A Message from Roger Clark to the GTAForums Community!

Our favourite boah has a message for everyone here on GTAForums, from the most passionate speculators, to the web sleuths who discovered every single actor before the game was even released, and in some cases before it was announced! Looking at you @Neudd & company! Enjoy and thanks @Kirsty for getting this for all of us, and obviously thanks to Roger for the awesome shout out! Look back to the RDR2 Rumour Mill topic with a summary of findings!

  4. Some people expect to see cut content, new weapons, new vehicles, new missions. But even if we won't get any of that, they probably gonna add some new outfits, right? Seems like the easiest improvement. Claude had couple different concepts: And Tommy could get some sunglasses, new Hawaiian shirts, suits etc

  6. Reverse Hot Take: People falsely think the PS2 colours is just a Yellow/Orange filter. The Orange/Yellow is only attributed to Los Santos, other map regions have their own warmer yet coloured tones, San Fierro has blue hues, the countryside has teals and greens, etc. It's just the filter is at its strongest during the Dusk of Los Santos so people just seem to think that's all the filter does.

  7. For those who have no idea who Alloc8or even is, he is a very prominent member of the Rockstar modding community. Alloc8or contributes a lot of his time to researching Red Dead Redemption 2, GTAV and many other RAGE titles for the modding community. His documentation on the games can vary from game natives to all sorts of other stuff, he's not a random person and has been part of the modding community for literal years. I consider him to be one of the most knowledgeable and talented people in the modding community. Please stop doubting his findings, thanks.

GTA Trilogy: The Definitive Edition Officially Announced - Coming Soon

Nah, f*ck y'all. RDR2 came out in 2018 and is literally a masterpiece, no game can come closer to what it has achieved. Comparing R* to the likes of Ubisoft, Activision, DICE, etc is blasphemy. They are still greedy though.

  15. I think the biggest thing GTA3 needs is dive out of the car, honestly. I think newer fans will really struggle with some stuff if they can't bail. I'm assuming we're at least getting that with the mentioned "GTAV style controls". I fully expect the core game things to be changed in 3 though: - Dive out of the car - Auto Save after mission - Mission Replay feature - GTA V Style aiming, targetting and weapon switching. - Ammunation changed to be a universal style thing not the old laying on the ground style. - Pay N' Spray to allow color choice. (wishful thinking honestly, even SA didn't do this without mod garages) - Phone Call missions fixed (these would repeat later in the game) - Leone Mafia Family to no longer carry shotguns in Saint Marks (post Farewell Salvatore is a death sentence in Saint Marks) - Waka Gashira Wipeout goons to still have Uzi's instead of the M16/AK47's they did on PS2. (PC nerf to these gang members, this mission destroyed your car on PS2) - Replay bug on PC to be fixed for Firefighter. - Hobo Duplication glitch in the Portland Tunnel to be fixed for security reasons. - Ghost Town nowhere to be found, hidden away from in-game state. - GPS way points - A map when you hit pause with a full legend.

GTA Trilogy: The Definitive Edition Officially Announced - Coming Soon

I really don't think they're going to be remaking the whole map or anything and that's one thing I think, IMO, that people need to temper their expectations about. I fully believe they're going to redo vegetation because a whole new renderer/lighting system/etc won't work with the ugly low res/2D vegetation, and some props might be changed too, but expecting the whole map to be remade is kinda eh. I think they'll be tweaking the terrain so it's not super blocky, especially in GTA3, but I can't see them going building by building remaking everything, maybe some select things. Some renders posted a few pages back I think by @BS_BlackScout kinda show how a lot of the original building models still survive modern rendering techniques. Normal/bump maps and stuff, I can see that happening, but don't go expecting full remakes of everything just because it's on a different engine. Things can be ported. One of the things I think might be more changed is vehicles for example. Not expecting GTAV-quality vehicles or GTAO vehicles in the trilogy, but probably higher quality than the originals, and I can see handling enhancements too.

  24. I have joined this forum literally to post on this thread. I'm 32 years old - GTA 3 was released when I was 12 years old and it absolutely blew my mind. Prior to this games release, I was more in to C&C series, Civilisation and a bunch of N64 games. This was totally different gravy. I am extremely nostalgic, I collect old games consoles, football strips, Pokemon cards... I have a room in my house which is basically the 90s when you walk in. So these remakes, to someone like me, is huge. I recently just completed the trilogy again on PS4 (first time I'd played them in a decade or so) and I still get a unique sense of enjoyment that I just can't replicate with the HD-era games. Sure, GTA 5 is superior to the 3D games in absolutely every facet imaginable, but they exist in an era saturated by choice, the internet, game patches, paywalls and the rest. Games today are focused solely on the commercials, every decision made in dollars and cents, and it all just feels a little hollow to me versus the classics. I really hope Rockstar don't screw this up. No - I'm not expecting the remasters to be upscaled to full GTA5 graphics, new missions etc. But I will be majorly pissed if what we've heard so far is true, in that graphical enhancements will be limited to textures, some good music tracks will be missing, and nothing new in the way of vehicles etc will be added. IF thats the case - I don't care about sh*tty achievements being added - I'll definitely be sticking to my PS2. Oh, and give us a trailer FFS

  31. Regardless of Grove Street Games' involvement, this has been in development for ages AND with R* itself, not just blindly outsourced to them to be completed in months like GTA SA original mobile, which wasn't even Unreal, it was a direct port, so given they've made other good mobile ports, I'd give them a chance if they really did work on those too. It doesn't mean they made the whole DE at all lol. They must have what, 20 employees? Also, again, phones aren't what they were in 2013. And this DE is on Unreal, so... Very different beasts.

This is my 10,000th post in GTA Forums, it took a couple months shy of 10 years to reach this milestone. Thank you everyone for keeping this place interesting to hang around in all those years, here's to all the friends we've made along the way & to this magnificent beast of a franchise that glued all together in this wild ride. To pull a page out of Mr @fw3's playbook, here's a postcard from the Mister Los Santos 2018 during my visit to the Rub' al Khali desert near the Saudi-Emirati boarders. Cheers, everyone.

The problem with modders is that they don't give a f*ck about the original art style, so everything looks like sh*t.

GTA Trilogy: The Definitive Edition Officially Announced - Coming Soon

Ok, I worked with Unreal for a few years and here's my take on the screenshot: What you see there was made with Unreal (no sh*t). It also appears that the author used Megascans props and materials. They might have even used quixel mixer because the cracks on the asphalt seem to me like more than one materials mixed together (I'd really like to talk to the author). The "PS2" effect and the whole overall lighting seems to use the default Unreal lighting with a post processing cube on the scene. What has been achieved here, if knowing how to use Unreal, is VERY simple, and can be done in an afternoon. If someone share the GTA SA props with me, I might try to reproduce it. Now, the question is not if the trilogy could look this good, because well... it 100% can, and yes, the entire map of all the three games could very easily be redone for unreal. The real question is: Do they think that's the best approach? Is that what they want to achieve? Is that desirable? There are a lot of things to consider when working on a remake/remaster, and the hardest part is not the looks, but the code itself. Now MY opinion. The remakster can 100% look like that screenshot in the timeframe they've been working on, it's not technically hard. What makes me think it might NOT look like that is the "classic look and feel.". They may have chosen to go more with a "ps2-ish" look to it. that's my 2 cents on the whole screenshot thing.

  37. It's so tiresome seeing these kind of videos constantly being posted around here. Might as well ask Rockstar to just do a full on remake of the 3D era games if that's all it'll take to please people posting this type of content. Every page has at least 1 or 2 videos of a awful looking "4K realistic raytracing" mod being applied to a 3D era game and it almost always looks bad too. Reminds of the one guy who said he hoped this trilogy would look like RDR2 or something, lmfao man...

  39. If they are, reminder they ONLY make mobile games though (according to their portfolio). It could be the 2022 ports. Despite GTA SA being bad, their other R* ports were OK and Ark runs ok on mobile too.

  41. But see, R* have tools programmers and stuff that can handle exactly those workflows (conversions/porting/parsing things), they can very well come up with ways to port the content from the originals into Unreal, or perhaps the artists even have access to the original stuff and export it directly into UE. This might be in development for 2 years, but a complete remake of these games I reckon would take a lot longer. Certain things in game development just take a lot of time, and graphics programming is one of them, given they're changing it up, and who knows what other things they might be changing in terms of AI and what not, which also takes time. This doesn't mean it'll look exactly like the original games, they simply don't need to necessarily remake everything from the ground up for it to look better. As I said I do think terrain will be tweaked so it's not a 3 polygon mountain like the ones in GTA3, but I can't see buildings fully remade. We'll see, hopefully soon(tm). We also don't know if the game will be 100% Unreal, there is a big chance the mission scripts will be the original ones for example, among other minor things. There's quite a few "modular" Unreal games out there, Halo MCC (which Ruffian helped with) included. Speaking of compression, looks like they'll be using Oodle, from the disclaimer that was found, so looks like everything will be neatly packed.
