I don't think adding the rest of the SA map (or some variant of it) all on one map is a good idea. People will be waaaaaay too spaced out unless they increase the lobby size.

Personally, there should be two maps, the current one, and a smaller map featuring Las Venturas (hell if they even do this they could add working casinos) and area's around it (like the one from above)

You'd pick which map you want to go to by either selecting it when going online from the pause menu, having a setting where you set which map you want to go to when you go online from the main menu and character swap, and being able to go to the airport and fly from there.

This way there's not that big of a hit of performance and it's not completely spaced out

Adding the two Islands back would be a great place to start.

Think it would be interesting to have a gambling aspect to the game in the high-roller VIP rooms.

Maybe even a Billiards Room with multiplayer 8 ball. Quick down-and-dirty hustles and big payout tournaments.

Bare-knuckle cage style fighting in the Main Event Room.

You could even do each of these activities in a tournament-style play.
Also it could all be wagered upon by spectators and participants alike.

Then there's always the possibility of robbing a casino.
...heist style ;)
It would give us the chance to one-up CJ and Woozy.

I think that adding the San Andreas map into the game (San Fierro and Las Venturas) would only be a good idea if you could switch between the locations, instead of having it all together (e.g being able to go into lobbies where you are in your chosen location). I would LOVE to see these places in HD, so I don't really mind HOW they do it.

I think San Fierro should get priority in being added. It's the best one IMO. Between Las Venturas and San Fierro, SF is the best for me.

The hills and the landmarks would look amazing in HD. I don't know why they didn't implement it into the current map from the get go, but it was a HUGE mistake to leave it out. Sadly, we'll probably have to pay for an expansion like this but it would be a huge addition to the game, so it's kind of expected.

I doubt we'll ever see it, so I hope they give it some love in another title (probably not GTA 6, but nobody knows).

Spoiler

My dream map expansion. Make 3 separate lobbies, 1 for each part of the map to handle it properly, I guess.

You could travel between the 3 of them, with a loading screen to change sessions. After the loading screen, you appear at the other part of the map in the vehicle you were using before. Warp points at the airport/airfields should exist too, for a fee.

Yea, people forget, the map was originally designed for 16 players. They doubled player cap for the PC current gen remaster but didn't double the map size.

well now I feel like everything is exactly right.

The bottom 2/3s of the map (because really no one goes to the top) seem like there's always a player that's atleast a 5-6 blocks away.

Which is what a online game in this style should be like

Yeah I don't think adding it as part of the current map is a good idea but making it a separate space certainly sounds like a plan

They could even do something like move all car exports to San Fierro similar to the way it was in the original San Andreas.
...or maybe add a special exports, to expand on the whole import export aspect.

If they manage it properly they could effectively limit the game types and vehicles available on each island.
By doing so they would probably limit the problems with trying to make deliveries in a public session where people have access to any and all Weaponry available.

Which would probably boost the competitive nature between crews because more people would be willing to take part in it if it was a system where the balance is a little more equaled

Just imagine...
Special exports could consist of exporting high-end planes, yachts (like michaels from story mode) even gass tankers.
Like Jimmy said...
"They just took possession of it with payment pending."

One team/crew defends the shipment while the other has try to board and stop them from reaching the delivery point.

Could even do it Mad Max style in the desert With the gass tankers.

Or nuclear waste shipment deliveries that must be to certain locations or the time of detonates.

Map expansion is very unlikely to happen IMO.

Everyone talking about them adding this map and that map haven't considered what you're going to be able to do on these maps...

If they add a new map then they'll also have to add new;

- DM, LTS, Captures,

- Races, Stunt Races, Transform Races,

- properties, garages, Benny's, LSC

- Bincos, Ponsonbys etc, Ammunations,

- new bunkers, MC clubhouses, IE workshops,

- etc etc blah blah blah

and with that a whole bunch of new animations, interactions, interiors etc etc.

Otherwise there'll be a great big empty city with nothing to do.

Ain't gonna happen. Far too much work for R* to take on at this stage, considering they're working on someone elses game essentially - piling code on top of old code.

Far better to make a few DLCs that add to the current map. Concentrate on RDR2, then wind down GTA:O to work on GTA6 with a bigger map/reworked old maps etc.

Great threat. I did post quite a lot about map expansion in the past. So one thread for this is very welcome.

I will speak about a map like the second picture you did post with all major cities we saw in the past. LC, VC, SF and VC.

So, what I want from a map expansion.

More variety and more possibilities. The game feeling would change completely depending on the location you are.

I would love to own a flat in LC, Use the R* Editor in LC. That would be amazing.

l5ks7ko430p.png

Also I would like to see major desert with flat area (Salt flats) where speed races are available as job.

fqdaomp80em.png

Also imagine the possibilities for role player with all the new locations.

To travel faster they could increase the velocity of plaines at higher altitudes.

I really hope this is the plan for the Next GTA as I can´t imagine it will be realized for this generation in such volume. I could imagine LC for this generation to happen.

Also new maps would really need a great Story for Single player introducing new contacts that will be used later Online.

Also 60 player sessions would be the next step.

A map addition could be great, but i don't expect a "full new map", because a new full map takes at least a year to develop, you know with it's npcs map interaction, etc

maybe a little addition would be nice, like a new location that built in the remaining empty space, but, will it work in consoles?
In ps4 there was a lag going on with that maze bank building, what will happen if they add another map? Will it crash the game? I don't know because it seems complicated

And will the DDH be the last DLC for next gen consoles? just like the old gen, heists addition, new radio stations, but we never know, we shall see later

Just a quick brain-fart I had.

If Rockstar were against a fully populated island expansion (with NPCs, vehicles and their pathing) they could develop some Doomsday stuff into creating a new land mass that has little to no life on it.

For example, whenever this DLC / expansion was released, all players logging into GTA:O would be treated to their toon sitting watching TV, or on their computer, or just browsing the internet using their cellphone - they would be interrupted by a pirate broadcast from Cliffford who somehow survived the final mission, and 'he' announces that a nuke has been launched towards LS.

For some reason (hacked by Lester, crashed into by a Deluxo, pinged off a wind turbine etc.) the nuke misses the mainland and detonates on a nearby island, wiping out most life and leaving a lawless wasteland.

I'll let you fill in the gaps for what the island could physically be like. In terms of reasons for existence, we could have a host of missions from various sources wanting to lay claim to various parts of the new space - maybe the Epsiloms want to build a giant temple - maybe the IAA / FIB want to sweep the place and hide their secrets - maybe Lamar wants to raid the ruins for new but 'slightly radioactive' merch he can sell on the downlow. And perhaps on the island itself there is a growing hoard of survivalist zombies and/or aliens that hunger for tasty fish cards...

I'm clutching at straws and trying to think of as-accessible a method that a new area could be made available with the current limitations of the game and engine.

Surely consoles can handle at least one new map? I have a Ps4 btw. But I'm sure if the game loaded one map at a time, it would work (I'm not a programmer or anything so I don't know) ?

hmm maybe they can add a new map, but i don't know if it can handle a new landmass like a modded LC map, it's too complicated, the mechanism for npcs, the interactive settings, traffic settings, vehicle mechanism etc

But i don't know, maybe if there are some programmers in the forum they can give us an enlightment about this mechanism

What about another area apart from Los Santos like The Island in Scarface:TWIY? I was working on a DLC concept about this.

Anyway, I wouldn't mind a map expansion but right now I'm still fine with the one we all now.

I'm curious on how will the current highway system be modified to attach the additional land masses. And how properly the game will render all of that. I think it would be better if it were huge separate land masses accessed by plane, whether it is San Fierro and Las Venturas together or all three cities individually.

Of course, all cities separate would be better for loading the game, but it would completely breaks immersion. You want to go from Los Santos to Las Venturas on a whim, driving either a Zentorno to it, or flying there in a Hunter.

I want another airport or airfield to land at. It could be a small regional airport with a full interior. In addition, some new hangar properties that serve only as an aircraft storage point, excluding the smuggle business. This could also be a great opportunity to have boat stations on the shore that function like hangars, but are used for watercraft instead.

Not so much of an expansion, just a revamp of our current map. A lot of us have played from day one and the Online Universe is now (at time of writing) 2018.

So, things like completing the 5 year old construction sites etc would be enough to keep me happy and stop my OCD twitching. After all, in the past year Bunker and Facility hatches have magically shown up in our world ;)

Having cutscenes showing your character flying to the new area whilst it is loading could be a good stand-in for actually driving there? Whilst I agree loading the areas separately would break immersion, I'm sure that that is the only way to do it without causing problems on consoles. I dunno how much they can actually handle, but I'm sure it'll be a strain.

I totally support any kind of map expansion, but I believe small islands would be more viable for a non-paid DLC. Considering SA is a big isle, it would make sense to add more places surrounding it.

Every new DLC would feature a new place/city to explore. These cities would contain specific businesses according to their enviromnent, nature and resources. The new businesses would consist in exporting stuff to LS and Blaine County, requiring new vehicles and capabilities from the player.
If the island is place with nature and mountains, mining would be a good business considering LS is demanding gemstones or gold below market prices.
In case the new island is a congested city, smuggling would be there, but the hangar would be replaced with a marina as part of a Naval DLC. It would be called Piracy.
Talking about Naval DLC, it would make more sense because more people would roam between the islands and you wouldn't be navigating in circles.

My ideas:

- Mining and Piracy businesses available as part of the Naval DLC.
- The sea would receive a big update as well with oil-rigs, undersea places to explore, sunken ships, secrets and more.
- The yacht would receive its first update and could be related to the new Piracy business.
- The new islands would contain airports or airfields with new hangars available.
- The "nature" island would have mines and underground secrets to explore; hunting animals would be possible. Police wouldn't bother you there, unless you kill a local NPC, call it or "bring it" with you.
- Ability to export cars, drugs and other stuff to the new island with a higher risk.
- New vehicles, submersibles and more...

I'd like a map expansion but here's why I think it won't happen.

Presumably R* are working on VI, and will be putting all their 3D modelling resource into that. With RDR out this year, it's hard to see them brining out VI before 2020. That will make the current map 7 years old atleast.

Obviously in that time graphics are going to take a big step forward. Its not going to be viable to plonk a UHD island next to a HD one without it looking, well, crap. There are two options - you either create a new city with 2013 graphics and add that, Erm... Nope. Or you give the whole of Los Santos a very time consuming remastering job.

It feels like the obvious choice is just to start again in VI with a brand new map. That's been a winning formula for so long, and just based on the first month of sales, they'd have to be very bold to move away from that.

I'll grant it is a difficult conundrum. The current player base makes them money and they won't want to disrupt that. But it's difficult to see how they viably expand GTA V's online without a lot of expense for uncertain benefit, versus the alternative of starting afresh with GTA VI.

I would love to see a map expansion but unless they have already been working on it for a while I just don't see it happening.

However if they added only San Fierro and Las Venturas what i would like to see would be new airports at each one and players who have a hanger at Zancudo are evicted and can choose a hanger at either LSIA or one of the new city airports.

A Navel base in SF with some suitable boats maybe even a docked aircraft carrier :)

Area 51 in LV with army base protecting it, ties in with the UFO theme from single player.

Specific gangs in each city like the triads in SF and Italian mob in LV

Players can open new offices in each city but only after a certain rank 400 - 500 for example, as this will give players something to aim for, they can choose to move existing office of course.  For all business related sales like coke, I/E, gunrunning etc then if player chooses to sell in different area then reward is increased by 50% or more.

M/C clubhouse same as office, a new chapter can be opened but only after certain rank or maybe amount of sales made?

There would have to be new bunkers, facilities, I/E warehouses, coke factories etc added unless there are new business types added for each region?
