I was about to make a thread about this, and it was going to be a lot better than this one, too. Also, you should've posted it in Gen Chat like I was, the guy's a legend, not a petty TV actor. Well done, whoever moved it.

This is awful, I love his movies. :/ If it wasn't for him, I probably wouldn't have a zombie fetish. He also inspired me to write a short story about zombies, it was terrible though, lol. I wonder how long it'll take for someone to make a short film about him coming back as a zombie.

R.I.P George. My favourite movies are the original Night Of The Living Dead and Dawn Of The Dead. Absolute classics.

Holly...no...no...oh man...

He was the god of zombie gore man...i swear, 2016 being a bad year for admirable celeb deaths is almost at the point of becoming overrated.

A true shame  :/

Gotta go watch the "of the Dead" trilogy now. I say trilogy because land is not great. I don't mind it. But it's no Dawn or Day.

Before becoming a zombie: Rest In Peace

After becoming a zombie: Rest In Pieces

Another legend gone. I need to go binge watch his movies now.

Absolutely gutted about this, he was an absolutely phenomenal visionary and pioneer. Nobody could do it better. Also, it's sobering to me because my grandfather is the spitting image of him and is at least ten years older. It's making me think of his mortality and soon I'll be without two people who look like George Romero.

Sorry lol, was too bummed to expand on my OP. A shame we lost him, even though zombie movies have certain reputation these days, his movies were fairly smart, he always put his own twist on them, touching important subjects between all the gore and horror. Night of the Living Dead is just a masterpiece on that regard.

Damn, i really wanted to see Road of the Dead, RIP.

RIP to a legend, without him he would not have so many of the zombie movies we have today!

naturally the first thought when making a RIP thread is to make it really good and not to pay respects

RIP

I liked Land of the dead

When I was a kid the few scenes from Night of the living dead I saw left me a traumatism and I couldn't sleep during some nights.

When I heard that Romero died, I hoped they meant the Daikatana one. But we lost the good one, alas.

Don't be a dick. John Romero is one of the founding fathers of FPS genre. It will be a sad day for gamers when he dies.

I'll be honest. I thought that George Romero died years ago. I don't know why. RIP though. He was a visionary artist with a very unique mind.

I have first hand accounts from people who have actually had to work with him to go by. And I'm not saying I'd be happy he dies. I have no reason to wish that upon him. But out of the two Romeros, he'd be the one I'd miss by far the less.

Must be honest here...i only know his actual name from "call of the dead" zombie map in black ops, but having it looked up after this guy did invent the modern "infected" zombie and is pretty much responsible for modern zombie culture and related "infected" and such.

the father of intelligent, deep, non-stupid horror movies. his movies have horror only the name, they are far much deeper than this. much more deeper than the Evil deads or other Jason things that were made only to provoke jump scares to spotty teenagers

Fun fact, George Romero was offered to direct a season of The Walking Dead but he turned it down because TWD zombies weren't used to mimic the mindless consumption that Romero uses his zombies for.

Such a shame though, I must've watched Dawn of the Dead so many times because it was that damn enjoyable. It really says something when The Gonk still reminds me of the film rather than Robot Chicken even though I think I've seen RC more.

George Romero was about to direct Pet semetary too, then he got out of the ship when the producers wanted to force him to make an ending they had decided. i saw Pet semetary in the 90s and the result was another empty horror film. Romero's Zs aren't just Z, they are us. and this is the difference between an artistic movie and a profit made movie. Romero's isn't dead for sure, because he'll keep living through his movies
