I am literally went insane. Probably one of the dumbest thing i have did, but:

the more details that come out, the more it's abundantly clear that they put a lot of effort into this. it's not lazy, the only seriously disappointing aspect are the character models and i'm sure a lot of what we see are from earlier builds, my expectations grow again by the day the more I see.

The issue is more than when a certain ideology holds undue sway over culture, and their nature is to form hate mobs and demand censorship of anything they dislike, and they demand people have their careers and lives be destroyed for depicting things they don't like, it creates what's called a chilling effect. People, even if not totally in line with the ideology, will self censor out of fear of being misconstrued or accused of being unwoke. Self censorship as a result of a repressive cultural climate is as odious as it gets. Something isn't voluntary if you're coerced and threatened with consequences if you disobey. Any tyrant could claim compliance with their oppression is voluntary. I never made any claims about the people working on the game to begin with anyway, because I don't know them and what they're about. But yes I would say it's equally an issue if ideologues of a certain bent take control of a company and begin censoring and warping classic iconic works of art they in no way shape or form had a hand in creating. If Rockstar had become filled with crazy evangelical righties 15 years ago and GTA games had been censored to fit christian ideology, no one would have questioned that it boded poorly for the series. Just because something is voluntary doesn't mean the people doing it and the ideas they abide by are good or reasonable. The other problem here is that Phil's shirt is a non issue to begin with. Phil Cassidy, the fictional character, likes the confederate flag and probably has a bumper sticker that says 'heritage not hate'. That in no way means anyone at Rockstar likes the flag or endorses the ideas behind it. It means they wanted to present and explore a kind of character and a kind of idea, and they've done it a number of times with the confederate flag, always satirical, always mocking. The idea that you can't represent these things at all, even to satirize them, even to explore them in a narrative, is an idea that is rotten to the core. If you truly abhor an idea, discussing it and understanding it is important. Making fun of it to rob it of power is important. This is zealous erasure of opposing symbols regardless of context. This is literally what ISIS does when they capture a province. They raid the temples and museums and destroy every work of art that in any way contradicts their specific orthodoxy. It's not defensible behavior. Long time fans of the series have every right to be concerned with what is being done to these games they love. That's pretty much my complete view of the issue.

Grove Street games seems quite a woke organisation, I'm sure some of the offensive things in the original games will be replaced by more... appropriate things! That'll make the games more suitable for everyone to enjoy. I mean I'm sure murdering a whole nightclub with a chainsaw is more appropriate than some nutjob wearing a confederate flag t-shirt.

The fact that this is being done by Grove Street Games doesn’t bother me as much as I thought it would, after all their gta 3 and vice city mobile ports were pretty damn good and they also worked on the bully anniversary edition, again, another solid port to mobile, and if I’m remembering correctly, didn’t they also do the max payne port? All of this is leading me to believe that for whatever reason, R* or T2 must’ve made them rush the mobile port of San Andreas out, let’s not forget that it came out in 2013, 9 years after the initial release instead of the usual 10. Maybe it was scheduled for sometime in 2014 but whatever they had done at the time is what we got, it’s the only explanation as to why their other ports were either at least decent or very good, yet the San Andreas one was so terrible, I still have faith that they could do something genuinely good with this, let’s hope anyway.

This is pretty much the same argument that took place when Playground Games banned the same flag in Forza Horizon 4 and stopped plenty of people having the General Lee design on the Dodge Charger (which is the only ever purpose I seen it being used for, to replicate an iconic car that many people grew up watching) While I don't advocate insulting people when you have a perfectly decent opinion anyway I found when this argument took place on the Forza forums that the people supporting it + deeming it necessary were so unreasonable with anyone who disagreed regardless of how well their reasons were put across that trying to be civil with them was pointless. There is no need to go on a tirade of insults at someone over it but all the same topics like this always reach a point where it becomes clear you're banging your head against a brick wall trying to have any rational discussion with the type of people supporting it. Vice City + Phil's shirt have been with us for 19 years, if it was a ticking timebomb for controversy/outrage wouldn't it have gone off long before now? Instead they've gone and pushed the detonator themselves.

Like the end result or not, you can't deny it's not just throwing shaders at the game. Every building has been redone, that alone dwarves any mod tbh.

They did suggest "and unforgettable music." on the Newswire, so I'm hoping a lot of it returns, plus some extra would be cool.

It's not just about flag, it's uncertainty what else they could also censor or change in a way that it'll loose authenticity regarding the time period, surrounding, specific culture or characters themselves. What if it's suddenly offensive that groove street or other gangs call eachother N word for example. They probably can't record new lines, but they can cut the audio with those words. That's just one example.

Man I'm impressed by all these little details that are popping out.

Just watched Joshimuz reaction to the DE. Honestly i expected some better arguments from a hardcore GTA Player like him. All he did was making baseless assumptions, like the Frame rates would still glitch out or everything would be just a sh*tty mod even though we haven't seen the final product yet. Im tired of this whole ''its just a mod'' argument. Try playing a fully modded GTA SanAndreas without having Game crashes every 5 minutes or terrible performance issues.

But I do like it here and a lot of other people like it too. I met some of my best friends here and I had hours upon hours of fun. It's just that we(the users) prefer not to have bias shown against individual opinions. Users getting banned and threads getting deleted for having different views and opinions to staff is not a good thing for a forum. I understand that moderation should be applied for malicious and illegal content but having trigger happy staff for anything they personally dislike is just silly.

That and Grove Street Games isn't the only developer behind this project. Who's to say that Grove St did the character models and not Rockstar? Or it's likely a collaboration between both. If more than one studio is involved in the development process, why should Grove St be the one addressing public feedback?

I'm not too worried about characters models and censorship, just wait for modders to fix it like always, but now i'm really worried about gta 6, if they have censored a game from 20 years ago, what will they do with gta 6.....

Or just remove all the water from Vice City.
