Best Answer Wingate167, 11 July 2017 - 03:24 AM

I just wanted to let everyone know I followed the directions and was able to play for a few hours with no freezing at all. Thanks for all the help!

Recently, I got the Trilogy for the 3D GTA games and I've always had issues where the game would freeze during gameplay (mostly when driving or just at random). What happens when driving is the radio repeats a certain part of a song or word. I did watch the Downgrade video and got it to version 1.0. It helped for me with 3 and Vice City to press Escape a lot to the menu to prevent freezing. I used ASI Loading, Widescreen Fix, Silent Patch and SkyGFX.

I've tried a number of things to try to stop the freezing

  • Setting the amount of Detail to Low
  • Turned off Anti Aliasing and MIP Mapping
  • Putting the CPU's to 1 or 0
  • Set Compatibility Mode to Windows XP (Service Pack 3)
  • Deleting the GTA.set file in the San Andreas User Files

I do have a file saved in the XP Compablility Mode but when I got to Windows 98, my save is gone.

Here is my laptop and the specifications:

* ASUS Laptop Model G752VL

*Intel Core i7- 2.6 GHZ

*12888 M RAM

* NVIDIA GeForce GTX 965M (8130 MB)

* Direct X 12

* Windows 10 Home version 64 bit

Is there anything that can be done to stop the crashing? I'm getting annoyed.

That happens because you didn't downgrade correctly. The audio you have is from a different version than the executable. Completely uninstall the game, install it again, and then use a downgrader tool (and run it as admin to ensure it has write permissions).

Well, that stinks. Is there a thread on which downgrader to use and what to do? Also, was the NVidia and EAX Ad takes out of the downgrade? They didn't seem to show up on the downgraded version.

Should I first uninstall the downgrade and then the version I have on Steam? Would I lose my Saved game?

Before certain someone decides to once again act like a bot and lock this with his usual bullsh*t nearly auto-generated reply...

There is a San Andreas Downgrader topic in Mod Showroom out there. Get this one, then restore your game to 100% clean state and apply this downgrader. When done correctly, it's guaranteed to work.

How would I restore my game to 100% clean slate? I have GTA San Andreas from Steam and GTA San Andreas from the Downgrader from the Steam discussion topic

If you want to be absolutely sure, remove your entire game directory and then verify the cache - it'll re-download the entire game and all mod files will be gone (they wouldn't be if you only verified without deleting the game directory).

Also delete gta_sa.set but you seem to be aware of that already.

Also if you do these steps correctly and grab SilentPatch you shouldn't ever need to mess with cpu affinity so compatibility modes, so you might as well restore both to defaults.

Silent, sorry if I sound naive, would I lose my saved game? Should I delete the Steam files first then the Downgrade folder? I followed the instructions on YouTube from a video.

Afraid so. I'm not sure if the downgrader allows you to preserve Steam SCM files - but if it does then go for it and you should be able to still use your old saves safely.

There may be also a way to convert those but I'm not too familiar with online converters so I don't exactly recall what's the case in here.

Oh well, guess I should start over. I'll delete the game from Steam first along with the downgraded version. Which topic in the Mod Showroom has the correct downgrader? I just deleted both the Steam and downgraded and am re-installing it back on Steam.
