Week of September 10th - September 17th
Welcome to the twenty-seventh issue of the GTAForums Weekly newsletter!
We've got lots of great news that's occured over the past few days, so let's jump right in and not waste any time. Let's start off with the new Staff promotions. Crokey, formerly the Sports sub-forum leader, was bumped up to the Moderator just a few days ago, with Raavi and
corrupt llama farmer Voodoo, both formerly moderators, being promoted to the Administrator rank. Congratulations, fellas!
Besides the recent staff promotions, a new sub-forum was created within the Expression section! Books & Comics had been suggested by Homemade Dynamite in June and the idea gathered a decent amount of interest. There is a catch, though.. Kirsty explained that if it's inactive after the new year, then it'll be scrapped and merged with Writer's Discussion. So, if you like the idea of the new sub-forum, be sure to participate and contribute!
The deadline for submissions for the GTAF Snap Battle has been extended to tomorrow, September 18th! If you've procrastinated this long and are interested in joining in, your time is running short. Prizes have been revealed as well, the first place winner will receive physical GTA V radio station badges. Cool, huh? Click here to be redirected to the Snap Battle sub-forum where you can find rules and submission topics!
On another note, the Weekly Vehicle Showdown has returned, and it's a very heated competition between the Annis Elegy Retro and the new FH-1 Hunter. The Elegy leads with 46 votes to the Hunter's 33.. There are still a few days left for this round, so be sure to vote before it's too late. In regards to other News sub-forum content, the 21st issue of Customs, Cruisers, and Classics was released. For the next few issues, V4S will be interviewing several members from the prestigious Goon Squad crew.
GTAForums currently has a total of 15,047,558 total posts (+8,026 from last week) and 715,485 total members (+367 from last week) at the time this is being posted.
Welcome to the twenty-seventh week of Rockstar Central! I’m your host, Spider-Vice, and we’ll be highlighting this week’s happenings in the Rockstar Universe.
Grand Theft Auto V is 4 Years Old!
A game now both loved and hated by people due to GTA Online, a massive success for Rockstar Games and Take-Two interactive, a game that has rustled everyone’s jimmies because of the annoying long information drought between 2012 and 2013, is now 4 years old!
Released worldwide on September 17 2013, Grand Theft Auto V went to receive a load of awards for its success such as Time’s Best Video Game Award of 2013, the Game of the Year award for 2013 by Spike, Inside Gaming and many others; the Most Immersive Experience of 2013, and so many other accolades that it needs a whole Wikipedia page just for itself, making it Rockstar’s most successful game and one of the most successful games in the world.
It was a game that generated more than $800 million in worldwide revenue within 24 hours of release, approximately 11.2 million copies sold! It became Playstation 3’s best-selling game, widely surpassing The Last of Us, and it broke several Guinness World Records on October 8 2013, showing Rockstar’s massive power in the gaming industry – Highest Grossing Video Game in 24 Hours; Fastest Entertainment Property to Gross $1 Billion; Highest Revenue Generated by an Entertainment Product in 24 hours and Most Viewed Trailer for an Action-Adventure Video Game.
GTA Online went to skyrocket this success even further, making GTA V one of the most played games in the world for a long time, so much so that Rockstar still supports the game 4 years later! Some may be getting sick of it now, but the game is definitely Rockstar’s/Take-Two’s most profitable property yet, and should set very high stakes for Red Dead Redemption 2.
This week, an icon of gangster movies and an actor known by almost everyone who knows the genre, Frank Vincent, has passed away. He starred in Goodfellas, Casino, among many others, and most importantly to Rockstar, he starred in GTA III, San Andreas and Liberty City Stories as Don Salvatore Leone, having always been faithful to the genre.
May you Rest in Peace.
The Dewbauchee Rapid GT Classic is now available in GTA Online! Like fine vintage wine, the Rapid GT Classic is a gem coming straight out of the old Dewbauchee factories, a deeply customizable vehicle you can now buy from Legendary Motorsport!
Through tomorrow, September 18, there will be a host of bonuses for both Adversary Modes and Aircraft and Ground Vehicle Upgrades! You will be able to find a Double GTA$ & RP bonus for the Motor Wars mode this week as well as it has been extended, and you can now take to the track and have the same bonuses for all Rockstar-created Stunt races!
Double GTA$ and RP are also being paid for cargo in Smuggler’s Run Sell Missions, and with Bodyguards and Associates also having a Double GTA$ and RP bonus because it is SecuroServ Employee Appreciation Week!
As for aircraft and ground vehicle discounts, you will be able to find 25% off on:
- Countermeasures in your Hangar Workshop
- Aircraft Engine and Armour Upgrades
- The Truffade Nero (base and upgrade)
- The Pegassi Tempesta
- Engine and Armour Upgrades for Cars
A new Premium Race and a Time Trial are also available:

The Sweepstakes winners should also be contacted now, for a chance to win a Black Merryweather Security Hat, a Grey Merryweather Tee, A Los Santos/San Andreas Tee, the GTA V Gold Bar USB, a Xero Inflatable Blimp, an STD Contractors Tree, a GTA V Pogo Keyring and a GTA V styled Chrome Zippo!
I’m your host, Ash_735, and this is the fourth edition of Get Modified. I hope you like map mods!
First off we are pleased to say that GooD-NTS of the OpenIV team has returned to the scene after difficulties in his recent house move. Now that he has recovered his hard drives, work has resumed on OpenIV once again with not one, but two updates being released over the past two weeks! You can read this post for more details.
Next up is a project we mentioned in the first edition of Get Modified, Grand Theft Auto Space, (now under the name Grand Theft Space) which has been released in a stable 1.0 build. A new description by the team reads:
This is a GTA 5 expansion that allows you to traverse outside of the world of GTA, into the solar system, and beyond! This mod was not made to be a mission based mod, but more of a platform for experienced developers to integrate scripts / maps / and other things into the DLC in order to create content and expand the community experience.
You can watch the release trailer for the project below:
For maps, once again thanks to CodeWalker, we have this amazing racing island map dubbed AkinaV created by Yoha. Using Google Maps as a reference and props from Grand Theft Auto V, Yoha and Dewalk28 have recreated Mountain Akina, located in Japan, as close as they could to turn this into a drifter’s paradise. With narrow bends, plenty of long stretches dripping in pure atmosphere, this is certainly one to check out if you want to put the latest vehicles to the test.
Another project that is getting mainstream attention lately is Project London, taking cues from the original Grand Theft Auto: London. This project aims to slowly convert Los Santos into London. Lead by KieranMerrilees this is a long-term project that he hopes will help people get a taste of Britain. You can try the first release for yourselves to get a better idea of the project.
In total conversion news, it appears significant progress has been made on the GTA Liberty City Stories 2 Vice City PC project, with mod leader Gladion posting a video showing the first cutscene of Liberty City Stories followed by the first mission converted directly from the original mission scripts. There still seems to be issues that need to be addressed here and there, but as far as things go, this is turning out to be one of the most accurate conversions of Liberty City Stories we have seen yet. Check out the video below:
To end off the week, in case you missed it, in last weeks issue of the GTAForums Weekly, mod creator _CP_ was interviewed, so be sure to check that out!
Recently promoted to his Moderator position, funnyman Crokey was able to join us for a quick chat.
Android: You've been a member of the forum as long as some members have been alive, but what brought you here initially?
Crokey: Yeah, thanks for the compliment . I was a lurker for a good while back when it was gta3forums.com, as I first looked for GTAIII hints and tips, and then modding tips for GTAIII as I was trying to work out a way to create articulation in Z-Modeler, for articulated lorries (or semi's for my stateside cousins). Needless to say, it didn't work. When I did join it was after Vice City has come out on the PC and I hung around the modding sections for information to help with modding Airwolf for Vice City, which was a popular download if I do say so myself, and was only second to a Harrier Jump Jet mod for most downloaded aircraft mod in Vice City. I tried to expand into scripting, when the NOS mod script was discovered and thought I could add that to my Airwolf mod, which after testing did work, but was very clunky. Then the real world kicked in and I didn't have time for modding, and there was all sorts of barriers put up so I drifted away from that and started to get involved in the more social side of the forums.
tl;dr - Mods.
What's the history / context regarding your username?
It was my nickname from when I was a kid, cause it's a typically British thing to add a "y" at the end of people's surnames.
Is there anything at all that you love or hate about the forum?
Love is maybe a bit strong, but I like that there is a nice sense of community here, which is not like Fecesbook, which is just a giant bitch-fest. Whilst we could walk past each other in the real world and not who each other is, when people to refer to other members who they get along with as friends, it doesn't seem as hollow as it does when people say they've got x amount of "friends" on Facebook... if that makes sense. What I hate; I hate that some people expect this place to be a YouTube comments section (sh*tpost central) or Twitter when they should be getting a response instantly.
As a newly appointed moderator, what do you hope to accomplish?
The same thing we do every night Pinky... Try to take over the world.
What would you like to change the most regarding GTAF?
Ban the Christmas skin.
Are you itching to use your shiny new ban-hammer, yet?
I'm not going to ban for the sake of banning, as I like to give people a chance, but if the trash needs taking out... then whatsa fella to do huh?
As the former sub-forum leader of the Sports section, what do you think can be done to encourage and increase activity?
There's a few sections which are a bit quiet, like sports... did I mention the Predictions Topic?.. oh not yet, that's still to come. This is mainly because a lot of the forum activity is within the GTA V and Online sections as they are near the top of the forums side bar, and are naturally active due to those games being the current cycle. But I do have an idea which may help this out, not only with the Sports section, but with other areas of the forums ... but if I tell you what it is I may have to... you know.
Which forum member do you feel closest to?
I respectfully plead the 5th on that.
What's your favorite Rockstar Games series or title?
Grand Theft Auto in all the 3D variants (III is still my homeboy), except Online. Anyone who knows me, knows my disdain for online gaming. It's a crying shame that the way GTA appears to be heading is this online only microtransactional model, which brings in the Benjamin's, but is slaughtering originality and creativity, especially as they've created the best map they've ever done in GTA:V with the San Andreas area, and only done one storyline. I could live with GTA:IV not having steak and fingerless gloves, but for GTA:V to only have one original story... for shame.
Do you have any other interests, hobbies, favorite music, and so on? Tell us more about the person behind your alias.
I like dining and long romantic walks on the beach... not really, I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere. To be honest, I don't really do that much, cause you can't do anything outdoorsy where I live as it's p*ssing it down for most of the year, but I should pull my finger out my butt and get back to my writing.
Any final comments? Do you have anything to say to our readers & the GTAF community?
Kendrick Lamar - Sing About Me, I’m Dying of Thirst
One of the main cuts from Kendrick’s critically acclaimed 2012 album is a 12-minute epic narrating three perspectives of people living in the ghetto, including gang violence and Kendrick’s own perspective on the issues. After an interlude, the track shifts into the second part of it, narrating the cleaning of his soul by baptism.
