One thing I'm particularly intrigued by is, what did they do to Little Haiti? How do you make this look good on Next-Gen? I'd love to see whether they revamped this whole area (like they did in Vice City Stories), given they touched up the Ocean Drive buildings, or if they still all look as super lazy as they did back then.34 points -

Well... something else, before going into oblivion. I think most have realized that in the cutscene heads in GTA3, the mouth is nothing more than an empty area of solid color, without any other details. This mod is pretty simple: add a denture to all heads in cutscenes. - All cutscenes heads with teeth modeled from scratch. - Minor fixes in UVMap. - Minor fixes in the skin of some models. - Alternate Colombian in the Introduction. (Thanks to @MikeTheFurryFoX for the suggestion, and @Sneed for permission to use the LCLF model). - Catalina's Head (PS2) (Thanks to @Inadequate for the model). But considering those terms are never used in the "correct meaning" on any Internet gaming discussion, but rather as a way for those more... critical, to try and forcibly validate their criticisms when someone is being positive about something to the point of annoying them... No debate ever should ever have to use any of those terms to bring a point across, there is zero justification for it. Not to mention, if you wanna argue semantics, a "shill" means they're being paid, which no one is, some people just don't find anything wrong with the games, and a "fanboy" is like the "Xbot" and "Pony" sh*t you see on social media that's been perpetuated for years now. You're not a fanboy or a shill for trying to talk your own argument into someone who is critical ("I hate character models" vs. "I don't find anything wrong with them"). It goes both ways, the person who hates them or thinks the game is some lazy job shouldn't be labelled anything AS LONG AS THEY'RE BEING CIVIL, and the person who likes them or tries to justify a flaw in the game, and thinks it'll be fine shouldn't be labelled a fanboy or a shill. You'd think it's this simple, but nope. And yes, there is a trend for being less civil arguing this stuff at one tip of the scale more than there is at the other. It doesn't just apply to GTAF, the GTA/R* community or gaming, really. The rest of the post is okay and that's what some of us have been trying to say, but not without being yelled at for "censorship". Either learn to argue in a civil way or don't bother, it's that easy. And yes, use the dedicated topics because then debate about certain divisive subjects can be more streamlined instead of mixed up with people talking about the rest of the games, and being correctly able to do so, without having someone quoting them and going "LOL DON'T PREORDER" (again not everyone) or some sh*t. ------------------------------------------------- As for the release talk going on here... To me I think it's pretty obvious projects like the DE were "outsourced" (except some aspects like QA I'd bet, we'll have to wait for the credits) so the main R* studios could keep working on their main projects. Absolutely sure GTA VI is in development, and who knows what else. Not to mention teams being put on GTA Online and Red Dead Online DLC projects at the same time, so I really couldn't see main R* heading a remaster when they can focus on current projects. GTA VI was likely always planned for this (PS5/XSX) gen tbh, even in the pre-production stages. While they potentially started developing the games (putting things on a game engine) still on old devkits or even PC, they probably have already moved over to the newest stuff as of a few years ago. RDR2 started pre-production at R* San Diego but by the time they started putting things in-engine I'm assuming PS4/Xbox One devkits already existed, given timing, so it likely never saw the Xbox 360 or PS3, unlike GTA V which was first put on a game engine in 2009 (the QA logs left in the PS3 version reveal this). There is less *raw power* in the new consoles than between previous generations but there's still more power and more features, so I think GTA VI will see a big graphics and gameplay jump much like RDR2 did, especially with the use of ray tracing, which I'm 100% sure it will have. R* knows how to squeeze them damn consoles.13 points -

No, they should be remastered with specific improvements while maintaining the original artistic vision instead of butchering it with inconsistent design. Look at the Quake remaster: - Free upgrade - Relicensed soundtrack - Higher Resolution models, fancy visual effects - All of which can be turned off if the player doesn't like it - Has some new content thrown in for good measure - Can easily revert to the original version whenever you want THAT is how you do a "definitive" edition. Not by forcing a change down people's throats that only some people want in the first place! If they f*ck up (and they already have seeing how mixed this visual style is already), there's no going back. The definitive edition is the only version that currently exists, the others are essentially wiped from legal history. THAT is not definitive, that is just anti-consumer.13 points -

But you would think it's normal for praise to be more prevalent when 1. this is a fan forum, it has other fans who will like the game too, and 2. despite reservations from many people, the majority of people around the Internet do enjoy the Trilogy (unlike, say, something like GTA V E&E that was a lot more heated everywhere). Actual debate is fine, what's not fine is when people try and bring any praiser down just because they personally think no one should praise the game at all, or derail proper arguments with silly middle-school level bickering. Sure, you can think there's cartoony characters and other issues. But people can also think everything is fine, without being called fanboys or other names like we've seen here (not saying it's anyone in particular, just posts I've seen in general). IIRC we used to have a specific praise topic for GTA V, and people would still go there to try and derail it because no one should like things apparently lmao.13 points -

So we're making a petition - it's mainly for Rockstar & Take Two to come out and address these issues publicly but I doubt that will ever happen. Unfortunately we've became a silent minority lately and I think it's time we make our voices heard. https://www.change.org/boycottgtadefinitiveedition EDIT: I know some people will ask what difference it will make, the answer is probably none. However this petition is a reminder that despite all the good reception GTA Definitive Edition got in recent weeks, this does not absolve rockstar and take two from their abhorrent behavior towards us. This should serve as a reminder to the community that this new trilogy title will not sweep all of T2's wrongdoings under the carpet.11 points -

I'll say this though - some of the negative crowd just regurgitates the same arguments over and over again: "it looks horrible because I don't like it", "political correctness", "Grove Street Games is terrible", "the games were never cartoony", "people who like this are blind fanboys", "modders did it better", "this detail I spotted is evidence War Drum Studios is lazy". Rinse and repeat, and threads get derailed because of it. It's fine to disagree and have nuanced discussion. Those debates are pretty fruitful. The pattern of threads constantly getting derailed over irrelevant arguments is just tiring though. The analysis threads have been derailed because of it.11 points -

Some may disagree but here it goes, meta moment: (borderline semantic arguing but idk) I personally don't think calling people "fanboys" or "shills" are insults nor do I think those terms are necessarily negative. I mean, it's also a matter of context so I am not painting this as a black and white situation. I believe that the majority of people think of "fanboy" as: Someone who's a huge fan of something, to the point where some of that appreciation may be wrapped/surrounded by some variable emotional charge/connection (negative or positive, it depends). That energy may or may not blind that "fanboy" to certain defects or negative aspects of something/someone (same goes for the positive aspects, the fanboy may possibly focus more on them). I would say that, in comparison to the regular fan, the regular fan seems to be more contained and attempts to not draw instantaneous, face-value, ?knee-jerked? conclusions based on their first impressions or based on their emotional charge/connection towards something/someone. From what I understand (and I hope I got this right) the "shill" is: Someone who is very likely a huge fan of something/someone, to the point where the appreciation of certain aspects may make others have the feeling that the "shill" is turning a complete blind eye to possible other negative things. Just like my "fanboy" perception, I believe the emotional charge/connection could be similar and existent. In fact, it's almost like they are the same type of people but the difference being that the shill turns a complete blind eye to anything which could be considered as negative by others (which can be both subjective or objective). I don't remember being called any of those two things so I cannot say what it feels like to be in that situation. Which means my entire argument could be inaccurate or missing the point. Either way, I think these two terms are an "easy way out" for some people to avoid going into too much detail as to why they believe someone is "wrong" (or right?). Now, why do some people prefer the "easy way out". It could be anything really: Someone who can't be bothered to write 20 lines explaining why they disagree with someone else. It's much easier to use a word that "categorizes" someone else. Someone who's trolling and taking the piss out of people who they know will possibly get a reaction out of being called something like this. Something else? Is it a bad thing to call people those things? I think that's not even the matter at hand... I think persisting on using those terms makes someone look like they cannot argue very well. This will eventually annoy some people, especially if it's recurrent. The problem begins when someone insists on that poor argumentation... It becomes tiring to read, tiring to deal with and that's exactly why some people will insist on it. It is an effortless way of possibly pissing someone off. They know at least one single person will eventually get upset and they'll be very happy about it. The person who got upset may respond or not, if so, maybe with an insult, maybe with another blanket term or maybe with a wall of text (which isn't something bad per se, it's better to defend yourself with actual arguments than to waste time going "lul ur mom "), although it can get tiring as well. So back to the idea of those terms being insults: I don't think these are anywhere as close as calling someone a "f*ck", an "idiot" or a "piece of sh*t" etc. Though it is in one way painting a picture of someone else that may or may not be true and I don't consider it proper arguing. Which some will definitely not take very well and thus the potential perception of an insult. But then again, it's just my opinion. I'm not the ruler of all rights and wrongs. PS: I am not siding with anyone in specific or taking a jab at anyone or anything similar. PS2: I'm bored and I love to roleplay as a stupid ass lawyer who acts like he knows a lot. Though I'm confident I didn't just write a bunch of garbage. PS3: Word reuse salad. Also, the highlights are there for a reason. I'm trying to not make things binary and to put emphasis.10 points -

Of course we can’t talk about gameplay yet because nothing’s been shown, but that’s why I feel it’s petty to be disregarding the games as “cash grabs” just because some people have an obsessive hard on to making references to Fortnite and The Sims before we’ve seen arguably the most important aspects of them. If you think the characters look like sh*t that’s your prerogative. I don’t think the 3D era character models in general were ever pleasing on the eye anyway even when they were new as most of them look like low res, blocky action figures if I’m being brutally honest, but they’re usually accompanied by exceptional voice acting so it’s never been an issue to me. Anyway I disagree about the graphics. Everything I saw atleast to me look amazing and just makes me want to play these games even more on my PS5. The great thing is we only saw a very tiny amount so way more to come.9 points -

First of all, don't know if you know but like I was saying, PS2 version is truthfully emulated both on PS4 as well as on PS5. With upscaled resolution and no blur at all - where blur is mostly evident on PS2 due to lower quality cables producing weaker image quality in general. There's more to that original vision Rockstar once had, than simply 'orange haze', orange glow. Moreover, it's not only SA related, but when that " original artistic expression " specific for Playstation 2 is being mentioned, all 3 games are considered. So, various other buffer effects, lighting, reflections as well as color filters, are being undoubtedly credited for that recognizable and iconic tone and atmoshepere present in all 3 f*cking games. Not only it's sad that Playstation 2 - the weakest platform for all 3 - can produce such unique visual features, but it is downright obvious that everything after that version was more or less a f*cking stripped down port with missing features when it comes to visuals. This particular DE sh*t, as the last entry, takes everything away while adding type of visuals totally uncharacteristic for those types of games, depriving them of their original essence and style, so much so that they appear to look as games set in 2019. I don't know, but for me, that's enough of a reason not to even touch them. Their time setting is built in in to their essence and seeing all those visual features that greatly contributed to that particular feeling now gone, are taking away my will to experience them at all, at the same time. Back to the orange glow; not only it has some kind of an artistic value - at least for me, it's completely understandable it doesn't have to be the same with you - and not only does it perfectly represents the idea of the smog polluted city faithfully, ultimatelly and as it turned out; it was fantastic behind making the LS, as well as the rest of the map itself, quite larger, especially since the orange one was characteristic for LS only. Really nice distinction from the rest of the places on the map. In any case, not sure why such iconic thing is mocked around the net, especially I don't know why they have excluded those lighting and filtering effects responsible for making it like that - chatacteristically orange - and I don't give a f*ck, but the " draw distance fog " itself, is everpresent on every platform and every 3DU game ever since the PS2 versions and as such, it is barely better - or should we say - there's barely less of it on all newer platforms and hence your argument for " ps2 is weak hence the glow " doesn't prove anything. Quite the contrary. It's still there, only it's not orange anymore. And there's a tiny bit less of it, that's all.8 points -

Personally I still feel RT on current GPU's is a bit early, the goal has shifted now and people want 4k (or higher) and more and more are especially interested in higher FPS gaming (120Hz on TV's, 144/165+Hz on PC), so the performance tank RT carries is still a massive hit in either of those departments. Just look at the huge boost in RT performance going from the RTX2000 series to the RTX3000 series, if the RTX4000 series is just as big a jump, or even bigger, then it'll start to feel like games can keep at 4k/60 WITH some form of RT, whether it be small things like Shadows and AO as standard or even up to a baseline level of Reflections as standard. Once it gets to that point without the need to upscale you'll get more and more embracing it instead of having the market split between Graphics and Performance.7 points -

1. my own experience as a developer tells me that this level of retooling would take a long time, even for a solidly sized team 2. pretty sure the GSG community manger confirmed they've been working on it for the last 2 years there is a fair amount of valid criticism, the one i agree with most being that the skin materials are a little janky. it's still not a reason to bash every facet of this and brush off what is obviously a very complex and large project as a 'cash grab'.7 points -

@Journey_95 makes valid points, though, but I see the other side as well. The thing is, I think what you and the other Trilogy DE proponents are trying to say is that its okay to criticize this new iteration, and you're not even demanding people take all criticisms to the various Whinge & Bitch threads. So where I see your side is that the mods here are not even even asking people like me, who have a ton of criticisms, not to post here. Use me as an example. I have criticized this Trilogy iteration with pretty much every post where I discussed it, and for a myriad of reasons. Yet, NOT ONE of the DE supporters has given me anything close to a hard time. Why? Because I am not dominating every single change of topic in this thread with vitriol and anger. I have my criticisms, both of the game and Take2, and have stated on a lot more than one occasion why I won't be buying it. But then I drop it. I don't try and argue everyone out of their own anticipation and joy for a Trilogy version that they have been waiting for years to come. I sometimes wonder if people who attack the tastes and likes of others realize what a wet blanket they are, in being the guy who tells the 9 year old kid there is no Santa Claus? Not that DE is a fictitious character, lol that's just a metaphor. The point is that I am secure enough in my ideas, my likes & dislikes, as well as my tastes so that I don't need to ruin the fun of others who this DE may, in fact, be everything they have ever wanted from a remake. So why ruin your good time with my incessant whinging? Where I agree with Journey, however, is in the weird dynamic of this forum. As a huge fan of V, I have fought with, argued with, and debated with all the V hating IV fans enough to know he is 100% right in his analysis of the energy and vibe of the V forum on this site. To this day, I never understood why people who are not a fan of a particular game need to hang out in the forum of that game and spend years bashing it, sometimes even going to some great lengths to seem like they aren't bashing, but only being objective. It's why I NEVER spent time in the IV forums to express my extreme displeasure with that game. Why the hell should I want to go into a IV forum and try to ruin the game for people who really like it, simply because I want them to hate it, too. lol Still, it's forums. This sh*t was social media before social media was social media. So from that standpoint, I think I get it.7 points -

There are some interesting changes happening in the background suggesting possible changes/updates to the landing page aka loading screen. According to @alloc8or, these new elements aren't currently utilized by the game. One of these elements appeared just recently within RDR2's game services. Either these changes are for the next update or E&E. It's not out of the realm of possibility that the next update might contain changes preparing for E&E. Especially, since the Tuners update introduced new game services for Character Transfer to prepare for E&E. Rockstar might change the intro logo too. Maybe to what they tweeted before ...7 points -

Who wouldn't want something like that? Just make it fast in the water and let it glide in the air like oppressor mk1 Great answer for all of those people who always said "they will never do a Naval dlc cause boats are slow and boring". And now after Cayo Perico, no one can ever argue again that "they simply can't add a new island...". So here's my pitch: Reuse some assets from Cayo Perico and let us buy a tiny private island. Let players pick one of 3-5 different shapes (that way all the other variants of the island can be used for new missions) Features: - Small mansion - Your own security team (like the mansion security you had in Vice City). Let us hire different npcs to keep the place safe. Let us pick different outfit themes (hawaiian shirts/suits/mercs/halloween/xmas etc) - Hangar for aircrafts - Dock for your boats and amphibious vehicles - Spawn points for your yacht and submarine - Minigames for you and your friends (arcades, pool tables, bowling, mini golf, go kart / rc car race track) - Custom Yachts with new features Missions in Los Santos: - Basically I/E part 2 but for aircrafts, boats and other vehicles. Steal the vehicle->deliver it to your private island->customize it->sell it for profit (doing so could also unlock new custom versions of old aircrafts like Buzzard, Cargobob, SeaSparrow, Havok etc.) Missions on the open sea: - "Headhunt" where you destroy small military ships, planes, and other similar targets - "Piracy Prevention" where other players have to attack your island (+ a similar mission but with NPCs instead of players, Island Survival) - Stealing stuff from small islands, crashed ships, aircraft carriers, cargo ships, cruise ships, oil rigs etc) Not to mention they could add a lot of other cool stuff. Like new amphibious vehicles, new CEO vehicles, "sea terrorbyte", shooting underwater, shark hunting, ability to spawn boats and amphibious vehicles right next to you etc7 points -
