People make threads for dead celebrities, so I might as well make a thread for this.

Last Tuesday, the NWS reported Hurricane Irma was expected to make landfall in the Caribbean and possibly South Florida, at a category 5 on the Saffir-Simpson scale and with wind speeds at over 185 miles per hour. This already makes it the strongest ever hurricane in the Atlantic ocean and one of the most powerful ever recorded.

States of Emergency have been declared and mandatory evacuations are currently being sent out throughout Florida. With wind speeds like this and the threat of flooding, uprooted trees, and irreparably destroyed homes in coastal cities, even if it's level is downgraded it will still be a threat to the places it hits (especially to Turkey Point Nuclear Power Station.)

Also of note, this storm is directly after Hurricane Harvey and right before the upcoming Tropical Storms Jose and Katia (also in the Atlantic), which is, like, super fun. All I can really hope is that people in the affected areas come out safe.

If this hit Florida at the Category 5 that they are predicting then it will be twice as bad as Harvey was on Texas.

Recuse crews here are already gearing up to head down to Florida as soon as Irma hits

"We interrupt your programming with a message from the state department. All bridges and some roads in the Vice City metropolitan area have been closed because of a severe weather warning. Meteorologists are tracking Hurricane Hermione, which has devastated 5 Caribbean islands and is heading for Vice City. More updates soon."

It's gonna happen all over again. Rockstar did it first.

This reminds me of a colleague I used to work with. We were talking about poverty and whatnot and suddenly he was like "Seriously, who gives a f*ck about Africa"

What an asshole.

This one is being spread around a lot, but it is actually a video taken during a tornado in Dolores, Uruguay in 2016

Very few images of the areas that were (worst) hit at present, regular channels of communication are down for the most part, so it's difficult to get a picture of the extent of damage.

Not only did Irma come soon after Harvey, we got Jose coming right behind Irma and now Katia is forming off the Gulf..

Jose is expected to move West North-west and Katia is to move Southwest.

I live in Daytona and I'm gonna bunker down. Already have my windows boarded up and got sandbags, not to mention my house is on a hill. While I don't know the exact grade (5%?) it's a pretty long hill and I'm happy that if anything does flood, I likely won't get anything f*cked up because I'm not at sea level like most of my neighborhood.

However, I am afraid of my dumb neighbors tree teetering into my backyard and if it falls, it could take out most of my house. Hopefully it doesn't fall, but if it does, it falls somewhere where nobody is effected.

Stay safe everyone who's in Florida.

They don't have bunkers in Florida. They would all be below sea level.

Just wanna comment that while Irma had been previously downgraded to a 4, Cuban Meteorologists are saying that the storm has strengthened back to a Category 5:

Florida-bound Hurricane Irma strenghtens back to a Category 5 as it makes landfall in Cuba - ABC

Hurricane Irma strengthens, hits Cuba on its way to Florida - bad title courtesy of CNN

Hurricane Irma strengthens back into Category 5 storm - New York Post

Stay safe.
