If Rockstar decided to cut cost and hire fresh design student. Sure..

... why would they add Colombia when Cuba or the Bahamas are much closer.

These locations have drug trafficking written all over them.  What era, I'm not sure. but we could be looking at a full blown '80s Pablo Escobar type of thing.  It would be a different angle than the Scarface parody that underpinned the classic GTA: Vice City

You might actually be drug running and not just from the receiving end as we have seen before in various GTAs.

Definitely calling BS on this whole leak because I just can't see Rockstar doing South America for a GTA game.

It'd be a nice change of pace but I think the Carribean countries would be more fitting, since they play well with the whole Vice City vibe.

the female protagonist stuff is... meh. and NOT for realism reasons.

I admit that I like GTA to be my little "alpha male theme park... with blackjack and hookers". it's my 1-hour-a-day fantasy escape.

A woman protagonist will be done, expecially in this day and age of "inclusiveness"... but I'm not fond about it.
When is Saints Row 5 released, again?

Colombia is just you know...far.

Cuba and the Bahamas are much closer to Miami.

They could also just create a fictional country that takes elements from all of them. It could be a place where cocaine is made like Colombia, have a fictional dictator running it like the Castros in Cuba and so on.

At this point I don't care if it's real. I'm just hoping that we can create the same feeling around here like we did when V rumors started to pop up. The excitement was real.

Yeah.  It doesn't have to be real. Just a generic South Americanescque drug producing country manifested as a large-ish island South of the first one with a reasonable amount of water between them.

In fact, if the map comprises South Florida including the Everglades, Vice City and the Florida Keys as the American part.   One or two Caribbean type islands in the middle and the South Americanescque Island to the very South.

Huge playing area, which would be a lot of water too. Lots of planes, boats and such.  Loads of options for smuggling.  All of the water based gameplay (swimming, diving, submersibles, sea floor, wrecks, wild life, etc etc) could be carried over from GTA:V.

I'd say there's lots of potential there.

Agree with lots of points here. The leak is likely false but the premise is likely. Vice State and a Rockstar version of South/Central America. I dont see a female protagonist but I do believe Rockstar WOULD return to the 1980s but would do it from a different angle.

Highly doubt in majority of what was presented in this "leak".

80s Miami is a highly unlikely setting for the next game, considering how popular super and sports cars are in GTA Online. R* would tie their hands by turning the clock back, making it impossible to reuse assets from GTA V. They've done good job reusing some vehicles from GTA IV, which both is easier than creating new ones from the scratch, as well as appealing to long term fans who like to see familiar faces, or fascias for that matter. I can't see R* returning to the 80s, not in a high budget game like GTA VI, which must appeal to as many players as possible, be a financial juggernaut. And since GTA Online these days utilizes the lowest common denominators on every step, I'm naturally very skeptical.

When it comes to possible setting, having South America could fix the fundamental problem of Florida, lacking any mountains. Setting should be diverse enough, offering a bit of everything, and I have to say, Los Santos and Blaine County did it well. Appalachian mountains are too far north, so Sierra Madre or Andes could be the perfect solution for the problem. Don't know what about a southern american city or cities, though - if there wasn't anything major down there, it'd end up like it did in GTA V/Online, where people have no real reason to travel north and for the most part stay in LS.

As for female protagonist, I think it's a matter of time when we get one. And frankly, I'd be truly excited for that. GTA Online proven how popular female avatars are and how much potential they have. Using so called arguments like "SJW bullsh*t", "it needs to make sense story-wise" or "I don't see it" is pointless, since there was not only nothing regarding the story in this "leak", but in general, we know absolutely nothing about GTA VI at this point.

The fact of a matter is, it wouldn't really make sense to create a set of female animations exclusively for Online characters. Currently, GTA Online avatars use a mix of animations from story mode's protagonists, and sometimes they look odd. Like sitting, for example.

So I'd say it'd be safer to create a female character, properly animated, and then using her as a template for Online avatars. Since it's unlikely R* won't create a successor for GTA Online, after tons of money it earned so far.

And then, there's my favourite one - we either are going to have multiple protagonists, or not. Who would have thought? I'm going to make my own speculation, then - the next GTA may be called GTA VI... Or not! Checkmate, whatever happens I will be correct, as long as there is another GTA game, that is.

I call this "leak" BS, but few of mentioned things have a real chance to turn out being true once GTA VI is announced. The setting would make sense, seeing the demand for Miami among players ever since GTA IV days, and female protagonist would be a great refreshment that could be used to improve what we've seen in GTA Online. Either way, we're shooting blanks here, it's most likely a fabrication made by someone who knows what our community requests, and what GTA games lacked so far.

South America has some viable cities for a wide open sandbox game. Rio, Sao Paulo, Caracas, Maracaibo, Bogota, Medellin, Lima...they have their favelas and drug wars that would make a gangster or criminal feel right at home.

The main obstacle I see here is the culture gap. GTA has generally been set in America because the USA is the most well known country out there. Everyone knows a thing or two about American culture regardless of which country they actually live in. By contrast, many gamers won't be able to understand the culture presented in Brazil or Colombia. It would be very hard for the franchise to leave the USA. Even going back to Rockstar's roots in the UK, or a border trip to Canada or Mexico will still present its issues.

I can believe it. Multiple countries. Don't forget all those islands in between!

The folks saying they can't wait until 2022? They can as Take Two are enjoying the fruits of GTAO this is why it's different this time. The Housers want to make something epic and have all the time in the world and no pressure for the first time in the series history to get it done.

Due to the scope of this thing I'm going with 4 protags. At least two era's 1980s and present day of which GTAO will have both maps.

If this is true it would make sense for them to add the IV map to GTAO sooner rather than later. 10th anniversary is perfect.

Deadlines have held them back. Not any more. I bet if this project was GTA V it would have had the rest of San Andreas. It's just a shame The Benz isn't with them.

I'd refer to this old discovery of mine. Grand Theft Auto VI? The Mexican? 2018 is probably a reference to the filming date. Any rumors/talks about VI is interesting at this point of time.

Female protaginst, I'm not against about that.

But, the whole news seems fake for me, 2021-2 is way too far, it's literally impossible, and I don't see how they could make the people wait for that long, even with gta online. I mean, for me, it's 2020, if it's after, they're crazy. I hope they understand that RDR is not gta, they won't make the gta community wait by releasing rdr2 online updates.

I hope for a trailer at the end of this year or the next year.

Also, haven't they said that gta was "the united states" ? I don't get the point of going in the south america.

And why is it fake ? : "Game still in early stages of development "

lmao. Like they haven't worked on the game for 5 years, my ass yes. Rockstar north, even if it's not with the full team, have worked on the game since gta 5 launch, that is how it works, rockstar or not, they won't wait 3 years to start a new game.

EDIT : actually, there is often a part of the team that literally works on their future games even if their last game isn't even out ( they do that to prepare the stuff they need, if they have to rebuild the engine, stuff like this ).

if they have cast then I'd imagine announcement pre RDR2 to build the Rockstar hype.  Late 2019/20 release

@killso

It can still be United States, but also have another country - I think they meant it wont be completely outside the US.

I completely agree with you regarding release date. 2022 would be almost ten years after GTA V. Thats insane. Surely 2020 at the latest.

Anyone thinking "2020 or sooner" don't get your hopes up. Rockstars games come out 1-2 years after announcement. Mostly 2 years

I truly want GTA to be based on Las Venturas again. I feel that the map could be improved and expanded, I'd like to see The Strip on its full glory, and seeing how heists were a really good addition to the experience, we could potentially get a casino robbery. It's also been a while since SA.

Regarding the South America thingy, I recall an interview some years ago where Dan Houser said that GTA is America for him, and I think that he refers to the importance of USA culture provididing greater opportunities for GTA. He also said something similar about female protagonists, that the story they wanted to tell with V was better told with male protagonists.

Yes, I'm probably wrong, but I just can't imagine robbing banks with a female protagonist, or comitting mass murder, or stealing cars; I feel more "comfortable" doing that with my usual male protagonists. However, the character wheel was surely a success. We could have the possibility to switch between male and female protagonists.

Finally, I just have a question for you, guys. Even tho' I realize how important Vice City (was) is for some players in the fanbase, why would it be relevant right now? Back in the 80s, well, you had of course Scarface, Glam music, those TV shows, the synths, etc. What makes Miami (VC) a good location besides pure nostalgia?

RDR fans didn't get their RDR stuff for the whole GTA Online jibber-jabber too. So I guess they will just milk RDR2 Online in the meantime.

And as for female protagonist, GTA1 had 3 female protagonists too if I'm not wrong. Nothing new. GTA is just turning around from having multiple characters to choose, then getting fewer, then became one hero per game, then back to 3, and so on.

If the information about Vice City is true, then I would like to see some other Florida cities. For example, Orlando or Tampa. Maybe even part of Georgia...

But I would not like to see the next game of the series in Vice City. I prefer Philadelphia or Boston-like cities.

If this is real, I don't like it very much. I knew there would likely be more than one city, but I expected a 'GTA: America' to bundle together the cities we already knew, Las Venturas, Liberty City, San Fierro, Los Santos and Vice City. I hope they don't waste all that time on modeling South America. I want to see Las Venturas again, especially.

The TV show was much better

In the first couple of episodes in Season 1 they chase after a Drug dealer named Calderone and end up in the Bahamas.

Being a non american i must ask is Tampa, Orlando, Fort Lauderdale all that different from Miami?

Fort Lauderdale is similar to Miami and it's nearby. Tampa and Orlando are completely different and farther away.

There are like no beaches in Orlando, Tampa doesn't really have that international influence like Miami.

Orlando is central Florida area no oceans, but famous for Disney World, Theme parks, Universal Studios etc

Tampa have theme parks, water parks, downtown area, parks, more laid back than South Florida

Fort Lauderdale is 30 minutes away from Miami it slower pace, nice beaches and tourist areas

while I dont have an issue with a female lead protagonist, I do when its being done because they are trying to be PC,  PC and GTA are things that never go together.

Having a non-white male does not make the game PC. Seriously yall don't even know the meaning of politcal correctness
