What's wrong with the lobbies?
StyxTx and 10 others reacted to Jason for a topic
"Might as well play offline if you don't want to play with others" I'd sympathise with this point of view if literally every role was designed around group play first and solo play second. Bounty Hunter is the most co-op friendly but is only really that by the nature of it's gameplay loop and while Collector just about works in a posse it can bug out now and then, but Moonshiner, Trader and Naturalist all have their downsides when doing co-op such as diminished rewards, greatly diminished in some cases. GTAO's various businesses are no different. Relying on the other players to provide the difficulty when doing role activities in a game that has actively tried to diminish the influence other players can have on your activities and spent half a year building a foundation to limit how much players can mess with you before they started releasing free roam based content is a case of a 2+2 = 5. It's two styles of game design tied together with a very ragged and worn piece of rope. This is all conveniently ignoring that session quality, ie various role activities, free roam events and gang hideouts, takes an absolute nose dive when the session count goes up. Or that RDO when it was announced was promoted as an experience that was intended for solo players as well.11 points -

StyxTx and 9 others reacted to Beatrice for a topic
Was about to post a similar point but Jason came in and said most of it before me. Collector has nothing to do with PvP or Co-Op. ~90% of Stranger missions have nothing to do with PvP, and Co-Op is mostly there as an added bonus, not as the main way for that content to be played (think like phantoms in Souls games). Naturalist, the freshest content, has absolutely nothing to do with PvP or Co-Op. Trader has some Co-Op friendly moments, and a PvP scenario for sales only. Bounty-Hunter has good Co-Op potential, but again, it exists only as an added bonus, not designed around it. Moonshiner has little to no Co-Op/PvP potential, mostly goofing around in the bar. All other free roam content is intended for one person riding around to encounter it; you being pre-occupied with co-op activities or pvp activities not only doesn't do well with that content, it is completely distracting from each other. You encountering some random event or a hideout doesn't really fit into the flow of the game when you're supposedly busy PvP'ing or co-oping, for instance. So yeah, let's be very clear and plain about it: RDO, just like GTA:O, have some co-op and pvp settings; those settings exist as special modes. Co-op story missions, and separate pvp modes. 95% of the freeroam content is not designed around pvp/co-op. The only thing that is directly designed around it - sales (both the co-op part and the pvp part) - are designed extremely poorly, in a very asymmetric way, favoring mostly senseless griefing and not something that is equal to the time efficiency of the seller's side. Everything else is griefing, griefing and griefing again. There is no 'pvp' in free-roam; just like in World of Warcraft, where anyone who mentions the term 'world pvp' with a straight face is the laughing stock of everyone else for more than a decade. Any multiplayer content is only meaningful when all parties involved willingly opt in to participate in that content; telling someone doing quests in world of warcraft to go back to warcraft 3 is a sure sign of severe mental retardation; telling some level 120 rogue who one-shots lvl37 players in leveling zones from invisibility to go and play on arena and battlegrounds is absolutely justified. Just because a game is 'online' doesn't mean that it's designed for some moron looking for a way to let off the steam from his inability to give a proper answer to the kid bullying him at school or his boss shouting at him at work by coming to that 'online game' and engaging in 'player interaction' with people who aren't not just willing but in most cases able to respond to those 'world pvp scenarios' (being shot in the head while in some animation, anyone?). It amazes me that there are people who still unironically consider RDO/GTAO to be some sort of shooter/pvp game like fortnite. Wake up, people, these two games are pretty much Sims. It's about collecting stuff, working on various hobbies, riding on cars and horses, fitting your character out in fancy clothers, and so on. With the added option of selling weapons, drugs, hides and antlers. Oh, there are also some mini-games. Like fishing, for instance. There's also another mini-game in these games, but it's even more minor than fishing, and it's also implemented very poorly - shooting. It is occasionally used in other activities, but is pretty much not even as meaningful as mashing buttons and sticks while fishing.10 points -

StyxTx and 9 others reacted to ALifeOfMisery for a topic
It's a shame because lobby options could all but eradicate* these types of discussions and threads. *There will always be those players who use "interaction" as cover for "easy free roam kills". The friction always arises because the PvE based players don't need anyone else to make the game fun for them and that their PvE play style doesn't directly affect anyone. Where as those wanting free roam PvP require the presence of other players as they are incapable of making their own fun and their play style does directly affect other players, whether those other players are willing participants or not. It's always going to be a contentious subject, and nothing game related should ever be off limits, but there are reasons that these threads have a short shelf life. One reason is that the opposing sides in this argument will never see eye to eye when it comes to this issue. But another main reason, and most members who have been around the online sections since around 2016 will probably be aware, since the introduction of crates in GTAO there has been a prevalent lean towards a PvE sentiment on the forum, those members who stick around tend to hold that viewpoint. I'm not saying anyone is right or wrong, but it is the case that whenever these types of threads pop up there will likely be far more members posting in favour of PvE and solo play styles and no one's mind is going to be changed.10 points -

You can still get the liveries back through merge glitching. Others have already mentioned that this glitch goes back to the original Heists DLC, but I would also like to add that you can in fact play heist finales without doing preps legit -- that is by joining one. So that's what complicates punishing people for doing this glitch. People who do a heist finale replay glitch multiple times a day might be in danger, but anyone who does it at a rate of like once a day, I think should be fine -- assuming Rockstar even intends on punishing people for it, which they haven't done yet in years. Yeah, it is pretty weary as a non-grinder to be around grinders, whether that is legit ones or heist glitchers, which I consider also a grind. (In fact if you save up crates for a x2 event, that grind pays about 1/3rd the rate of the Bogdan glitch. Still significantly less of course, but not that much considering one is playing legit and the other is an exploit.) Me having grinded a lot of money is one part of the equation, but the other is that I don't actually buy that much stuff in the game; for example I've never bought every or even most cars in a DLC. I may end up only keeping the Club from the current update. (I try pretty much all cars with SP mods though; before I did that I used races and creator mode.) Collecting cars is a major activity in the game, especially for long-term players, and it's about the only thing you constantly need lots of money for. There are so many ways to have fun in the game that don't cost money, but the game has conditioned players to make money first, foremost, and at the expense of fun. A few of my GTA friends go into a session almost every day just to sell their businesses. I know for a fact they don't need the money, but it seems to be the only way they know how to play the game. I purposefully avoid this session nowadays because when I enter it, I'm going to get asked to help sell MC businesses, which I hate and don't even consider worth doing after the duffel bag sale missions got disabled.9 points -
What's wrong with the lobbies?
StyxTx and 8 others reacted to Direwrath for a topic
Usually I can make up enough stuff to keep myself occupied that I never even notice if there are other players around or not, unless they mess with me. I don't join random posses, although I will help a fellow player if they seem like they need it. Other than that I merely greet anyone else I see and move on with my game, so without them there it wouldn't really make much of a difference in the way that I play. I can still play with friends, and as far as it goes with these fresher lobbies there are usually enemies spawning no matter the path you take. I also understand that it can be boring for those who like a rough and tumble fight through the map, and I don't judge anyone for wanting other player competition but it's not my main intention when I play this game. I play online to engage in the Red Dead world with a character that I created myself and to play with friends and family, it's not entirely to play with random strangers. Like @Leftover Pizza said above, if I could play my character offline I would just do that. R* made a huge mistake when they assumed that the two player types would be able to get along with one another. What's worse is that they aren't giving us a good way to communicate our intentions with one another, nor do they give us a way out of the type of game play we do not agree with. With the low pop lobbies working so well, it's obvious that they could give both pve and pvp players the game they are looking for but for some reason they don't want to do it yet. By giving us that choice they would have more eager players engaging in all aspects of the game.9 points -

It's not a cheat, buddy, but a legitimate way of ranking up fast (for noobs or people who have been reset). Because special cargo is 2X this week (until Thursday) you get a lot of RP for collecting and delivering a single crate, plus it's quicker than doing two or three crates. if you have two or more warehouses, there is negligible cooldown and you can alternate between collection and deliveries to your heart's content. Note that this is not the most profitable way of making money, but a technique that you can use to quickly gain RP this week. Right. It's like listening to your favorite music and then someone pulling the plug on your headphones. It's an unwelcome jolt that ruins your immersion.6 points -

So much wasted potential with the ability to turn into animals. Limited both by time & location instead of letting people freely roam around. Would’ve been nice to be able to turn into a bird then fly around & admire the map from above. Could’ve got some weird fun new game modes. Something like predators versus humans & more comical variations of animals versus humans. Like one where you can be a squirrel & try to bite people to death. I thought the handling of peyote plants in GTA 5 online with it being considered “Halloween content” making it only available for a limited time each year what is rockstar handling it terrible. RDR2 made the concept more interesting but the execution worse. Tho both games did not expand on it to make new game modes.6 points -

Totally new player to Red Dead series here and went straight for the online section. Think I've had it for 3 days now? Anyway, since this is a thread about the lobbies, as a new player, I haven't really felt alone despite low numbers. I end up seeing people and almost always just avoid them. One time I actually teamed up for bounties. Only thing that matters for me really is getting a person or two or three for the missions and poker. I don't really enjoy packed servers filled with people doing insane griefing things that ultimately just make me not want to play. I know others adore that gameplay... but ain't for me. Hopefully something is sorted out for the lobbies soon so people can enjoy the game however they like. Solo, Friends, Limited, and Full would be nice options.5 points -

Personally I don’t prefer empty lobbies. But with the current small lobbies, there are a number of benefits: Random free mode events spawn very regularly. In more populated sessions they spawn almost never. Legendary animals spawn in free roam. I can still invite and play with all of my friends, so there are no changes there, other than fewer strangers around in the session, which is generally a positive. This is closer to an invite only session. The only downside to the smaller session sizes is that there’s less of a chance of running into strangers in the game. As someone who plays in defensive mode, and plays with friends as often as I can, that’s not something that really bothers me.5 points -

I think the heist finale glitches are going to get patched and patched hard, resulting in possible punishments when Rockstar figure out how to do so. The amount of focus on these glitches in my own community since the reset is extremely high, and if my friends are constantly discussing how to glitch extra money then it must be the same in most other communities in GTA online. It's not just the Bogdan glitch, but other heist finale glitches too, with the potential to make many millions in an evening by trading off finales with friends. I can't believe that Rockstar are happy about this? How can they be? They've just taken extreme measures to reset people, and we know how important the bottom line is to them, so they must be really concerned about this. There's no point asking people to be sensible about this because when you've had a billion in assets and cash wiped away you probably don't care about being wiped again, but it does have an effect on the wider community: your friends are constantly grinding/glitching and are no longer having fun and GTA online has regressed to the days of repeat Rooftop Rumble or Coveted. OK, you can make so much more in-game cash these days than in 2013, but everything is so much more expensive in return, so we have an endless cycle of never having enough. I want people to be happier with less, but how can they be expected to take a backseat when they're back to noob status after being so harshly admonished Rockstar? Rockstar didn't just punish glitchers, but smashed a whole stack of plates over their heads, so we've got this endless and cyclical battle that will never end. I'm in danger of losing my online friends over time because of the horrible imbalance between their own greed and Rockstar's/T2 even bigger greed in paying out so little for a 100-dollar shark card. I just don't get it any more and am mentally worn out. Why only give GTA 8 million for USD 100? This buys two upgraded OWR cars and a garage, or a static-prop yacht? Big deal! You should be able to buy the game for USD 60 and then purchase an additional shark card or two, which should be enough for a year, and I guarantee that money glitching would be totally irrelevant if high-end shark cards paid out decently. In the meantime, we have this constant squabble between Rockstar and gamers over something as menial as virtual cash, which stops players from having fun because they're on an endless glitch/grind mission. And Rockstar/T2 don't cheat us? Have you ever been blown sky high while doing a delivery because it's the only way of getting in-game cash without forking out real cash for uneconomical shark cards? Try to understand why people cheat instead of being so judgmental.5 points -

Interesting enough, Rockstar added two leftover scripts with this update, one is called "freemode_creator" and the other is called "basic_creator". Both are nullified, the same as the mission creator script. I wonder if those were planned for what was initially the theme of the summer update, or those new random encounters were made with these new creator tools. Except the new encounters are currently handled by the new scripts, unless it's sorta like the encounters were made via such tools and translated into scripts, which is plausible. Regardless, I wonder if those tools would be utilized for the next update, maybe to provide a selection of half-instanced jobs that are playable in free roam. I'm thinking heist preps that function like contact missions, but playable in freemode, yet exposed to any alteration at any time since you load them in via a server-side file. It sounds cool, but kinda feel you have to be far away from the new place for the content to be loaded in successfully, which won't be possible if Rockstar wants to introduce new properties there.4 points -

Hello again! It's page 400, so it's the obligatory page 400 post. No theme this time, just some cars I've seen these past few months (and one I haven't!) that I'm still surprised haven't made an appearance in GTAO. I'm sure the winter update will come jam-packed with interesting and desirable rides, as with these strange times the importance of a fan-favorite update is all the greater. Just hope the hype doesn't overshadow the actual content! Nothing can save a good release from unrealistic expectations, after all. Cars! Got a Nissan, an Edsel, a Mercedes-Benz, a Citroën, and a BMW. Let's get to it. Nissan Pao Imagine my surprise at seeing one of these funny little retro-look JDM things in the American rust belt. Not sure how it managed to find its way here, and I've got to wonder about the economics of owning one in this area, but the heart wants what the heart wants. 1958 Edsel Ranger Well, I don't really know if it was a Ranger or not, but it certainly was an Edsel. Never can forget that face. Summer is prime time for classic rides to hit the road in more temperate climes, but an Edsel is still a rare sight. Even more so in games. Let's change that. Mercedes-Benz Unimog 406 Was ready to do a spit-take when I saw an old Unimog cruising down a city street. Not so rare in Europe, but seeing a beast like these anywhere in the U.S. is very unusual. With Rockstar's propensity for weird off-road vehicles, I'm surprised we don't have one yet. Citroën 2CV No, I haven't had the pleasure of seeing a 2CV in person outside of a museum yet. Not my favorite Citroën, but such an iconic, charming, and once-ubiquitous car like this can't be denied. I take it personally that Citroën has been so neglected in this game. I do. BMW i8 A modern BMW. Like acid in my mouth. But I've come to like Rockstar's take on classic BMWs, and seeing a few of these this year has made me wonder how they'd adapt this design for GTA. Maybe there's a better chance now that production ended?4 points -
