San Andreas.

It starts off strong up until the moment CJ gets exiled from Los Santos. After that it becomes sh*t shambles with no direction or focus at all despite CJ trying to break Sweet out of prison yet he has time to be a spy for hire and messing with the mob.

Crappy story. 4/10.

GTA 5. After what we saw in 4, I was disappointed to see GTA 5's scenario. There are no real choices in this storyline. And, I don't know for y'all, but having three characters made it less immersive. I did not developp any compassion for any of the protagonists.

Agreed

After Green Sabre, I have no clue about what CJ are trying to achieve

I wish Ryder and Smoke never betrayed the GSF so the story could've make sense. And doing more gangster activites rather than stealing jetpack, then use it to steal green goo

Both San Andreas and V got rather mediocre storylines, but since the former was the part of the 3D era, I can cut it some slack.

Sure, gangbanger from LS, turned illegal car racer and bank robber turned triad associate turned special agent, made no sense at all and the story was all over the place, but at least it was quite interesting. And it's mostly bearable apart from the moment CJ has to steal jetpack and attack government train or do various strange tasks for Toreno (mostly in Vertical Bird).

V on other hand is short, uninteresting and written only for being action packed. Three characters also don't help as I could get attached to either of them. When IV and TLaD showed us such great storylines it was natural for V to follow in their footsteps, but instead we get incoherent mess.

Both SA's and V's stories were "Meh", but if I had to choose the one that's worst, I'd go with San Andreas. The game's story had many unncessary threads that felt completely moronically in a game which storyline was meant to be about gangbanging.

V.

San Andreas got weird but it at least explored several elements of the underworld.

V pretty much didn't show us anything about the LS underworld besides the lame trio's personal bullsh*t. I felt so disconnected from LS in V.

Most GTA games storylines get really uninteresting after a certain point.

VC: After Tommy and Lance kill Diaz.
SA: After CJ leaves LS.
V: After Trevor comes to LS.

Out of the main titles, III and IV are the only ones that more or less held my attention the entire time. I'll just pick V as the most uninteresting due to having the biggest potential, and the worst cast of supporting characters.

SA: After Green Sabre, The storyline is the worst

V: After Prologue, The storyline is even worst than GTA SA

VC: After Tommy and Lance Vance Kill Diaz, The most terrible.

GTA III, VCS, and IV are quite good though.

How come nobody mentioned LCS yet? I hated this story completely, it was just about Toni being a lapdog to half of Liberty City. Not to mention that he's portrayed as a soulless robot that only differs from Claude that he can throw some cheesy angry one-liners.

Yeah LCS storyline seems kinda dull too, especially on the "Church" mission, why does Toni just accept the "preacher" order doing criminal while confessing his sins, he just believe what the preacher said and do his order without hesitation even tho Toni finally unveil the truth that preacher/father is a Liberty News reporter (cmiiw)

For me:

San Andreas: Kinda good storyline until The Green Sabre mission where Ryder and Big Smoke betrays GSF and causing CJ moving out from Los Santos. where the storyline gets worse

V: Not bad storyline for me, but the Problem was after First Heist the storyline, it gets real worst. 3 Optional Final Mission, Trevor kills Johnny K and Bad Supporting Characters cast

SanAndreas story lost clarity after the Green Sabre, however the plots/missions after were somewhat still entertaining, so were the characters as well. loved that clockwise map effect as you progress the missions and unlocking stuff, You start in LS and finish in LS.

It felt like since the Green Sabre mission, Rockstar wasted the the build up of the actual story until Sweet came out of jail as Carl tells him he has this and that in SanAndreas and no need for gangbanging anymore, until they went back to gang banging, it felt like the real story is back on track, but wasn't for very long.

V started well with the heist setup and was well written and then went straight cuckoo FIB do FIB and the story ended up feeling short circuited, would be at least acceptable and made more sense if they would throw the DLC in.

VC: After Tommy and Lance kill Diaz.

To be honest as much as I love Vice City the story feels pointless after killing Diaz. The main bulk over the story is over in less than 10 hours with the rest being made up of mostly asset missions and missions for the Cubans, Haitians etc.

Definitely SA and V. The former goes down the sh*tter after The Green Sabre, and the latter could've had potential if R* focused on writing a good story instead of Online.

I definitely agree . It's my all time favorite Gta , but it seems like Rockstar somewhat added a very short story then just added some side mission's that didn't necessarily add up with the story.

But i think Vice City is still one of the best stories in the series along with Gta IV & EFLC that's just my opinion.

SA and V are so overrated lol

That's another reason why i hate them both in some way

Gta SA

1. Meme after meme about Big Smoke & Wrong Side Of The Tracks

2. CJ's annoying lol

3. Story is all over the place as i mention before

4. Most of the character's

5. The amount of myth's and legends

Gta V

1. How to stop the train sh*t

2. Chiliad mystery

3. Online , that's all i got to say about that lol

4. Loading time

5. Story

Yeah, this was always my main problem with the story. It completely stalls after that point and you're just left doing the filler asset missions until the actual climax.

If i recall correctly The Ballad of Gay Tony had no story, just tying up a bunch of loose ends from the other two games while being Tony's boring personal slave. The trinity wraps up so well because you've got a whole game of deus ex do what i say because i'm you're boss and you're unbelievably loyal to me behind it, and Tony getting wrapped up in all kinds of unrelated adventures because he's a silly drug addict.

rather than stealing jetpack, then use it to steal green goo

Although this is true, you should give all these "unrelated stuffs" to the main story some credits because you wouldn't be able to use jetpack at all nor would you knew what it was since Rockstar would not feature one had they made the story completely gangbanging theme instead of making it something different.

While I do agree with what the majority of you are saying about San Andreas and its storyline, I don't really think it had the WORST storyline. Just look at GTA V...

Now, I'm not going to tear the story of GTA V a new one just because everyone does. Not gonna jump on the bandwagon. I liked SOME of it, but the rest feels cliched, poorly written, incoherent and just plain bad. It was downright lazy compared to the almost-genius story of GTA IV (again, my opinion, I am not an "IV fanboy"), which I think would make a great movie or TV series, to be completely honest...

But yeah...GTA V story was a step down from the previous games...unfortunately...I had high hopes.

Gangbanging was only a small part of CJ's life that he clearly wanted to get away from. He only went back to it to gain his brothers trust back than to try and convince him to get out of there with him. Other than that to each their own.

For me it's GTA V due to Trevor and the lack of real story for Franklin's character. With Franklin everything just seemed thrown together with no real explanation. He lives with his aunt, Why? Him and Tanisha broke up outside of the game's story. Why? I would have liked to seen them together for a while then have him mess up one way or another and she leaves him.

Like maybe he and Tanisha both attend UCLS at the beginning but then he gets kicked out due to Professor Simeon similarly to Vic getting kicked out of the army. Franklin does extra jobs for Simeon  until something goes wrong on the last one. Like perhaps he's sick of all these loud parties happening so he sends Franklin to to put a stop to it with a plan of some sort. Franklin gets there and it  turns out Tracey De Santa also goes to the school and she's in trouble with some people. They come after her with guns and Franklin helps her get away. He takes her home and before he leaves she kisses him as a thank you. Unknowingly a cop who was tailing them sees the whole thing and Franklin gets arrested shortly after he drives off.

In a cutscene Tanisha comes to visit him at the jail then leaves him instantly when she learns of the kiss from that same cop who saw it before Franklin can even explain himself. Long story short Franklin moves back in with his aunt and turns to crime with Lamar until Michael eventually catches up with him and they go from there similarly to how it went down in the game.

With that being said Trevor was just annoying as hell and really didn't need to be a part of it. I would have liked to play as Lamar, Packie, or Paige Harris instead.
