I see people do really weird things on almost a daily basis but for some reason, there's one thing that has always stood out.
I was taking care of a critically ill baby at work and I walked up to the bedside to check out one of the IV lines. The baby's mom was sitting at the bedside and absolutely freaked because she didn't see me wash my hands before I came over. I explained that I had, but I washed them again anyways in front of her (even though I wasn't going to be touching the kid directly, but whatever). A little later, I glanced over through the window from the connecting room and saw her dig her stained-up wallet out of her purse, pull out an old credit card, and start using it to scrape nasty goo and dead skin out from underneath her very long fingernails! She was flinging it everywhere while sitting right there at her baby's bedside. I marched over and said, "You know, out of every area on our bodies, we probably harbor the most bacteria under our fingernails and you're just sitting here flinging it around after you just yelled at me for not washing my hands?" She just stared up and me, blinking.
When people look at me they probably don't realize just how often I fantasize about choke slamming ignorant motherf*ckers.
