GTA Update I haven't even researched on, care to see what's in it. Ps.. Get watchdogs. Amazing ducking game. Everything Saints Row and GTA wasn't. Story amazing only thing with it id say is driving is just average, but far from sh*t!. And with the story expansions coming. (Story and side missions in general are ducking long). It really is worth it if you feel disappointed with GTA SP now. First game, ever, I honestly feel will overtake GTA in terms of an American fictionalised crime current time sandbox. (I hated watchdogs 1 by the way. Absolute sh*t. Just so you's know it ain't a "enterprise" thing. My opinion, worst sandboxs ever. So it's saying something and how far it's come. When I think this can top GTA.. Lol.

I find this kind of poor argument. Just because hardware advances and high-detailed models can be created, in no way means game developers can't copy-paste and reuse assets to reduce development time, while still make their game environment feel detailed. Saints Row series did this copy-paste just fine and Steelport still feels detailed. Rockstar waste a lot of time modeling details and things they do not even need to. I completely disagree with this. One of the truly great features of the map - for me - is the distinctiveness of everything in it. If they'd reproduced the same house/warehouse/storefront all over the place then maybe the development time would have been shorter, or the map could've been bigger, but exploration would've taken a massive hit. Again, it's all down to personal preference - but for me, there's no way I would've sunk 200+ hours into GTA5, and still be playing it three years on, if they'd gone with the copy/paste map development. It just wouldn't have held my attention.....you would discover everything there was to be discovered too quickly. Saints Row III didn't for exactly this reason - the action was fun, and at times it was laugh-out-load hilarious - but I never even finished the game once because I found the map boring.

I don't really agree that one should rate a game higher because of mods. It's like if you have a game that is severely glitched with several game breaking bugs and warped characters. But 10/10 because some random guy not on the development team and otherwise had no connection to the games' creation made a funny mod that I found humorous. Let's think about it this way, GTA IV. Yes people say it's boring, but what if we added Saints Row style mods to it? Niko flying like Superman while a riot rages below between hotdogs and teletubbies? 10/10. But would it change the installment overall? No, there would still be discussions over it's quality, some cool mods won't change it. Mods are modifications, does everyone have access to mods? Even if everyone gamed on PC there would be people who'd find the popular mods crap. If you have to add something to make the original item more interesting, it does not make the original item better overall.

Is this kind of a concept art from the UI designer at R*N? It's funny how the MP hud still has the classic (GTA IV) radar and the original MP player concept.. GTA: Online could have been so much better with the original system (Gangs, Cops etc..) and not a Saints Row Coop ripoff. I also like the lastgen UI a lot more than the new one.

Sales will be as big as ever even if it will be heavily online focused, that will just create more demand for it from people who prefer online games like call of duty for example but thats just my opinion. If this is true it's very, very, very sad. What is the next best Single Player open world game to replace GTA with.. I'm afraid the life long relationship I've shared with R* and it's amazing titles is finally over All good things must come to an end i guess and with the direction they are taking I can't be the only one ready to pack up and leave R* for good, A shame the only decent alternative is Saints Row

Mafia III and Watch Dogs 2 are the new GTA and Saints Row now Rockstar have sold out RIP GTA SP 2014
-
This, another thing Saints Row did better... Mixtapes.

I don't think it's ruined open world games for me, as I still enjoy other open world titles. But it has set the gold standard for driving in an open world game for me. I can't stand driving in any other game like GTA. Watch Dogs, Saints Row, etc. all have really lousy driving in comparison.
-
That's funny OP, I feel like that, except about GTAV. Especially after playing Saints Row 2.

Same. I guess we might have gone a bit overboard with the post length but not everything can be said in 3 words. It's certainly doable. Look at Sleeping Dogs. The story may not be that great, but it serves as a good enough example of a serious crime thriller. But the gameplay is just insane. Jumping from car to car and throwing drivers out never gets old. Neither does seeing cars and bikes flip over after you shoot the tires in high speed. It's crazy and hilarious and I love it. So much in fact that SD was the first game ever for which I've bought a couple of DLC packs without waiting for sales, because even after 100%/platinum-ing the game I still wanted more of that crazy action. One of the DLCs is a hypercar with machineguns btw. And while there are no planes or parachutes, there's well done hand to hand combat where you can grab cleavers and throw them at people so it's got enough variety too. And other missions are grounded enough; there's a shootout during a funeral after all. The game has its problems but a serious lack of consistency wasn't really one of them, just like SA, despite being all over the place. So yea I'll take some crazy action if it's that kind of game and it's done well. No need to sacrifice the coherence for that. Sure, I mean if a game is able to gel its story and gameplay well, it's a plus, but obviously it's not possible most of the time. So unless we'd like to ditch the majority of current genres, we kinda need to live with games which are a mixed bag. But there are still better and worse (or at least different) ways to go about it. Besides, it's not just games... Take John Woo's movies. The shootouts are legendarily 'not serious', while the stories tend to be. I'm personally not a fan of the Saints Row games which are somewhat more twisted, more in the GTA V style of meshing everything together, but I've not played them enough to say for sure. Just Cause 2, ironically enough felt like a repetitive grind to me, it's fun for a few hours but then seemed like it's always the same. I got bored quite quickly. I guess when it comes to open worlds in games, nothing beats the feeling I had in the original Far Cry when I was looking for ways to go around some guards and stumbled upon a hang glider, allowing me to bypass the whole section and glide to the other side of the river. No GTA comes even close to that.
