On K109, I can't tell what Karl is saying or what he means. Can anyone help?

It starts at 4:47 in the video: https://www.youtube....h?v=fIg9xZXwNDQ

It sounds like:

"Why would you decide one day that you give up engaging life when you stick your finger in the live socket of life and rewire yourself?"

First of all, is it "light socket" or "life socket" or "live socket"? I thought it was "light socket" at first, but now I think it's "live socket."

Second, does he mean the question straight up, like why would you do that (kill yourself)?

Or, does it mean why would you give up engaging life, comma, when you can stick your finger in the live socket of life and rewire yourself (reinvent yourself)?

Or maybe--third option--does he mean

Why would you think that you give up engaging life when you reinvent yourself?

Why would you decide one day

that you give up engaging life

when you put your finger in the live socket of life and rewire yourself?

They should've had him say this instead.
Spoiler

I stopped wearing sweatpants and flip-flops after I read that.

And he says life socket of life, OP.

And he says life socket of life, OP.

Not to be contrarian, but are you sure? He says life twice right before and after that part, and it sounds like a "V" sound to me. Plus, a "live socket" is a real thing with plugs/electricity, etc., and goes along with the idea of rewiring yourself.

What would he mean by life socket of life? Is it a sexual innuendo?

What does he really mean? I am still perplexed by this. Or is it just nonsense?

But I think he means what he says kind of literally--why would you decide one day that you are giving up engaging life when you stick your finger in the live socket of life and rewire yourself?

It's a double entendre which R* is famous for using in their gta games. He starts the question as "Why would you commit suicide" then the second part was "when you stick your finger in the live socket of life and rewire yourself?" Basically meaning you can start fresh and do things differently. The way he said it though can also be deadly if you electrocute yourself. Lol. I've never heard this dialogue before but I understood it immediately.

Bravo. I agree 100%. Ultimately I think the message is positive, but like you said, delivered with the dangerous double meaning. Pretty brilliant! Thank you  :music:  :inlove:

That's the glass half-empty reading, for sure. And you've edited it to fit that meaning perfectly.

But if you allow that it is a double entendre, you can also edit it to add the positive interpretation.

why would you decide one day

to give up engaging life

when [all you have to do] is stick your finger in the live socket of life and rewire yourself.

and/or

why would you decide one day

to give up engaging life

when you [can] stick your finger in the live socket of life and rewire yourself.

I love it. It's up to you, the choice is yours. A koan from the Kaiser.
