I'm surprised that you started this topic.

OT:

more challenging driving

more focused story(I mean it loses a bit of steam at the end with pegorino but makes up for it with the ending)

other than that they're both excellent games!

I can't wait to finally build my pc, and play them again!

-The story events fit each other, unlike SA where you suddenly go from gangbaning and hood theme to infiltrating a military base then steal some mysterious "green goo".
-Having the ability to be in the character's shoes, feeling their emotions. Not a lot of games nailed that feeling in my opinion .
-Character writing: The background of the characters is so deep and detailed. For example
Spoiler
; it feels like Rockstar made a lot of effort and put love into even minor characters, a sociopath serial killer made right.
I didnt really find that in SA
-The rain
-More satisfying feeling when dodging cars in a chase due to the challenging driving.
-More intimidating antagonist and makes more sense for the reason going after him.
-"This is Weazel news": Lots more news reports that show your exploits throughout the story and other unrelated events which makes you feel the game world feel alive and realistic. (IK SA also has some DJs talking about story events but in very limited quanties. In IV it has lots more and news reports for what is happening outside the crime world of Liberty City)
-Yellow cars

Spoiler

-No pointless RPG elements.

-Niko's a far more believable protagonist than CJ.

-Side missions for the most part are actually crime centric. No stupid quarry, valet, paramedic missions etc.

-No slow as f*ck clothes changing animation. Though GTA IV's not perfect at least it doesn't take Niko 500 years to change a shirt.

-A cover system.

-Better weapons sounds.

-Better shooting mechanics.

-The taxi system sh*ts on the trip skip function.

-Dimitri > Tenpenny.

-Niko's not a whiny little pussy.

-Safehouses are more detailed and interesting to be in. Quality >,quantity.

-Missions are more grounded and sensible.

-The friends/girlfriends system is a huge improvement.

ill take Liberty City & Alderney over San Andreas as a location, mainly because I thought the atmosphere in SA was a tad stale & Liberty City is far more detailed & felt more alive IMO.

Improved Vigilante missions.

Yes. Other than Las Venturas I didn’t care for the other cities. To be fair for the time the map was good, but after experiencing Liberty City/Alderney I never looked back.

More cohesive story and better character depth.

First Gta to have a cover system.

Easier method to imput cheats, instead of entering a code every time they are stored on the phone.

Improved follower ai. Dwayne's backup are more useful that grove street homies.

-No need for diving under water.

-Peds are far more varied.

-Cops make an attempt to arrest criminals rather than just shoot them dead (This nastiness of the A.I returned in GTA V sadly).

-Interiors make structural sense with their exteriors.

-Clothing whilst not the biggest selection fits Niko's style and isn't cluttered with gimmick sh*t like cowboy boots, funny glasses etc.

Being consistent. SA was quite bloated and experience wise has its peaks and valleys. Rockstar just had a better understanding of how to pace a game by 2008.

You cant really compare SA to GTA4  this needs to be on the GTA5 section as that is what GTA5 is a SA remake, it has no connection to GTA4 in my opinion.

The pedestrians  in GTA 4 are much better imo. In SA it felt like I was just seeing a clone every five meters with the occasional elvis. In GTA 4 they felt more alive and busy.

This is a pretty controversial topic But I agree with it. People worship San Andreas. While its a good game. Its not absolutely perfect.
