Although this is common sense, this post should be shown to parents. I'm 17, and I am tired of people blaming, in particular, the Grand Theft Auto series for multiple crimes against property, and people. The shooting death of a grandmother by an 8 year old was not caused by the game, but by the hands of a possibly mentally ill child who lives in an otherwise unsupervised home. To be fair, yes, this game is violent, and yes, it doesn't belong in the hands of minors, but in a society where the younger generation is becoming desensitized to shootings and violence as a whole, a video game is not the issue on hand.
I'm not going to continue to talk about how, "I am a perfectly good person and I've played violent games for years" although that is true in my case, but I am going to say this. Do not have a scapegoat for things that happened that could have been prevented. Why, presumably, was a gun left in the open of a minor? Why did that minor have access to a game that he is 10 years too young to play? That's all I have to say about that.
Says a lot about the state of the media when an 8 year old kid is playing with a gun and adult-rated videogame. It's the videogame's fault when he shoots someone with the gun, and him having a gun is not even brought into question.
