It's been 19 years since the birth of GTANet, and boy a lot has happened. Some of us were not old enough to play Grand Theft Auto when we joined, and thinking back to 2001, some of us were not even born yet… GTANet has seen multiple generations of fans come and go, but we all arrived with the same shared passion, not just for the weather, but for Rockstar Games titles. Together we celebrated the first true 3D GTA, Grand Theft Auto III, and over the years that followed we created several websites to support every game release, alongside developing GTAForums as our community base. 19 years later we're still here, waiting for Grand Theft Auto VI, waiting to get our minds blown, just as we were back then. The first exclusive screenshot GTANet received from Rockstar Games back in 2002 To pat our own backs for a second, GTAForums has done well running for as long as it has. Forums as a platform to communicate are not as popular as they once were, but with a dedicated team of staff and ever-thirsty fans playing their part, we still hold our own in the GTA community. Unfortunately, our network sites haven't received the same attention these past few years. We're all a bit older, all have a few more things in real life to get on with, you know how it is, but now is the time to look forward. This anniversary year seemed like the perfect time to get back to basics, get back to our roots, and bring one of the oldest projects in the GTA community back to life. The GTANet Portal at GrandTheftAuto.net promises to keep all existing information we've gathered over these 19 years as accessible as it always has been, and over time we'll be archiving all of our articles from the past right here on this domain, but for now we've dusted off the covers and will be bringing in new articles, new community spotlights and any news we can get our hands on relating to GTA, Red Dead and other Rockstar Games titles. Welcome home. --- The GTANet Team

By the way, Lebron was nr. 6 when he played for Miami. At this point, I think that R* is either teasing us, or massively trolling us.

So back in 2008 when I was going through my first playthrough I started doing some dumb sh*t. I spent an entire night blowing Niko up using grenades just to watch Niko's dead body jump over a rooftop. Finally succeeded after 3 hours.

When I think about it, I don't want R* to milk the GTA Series, however I would of hoped for another entry a little sooner. They literally skipped an entire console generation, which is crazy when you think about it, GTA V was 360/PS3, just simply ported over to next gen, so It's been 7+ years, worse case scenario is even if they announce now, we're still 2 years from release, so that'll be 9 years. And if it's this bad now, can you imagine how damn long GTA VI-GTAVII will be? *84 years*

No. Even if I can’t really imagine Niko killing innocent people for the hell of it sometimes it’s a good stress reliever just to mess around with the physics. I think people go overboard with this stuff. Niko’s not presented as some goody two shoes choir boy. He’s been through a lot of sh*t and seen a lot of it too. It’s not far fetched that he has serious mental problems and it’s f*cked with his head over many years. Sometimes I go on killing sprees when Niko reaches a point of frustration in the story and I just see it as his way of venting. Even in the story Niko doesn’t harp on about not wanting to do bad things forever. He gets so balls deep into the criminal underworld that he becomes a deadly assassin and finds it difficult to let go. I kinda feel like people mostly say things like this because Niko’s such a highly praised character without many objective flaws due to writing that they have to scrape at the bottom of the barrel even if that means trying to break the story flow by running over old ladies after Niko’s given a detailed recollection of his life. It’s silly IMO, but if that’s what people want to do then each to their own.

Rockstar maybe not, but the unique game design that makes a Rockstar game a Rockstar game is definitely Sam, Dan and Lezlie's personal style. Mashing the X button to run when no other modern game chose to do that, the aiming, the dated yet enjoyable game design, etc; We've lost 2/3 of the creative OGs of Rockstar. The question is if, when that unfortunate day comes where Sam departs from Rockstar, if they'll be able to carry the torch. I'm almost positive Dan left AFTER he finished work on GTA VI though. I cant see him not wanting to give one lost hoorah and leave one last mark on the series before he went. At the very least, GTA VI might be the end of chapter one in this long 20 year history of Grand Theft Auto. What happens in the next chapter, be it better or worse, is anyone's guess

@iiCriminnaaL 49 I agree. This is only semi related but I like the fact that IV features an all exclusive cast, meaning that all characters in story originated from that game itself. Sure GTA IV was helped by the fact that it was a reboot and so no characters from previous GTAs could return, and I'm not against cameos, but I feel IVs cast feels really special this way, feels like a self sustained universe of characters and made the story feel a bit more unique to me. Even GTA III has couple of characters from the previous game iirc so IVs cast feels unique and fresh and I think this was one thing it did better, it's story was memorable on it's own without any cameo characters from previous games appearing to boost the story so to speak.

Sam Houser is responsible for the games final decisions, the last built of the game(or anything that is put out by R*) HAS to go through Sam playing it, he is the last pillar of QA so to speak, eventhough, he sometimes just seems to waive things he is not concerned with, such as GTA Online initially, as he didn't seem to have noticed that Leslie Benzies had placed his name last in GTA Onlines credit section, something that made him furious later on, apparently. He also makes design decisions, when he wants something in the game, it goes into the game, no questions asked, there are reports of Sam wanting a First person mode in GTA Vs Next Gen Version, only 3 months before it released, Rockstars animation team had to crunch hard to get it in last minute so to speak. Also Sam had the idea of using real DJs in GTA Onlines After Hours Update, apparently he and his wife were great fans of Solomun, and when they saw him at Ibiza, they approached him and asked for things to get arranged.(According to an Interview with Solomun) Lastly he is mainly concerned about the business side of things, on the one hand controversy, such as the Hot Coffee scandal, in which he had to go to a hearing by the FTC and his phone and Emails were watched by the FBI. On the other hand cutting business deals with other vendors, such as the deal to extend Rockstars server infrastructure or deals with Microsoft or Sony about part time exclusivity of games and game content. He is the CEO, and mainly not a game designer, so he leaves the actual designers and artists, such as Rob Nelson, Aaron Gaarbut, Ian etc. a lot of room to do their jobs, but certain things such as the games setting,(this was the case when he decided for GTA Vice City to be set in the 80s, half of the R* Team was against it, but they went through with it, source for it is JACKED: an Outlaw story of Grand theft Auto), or theme, or certain features, or if he doesn't like something, it is cut out as well.

Franklin's cool. He's just a relatively sane dude surrounded by a group of exuberant personalities like Michael,Trevor,Lamar etc which might make him look dull in comparison for some, but imo he still has a unique personality of his own. He represents the more humane side of the V trio. He keeps advising Jimmy in a big brother sort of way, helps his childhood friend Tonya for no compensation, supports Michael when he gets involved with the FIB, bails out Lamar from his various dumb schemes again not for any self benefit , but because he's loyal and kind to those he's close to,which is where his personality comes out. He's mostly straight with people and generally doesn't come up with witty/sarcastic quips like Michael or Niko, but I like that about him. Not every protagonist has to be a charismatic type, I liked that he was calm and collected but wasn't afraid to call out guys like Stretch, Devin for their bs and even stands up to Trevor sometimes. His ambition, loyalty, forthrightness and kindness are traits that stand out to me and make me appreciated Franklin, even if it's a shame his character felt like a third wheel for the middle portion of the story, still a good character.

You never know, Rockstar could end up actually being better with someone else. I am pretty positive they wont stop gta after gta 6, everyone would be mad at rockstar. I also agree with you, I am pretty sure dan housers work is done for gta 6. I also love the way Rockstar keep quite about upcoming games etc, i feel like they are very professional compared to companies like EA ubisoft etc. They learnt their mistake for talking about games just look at agent.

I can't see Mafia working in the 80's. After Mafia IV if the rumors are true of 1970's Las Vegas I hope they go back in time to the 30s/40s.

The universe separation. Regarding the universe separation, it felt more complete in GTA IV. You could see some Easter Eggs referring to the 3D era, posters with pictures of some characters of the latter and the airport's name that was reused from GTA III (as well as Fernando Martinez as the host of Vice City FM in EFLC), but they all felt like nothing more than minor references. GTA V on the other hand was kinda flawed in that department. It brought back a radio station's host, Lazlow, but this time not only as a radio host, but as a supporting character that makes a physical appearance. What was even more disappointing is the fact that they brought back the four street gangs from the 3D era's rendition of Los Santos - Ballas, Families, Vagos and Aztecas, reusing the same styles, colors, and even names. Not only that, but they also made it clear that the Families formerly had a set operating in Grove Street and that the OGs heading it went out of town, which was the primary reason that brought the ridiculous "Just because gangs have the same names, colors and had influence over X neighborhood once doesn't mean that they're the same gangs from the 3D era, nor that any events that occurred in the 3D era ever happened in the HD era." conclusion on the table. With GTA IV, you might give it a think and figure out that the Hustlers and Spanish Lords might be the closest thing to what might be the HD era's counterparts of the Hoods and Diablos in GTA III/LCS, which wasn't only more different and unique than it is between GTA V and San Andreas, but also more interesting.

I think that's not necessarily the case since he was partly tempted to come to Liberty by Romans emails describing among other things Barbara with big titties and Stephanie who sucks like a vacuum. Also iirc you go to a strip club Niko will say 'so this is what American titties are like' or something like that suggesting he does have that desire.

When I hear the term 'Francis International Airport' I associate it with GTA IV rather than GTA III despite that it came in III first and it could have been more nostalgic for me that way, but it isn't I also think of Francis Mcreary whenever I see the name of the airport lol

No, it was a white Kladruber I saw. It's a nice name though and it's cool that your horse is named after your cat. That's still pretty creative. I named my horses after 2 of my favorite defunct car companies. My black rabicano Tennessee Walker is named Hudson after Hudson Motors and my leopard blanket Appaloosa is named Graham after Graham-Paige.

Same surname = same family Too many people think the Mendez brothers and T-Bone Mendez are related. And by that logic, Jerry Martinez and Fernando Martinez must also be family. Or Henrique Bardas and Mallorie Bardas or Armando Torres and Elizabeta Torres. For some people even first names are enough. I've seen folk think Vinnie from GTA Advance is Vincenzo Cilli (even though the latter f*cking dies) or Denise Robinson and Denise Clinton are.

Well, they did learn from some things, Matchmaking and combat is a lot more improved in Red Dead Online, and there is a significant amount of content, compared to GTA Online. Also they changed their update schedule to 4 Monthly, instead of monthly, to guarantee that the Updates are bigger/more overhauling. Rockstar did not have the resources to jump start Red Dead Online, they simply poured all they had into the Singleplayer, and they wanted to develop Red Dead Online over time, just as they did with GTA Online, which is not all that bad of an idea, considering that many design decisions can only be done based on statistics and player activity. For example the whole Anti-Griefing mechanics and fine-tuning them up to the point where griefing is almost impossible at this point, wouldn't have been possible if R* just would have kept Red Dead Online under wraps for that long. The Updates already started to get meaty with the Frontier Pursuits Update, I would imagine the next Update is going to be even bigger and overhaul a lot of things, while introducing new content. I do not think it will just be a single new role, but rather probably another three roles. I don't think the situation will have all that big of an impact on Red Dead Online, rather the opposite. We know that Rockstar employees are able to work from home, only partition of video game prodction that is currently "blocked" is MoCap, and I am not sure whether the QA Department would be allowed to access something as prolific as GTA VI, on network drives from home. So I believe the current focus is on GTA Online and Red Dead Online, while production on GTA VI is probably stalled, for the time being, Another indicator of this is that Rockstar North employees were recently given an additional day off(their Friday) to cope with the situation.

If the game is not set in Vice City then I also wouldn't mind modern Chicago. In fact Chicago back then was my favorite choice for GTA 6 until I started going back to Miami to visit and someone on here convincing me. But if Carcer city is based off of Chicago in the HD universe then that would be dope and you can also probably add other midwest cities like Detroit or Cleveland. The midwest region has some of the worst crimes yet. Also Chicago is now the homebase of the Mexican cartel.

I felt bad for Brian Jeremy in TLAD than remembered how much of a pathetic lying coward he was and I'm glad he gets what he deserved, surprised Billy put up with such an annoying and pathetic individual kissing his ass all the time. GTA TLAD is my favourite DLC and wish it was longer than like 20 missions, felt depressed completing the main story like things were way better at the start.

Seriously, how hard is it for R* to add a simple timer as to when the next business battle will start. They've done it before with the old crate drops (15 min, 10 min, 3 min, etc.). They really love making online as inconvenient as possible.

Not sure if this has been mentioned, I kind of stopped reading all of the pages here once March ended, but there was a 'leak' floating around a while back about a Mafia II remaster, and some Mafia IV info. Recently it seems this leak has been somewhat corroborated by the fact a Mafia II Definitive Edition was rated in Korea for PS4. Considering the leak was (so far) correct about the remaster, it could also be correct about Mafia IV which they stated was to take place in 70s Las Vegas. In fact, the wording of the leak reminded me of the RDR2 epilogue leak - not saying its the same person, it just wasn't a bulletpointed wishlist for a change. Just thought it was worth mentioning here considering that if it does turn out to be true, it almost excludes Las Venturas as a possibility in GTA next.

Definitely agree with you. Otherwise, I would've avoided making chaos in almost every other GTA title. So, no, just because Niko has some more humanity doesn't mean that free roam chaos make any sense for the other protagonists. It's simply excluded from being canon.

All depends on when the next game is set. If it's modern, I'd definitely love to see Phil Bell. He wouldn't be making big moves or anything, but I could see him running something like a small-time loansharking business in some small town. I've also got a very, very good feeling Dave Norton will return in the future. Seems a bit odd that no matter which ending he still got out of it all in one piece. If it's the past though? I'm 100% sure John Gravelli would show up somewhere. He's such a big name in the HD universe lore that it'd be quite easy to slot him in anywhere.

Nice finds! I think I post the Tallulah one before. I think I found Cohutta. This texture is found on this native tarp and is in the area files for jklm 7-10. It lines up pretty similar to how it did on the beta map, they just moved the whole section down east of Cumberland Forest. It also has files related to the army camp mission with rain falls there. They just took the name out in the game. Here are some more files related to that area and mission. nat_cohutta_01 nat_cohutta_01_tarp nat_cohutta_01_tarp+hidr nat_cohutta_02 nat_cohutta_02_debris nat_cohutta_02_debris+hidr nat_cohutta_02_tarp nat_cohutta_02_tarp+hidr nat_cohutta_02+hidr The nat_ stands for native. Cohutta is a name derived from the Cherokee language meaning "a shed roof supported on poles"
