This may sound like a dumb question, but can SD cards extend storage on your phone?

My phone's has no SD card slots, so I'm going to say "it depends".

Also on Android, some/most apps can't be moved to SD-storage.

Yes you can move photos, videos, documents some offline games or apps to sd card.
But smartphones today give you enough space already and there is 100gb free cloud storage given by Google.
So I think you don't need to buy sd card.

Yes and no.

Android:

Some phones allow you to install apps on the SD card.   If not you will have to jail break it.  If you are not interested with apps the card is good to go for storing music/video/photos.

IOS:

You can buy dongles such as the idragon to add sd storage but you can only add music/video/pictures to it.   It will not allow you to store apps.
If you want to use it for apps take a look at jailbreaking.   It may or may not allow you to use the sd card for apps.

obviously, yes.

Like a member said above, use cloud storage as much as possible to "extend storage" of any kind (other than apps and videos). You can access it from anywhere, plus you don't have to spend extra on buying sd cards.

I only use sd cards to store videos, for the rest like photos and docs, cloud storage is a LOT better alternative.
