  2. Grove Street Games only have made/ported mobile games so far, that's probably what adapted means. Their inclusion does not mean that R* Dundee didn't develop it necessarily because they're a part of Rockstar Games, the first developer credited... Even if GSG are contributing to the main versions, or even if they did develop them, the old ports were direct ports to consoles and the games were targetted for mobile. They released first on mobile and then on consoles. This is backwards. It's a console/PC game on a new engine and only then in 2022 it's coming to mobile. Completely different scopes. Reserve judgement.

20 years of Grand Theft Auto III - Happy birthday GTA III

October 22nd, 2021 is here! Happy birthday to GTA III, the one that started it all for many people, and it's how our very own GTAForums took off in 2001 Share your best moments, including pre-release hype, things you remember from 20 (or less) years ago, screens/videos or just come for a slice of cake!

  4. It's frustrating, I'm not seeing anything here that they could've done without suing people, for f*ck sake they could've worked with us! So to see this mess after all the hype and then see the mods here praise it like it's the second coming of Christ feels like a f*cking shambles and then you've got @Spider-Vice on his high horse speaking down to anyone being negative "oh it's just a minority, nobody cares about them", man, f*ck you and take Rockstar's dick out your mouth you side eyeing bitch, you've done nothing to support the our side and don't forget the actions you've done earlier this year when you decided to unfollow and try and hide any links GTANet had with the modding community over fears it would upset Rockstar. Pathetic.

  8. Yeah how dare one of us be angry about this lackluster release after a load of us were sued and currently fighting a legal battle. Because one person shown anger I guess we all deserve it in the end huh? How dare I insult the person who helped damage the community and wanted to hide any mention of the modding community over fears of upsetting Rockstar earlier this year.

  9. Okay, now that things have simmered down a little on the news side, my proper thoughts: Like: The lighting is as impressive as I expected it to be. Proper casted shadows and lights on vegetation, vehicles, buildings, etc. This looks great and it was fully expected. Vehicle models look reworked which is really nice to see and deserved, I wonder if they changed the handling in any way. Buildings weren't fully retouched as expected but they touched them up more than I originally expected, the façades in the 3 games look more 3D, and it looks like we even have that cool fake interior effect some games employ. 60 FPS is obviously extremely welcome and necessary, and it looks like they did rework some animations and cutscenes to be able to support that better. There seem to be added props, especially in cutscenes, and the props themselves look remastered along with vegetation. Extremely needed as the old ones were basically 2D sprites. Like less (can't say dislike, I don't DISLIKE it): Character models look a little odd, especially player characters. I don't know if it's a shaders thing or the models, most look okay, but I think Tommy is the one that looks the most jarring. I don't dislike either of them but it looks quite different. Will definitely get used to it. The colours/skybox in some of the timecycles - that San Andreas boat screenshot looks a little weird. It's not a dealbreaker but I feel like that specific type of weather could be touched up a bit more, it's a bit too artificially orange, with the clouds in there. TL;DR: I'm pretty damn excited, this is a remaster as expected and not any kind of remake, not sure why anyone expected that. I'd even say some things were remade, regardless of what you think about them. I can't wait to play this and will definitely buy it, the things I like less don't put me off playing it, but I think they could be very much improved. The screenshots and trailer in general look bloody great, the games were needing a facelift. The originals were already cartoony by nature, I wonder what would've happened if GTA3 released the way it looked in the old screenshots... I'm really curious to see all the advertised features too such as weapon and radio wheels, waypoints, etc. For the folks wanting to shove their "objective" "it's sh*t" opinions down everyone's throats, you can think that, but you don't need to spam it constantly just because others are excited. It's clear most people like this, and if you don't, you're entitled to, but there is no need to fight about it, or troll others about it. Don't force either negative or positive opinions. If you want to full-on whine, we have a B&M topic for you.

20 years of Grand Theft Auto III - Happy birthday GTA III

Happy 20th anniversary to my favorite GTA! The one that started it all for me. Even after all these years I still find ways to have fun when I play it, it just never gets old. GTA III is one of those games that I will forever hold dear simply because of how big of an impact it has left on me when I first played it. It's quite crazy to think this game is now 20 years old. I did this in my spare time a few months ago in order to celebrate, only to add the red logo of the Definitive Edition as a last minute change. It's nothing much but I'm quite pleased with the result:

Do people think we're mad because a pixel flag was removed? No. It's not about the flag itself. It's what its removal represents. No matter how many times today's entertainment industry tries to twist the past, people like Phil existed and will continue to exist. GTA Vice City is supposed to represent the culture of those times. Removing the flag means removing an accurate part of past culture (wrong or right) just to twist reality.

  20. Ok heres the deal; I think that War Drum has overall gotten the short end of the stick. Their GTA 3 and VC mobile ports were fine aside from things like audio quality, and it seems like the one thing people sh*t on them for is the SA remaster, which I have a personal theory is more because of R* than War Drum. What most likely happened is that they gave them a very short development time for SA, and because the game is much bigger and much different than 3 and VC, they struggled. R*, not caring, decided to release whatever they had done anyways. This is a very common story in the world of game development. I'm under the belief that one objectively bad product should not taint a whole companies reputation, and that rule applies to here, so I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt. We don't know what was going on behind the scenes with that game. Some of those character models do look REALLY bad though...

  23. A massive happy anniversary to GTA3, the game that propelled R* to massive fame, brought a lot of us here, and brought this forum to existence! Spent way too much time screwing around in it - didn't beat it as many times as I did SA, but it was one of the greatest sandboxes I have ever played. Hopefully tomorrow we get some juicy news about the future version of the game as well. Good to be with y'all here over the years, even when it gets tense.

  24. Ok, I'll be calm but I am being honest though, I'm disappointed in this and in all honesty anyone praising it is on some hype drug. These could've been soo much better and it's a shame Rockstar and Take-Two aren't like Valve, etc, as a lot of people in this community would've loved to help out. Plus it's War Drum again, they were already caught using mod tools last time.

  26. Some scummy moves from R in the trailer: In the first seconds you can see the comparision in the desert. The reason why classic looks so washed out and the draw distance is so low because they set the games weather to sandstorm while in DE its sunset (or sunrise?) In the VC ocean drive scene they used the LOD models of the buildings from the classic version: ACTUAL GAME: Edit: need to clarify that I bumped the draw distance so you can see the distant models)

Yo I actually think looks pretty much how I imagined it. The OG games were a lot more cartoony visually than more people like to remember or admit. This just seems like a straight upgrade. The only thing that weirds me out is that GTA 3 is a bit more colorful than it should be, but I'm not opposed to the slight change. I dig the vibe here.

  30. Come on people, staff here are fans too, their time here is voluntary, we have nothing to do with how these remasters look and play no part in their corporate actions against modding. We are here for the ANNOUNCEMENT, the information, trailer, etc. Dissect it and disagree as much as you like. This scapegoating of staff is once again ridiculous however, insulting each other is not the answer and will be dealt with if it continues.

GTA III Definitive Edition Analysis & Comparisons Topic

Just been looking at this in the 4K trailer (was going to upload screens, but I suppose that's unnecessary) Anyway, I think this is the best comparison that summarizes my feeling on it. They brightened up the image and just saturated the game. Everything else is pretty much there. Details, hair, the same level of detail on the clothes. It just looks... jarring because now it's a lot brighter and more colourful. To see if my thought process was about right, I edited the screenshot to look more like the original (Although not perfect, as I'm no expert)

  39. How the tables have turned. All the Rockstar fanboys that screamed that "it won't be a mobile port, you're just trolls" now move goals saying that "they are responsible for the MOBILE port only"... even though they also were responsible for the PS3/360 ports of said game. Not to mention the mobile port isn't even listed with the other versions, when they could just easily make buttons for them that say "Coming Soon", just like for the Switch version currently. Speaking of that, it technically IS a mobile device, with touchscreen and all. Those 45gb of storage better include pristine audio quality, ACTUAL high quality textures that aren't upscales, and other actual improvements, since that's probably why they took down re3/vc. Also, where's the trailer or pictures? Who in their right mind would drop $60 for something nobody knows how it looks? The damn thing comes out in less than 3 weeks and typical of R* there is no information of what it has. Probably because there is barely anything different. EDIT: The Microsoft page also has them credited, though only in the description.
