I'd rather do paid DLCs for the simple reason a paid DLC is a consumer feedback directly to R*.
This current macrotransaction model has insolated R* from any feedback from the consumer. Thus, there are no consequences if they produce bad content. The current model feeds content just to justify it's existence (read sells shark cards). There is no effort to advance GTA:O as a game.
Just keep priming the pump for cash card sales. For this, I can't support the notion that 'it's still free.'
Free = content that serves another master rather than gaming.
While I do agree, partially, that paid content can
be better than microtransactions but the game already has the latter.
And a game with both seems like the purest form of greed. See Also: Payday 2 and MGSV: TPP. At least Overkill removed microtransactions when people bitched enough about it but Konami still raped whatever was left of the MGS franchise.
But looking at it another way, new DLC announcement makes everyone grind the game even more to be able to afford the new content. If they had paid DLCs, we would have to save up irl money for it.
And some people probably do that. Save irl money for shark cards.
