Are the explosive rounds the last thing unlocked? I got 40 of 50 something done but still no explosive rounds.

Heavy sniper Mk2 is a big improvement. The problem is that the original heavy sniper is no longer available once you upgrade and the mk2 requires a trip to your bunker to buy ammo after you use its capacity of 40 (?) bullets.

Actually yeah, it is available. Just hit "Revert" at the bottom of the page; doesn't cost anything to revert and you keep all of your MK1 (and MK2) attachments. Speaking of MK2, once you buy an MK2, you can freely swap between MK1 and MK2 without paying a single cent.

Oh thank goodness! I didn't know that. After all, I'm kind of used of how much Rockstar charges us for everything at every chance they get.

Yeah, I was used to it too (weaponized vehicle and aircraft weapon swaps costing you every time rubs me the wrong way). The feature is really useful for RnG players who play PvE also, so they can swap between their MK1 Special Carbine for PvP (scope, grip, suppressor, and drum mag), and their MK2 Special Carbine for PvE. I don't really need the MK1 Special Carbine though, since the Bullpup destroys people and the MK2 isn't much worse than the MK1 version (the fire rate is a little slower in exchange for more damage per round, making it viable for PvE as well)

A question : why go back to the Mk.1 variant of anything, unless the drum magazine or looks was something you were going for, due to the increased damage and accuracy (probably other things too) of the Mk.2 versions?

If you are an RnGer, the MK1 Special Carbine is your best friend with the suppressor and drum mag equipped, so there may be someone who likes both weapons and switches depending on the situation.

Personally I switch from MK2 for my weapons just to mess around with the MK1 variant or use the drum mags on the MK1.

RnG is a fair way to play PvP. It's not very fair for some dickhead to take cover and rifle the sh*t out of you (because you can just pop out of cover extremely fast). There is no point using RNG in PvE though.

Or keep snack bar open while on the move.

Not worth it, because ill still body someone that has them... They dont make you a better shooter, they give you limited ammo on the special bullets and you cant buy ammo from interaction menu... Waste of money and time running back and forth to moc

RnG is how the big boys play.. Then we light the wall huggers up with an rpg if they r1

The main problem with the mkII weapons is once you have spent the money on research, the expensive ammo and converting it in the first place and then discover a weapon and ammo type that is great for PvP (eg MKII sniper and explosive ammo or mkII heavy revolver with hollow points), then Rockstar, being what they are, promptly nerf them making them no better than standard ammo in standard weapons. A headshot with a mkII heavy sniper with explosive rounds now does less damage than a headshot with a standard pistol with standard rounds.
Of course it will still blow up a npc vehicle in one shot though. More of the famous Rockstar logic in action.

Heavy Sniper and Pump Shotty - explosive rounds

Combat MG - AP rounds

Thats it.

Adding special ammo to rifles isn't worth it in my opinion.

The 20 round mag is just too low - you almost spend more time reloading than actually shooting your opponent.

I've been killed because of that, plus you lose too much ammo when you die.

Extended clip, aim for the head and Robert's your father's brother :)

The Heavy Sniper is worth upgrading even if you don't have explosive rounds unlocked, because at the very least you can buy an 8-round magazine for it.

Although not much of a strategic asset, the Heavy Revolver has been actually greatly improved by its mk2 treatment.

(I do occasionally use it by way of "taking the scenic route" in certain contact mission solos, i can recommend it, it's fun).

The unlocks are random.
