I'm in a shared house so can't really be fiddling with the router etc

I can still get an empty lobby on xb1 by changing my MTU ( not really changing the setting just going through the settings and hitting apply)

How do you do that?

I use an app from my isp. It's router specific. You have to go into your broadband connection and change the mtu. Disabling your broadband connection and quickly enabling it works also.

Keep everything to default EXCEPT the MTU setting; change that to a number between 577 and 900. The lower the number, the less likely someone can join you, but even at the lowest level it is possible for someone to join.

MTU changing is okay, but when I see a heist invite from friends or contact missions that I like, I like to join them on the fly. Can't do that if you change the MTU.

In the 1.40 Patch Notes, there is this line item:

 

• Improvements have been made in GTA Online to prevent crashes, improve the quality of matchmaking, and reduce the number of network connection issues such as disconnections and split sessions.

I suspect that the difficulties in creating solo-pub lobbies are due to some sort of improvement in network connection rather than an attempt to troll us by patching solo-pub methods. However, without checking back on previous release notes, this line item sounds familiar to me. Maybe this improvement is just that good.

it's for improvement just like @strikeslip said in the patch notes, preventing the game to crash etc, still it's a bummer though, i hope there are some alternative ways to get the solopub session again, because the mtu tricks is limited you can't join heist or CM just like you said...

That's me done with this game I'm sick of being forced to play with randoms that just want to grief everyone else. I don't use exploits or dupe methods for money. I just want to play new content without idiots usually aged about 12 blowing my sh*t up. Why do we have to play with randoms. f*ck you rockstar and f*ck your game

It's funny to me that they would even OFFER Solo/Invite-Only sessions, then release content that excludes those players.

I've tried everything to get a solo lobby, nothing works. If I keep switching lobbies, I get put back into single player, if I pull the ethernet cable out it just disconnects and I have no idea how to DDOS my Xbox. This is frustrating.

I've had no trouble getting my own lobby just logging into my Router, and putting my MTU to either 800 or 900.  This on XB1.

I'll add to the list...no issues getting a PS4 solo lobby with an MTU of 600. Actually got in faster than I had months ago when using the technique.

MTU is the only that might work. I know the other two have been patched for pretty much no reason. Not sure why they can't just allow the stuff to be done in Invite Only sessions.

X lag still works, in solo right now.  Use insane lag when trying to join online, gets me solo every time.  If this and MTU settings still work I would imagine that watching 4k videos on youtube on a different device on the same network would still work if your internet is not great.

MTU 578 worked for me (PS4)

It may take forever and say it's not available, but that would happen sometimes anyway

how does it work?

 

Imagine your WiFi as a hose. Let it be and turn on the water and it flows freely. Now pinch it and less water can get through at the same time. Since the internet can't speed up (won't speed up) like water will, a backlog is created and needs to be cleared. Since R* method is to isolate your connection they pass those trying to enter your world into other sessions and leave you in your own session (nearly. You may have one or two in your session but the tend to disappear in a little while). It is a way of maintaining the stability of the game for as many as possible.

For anyone that plays on console but also has a desktop PC or laptop, try Xlag, just a small harmless app that spikes your internet lag & causes a session split. Instantly toggle-able, with the added bonus of pissing off your flatmates during their 'me-time'.. Worked everytime until I started using the playlist method.

I tried MTU 800 and 600 and both time I had someone join after a little bit.  but only 1 both times.  I have gigabyte internet, should I try even lower than 600?

When I see someone cry about the solo public session being cheating or "cheesing" I just cant help but laugh. Fact is there are tons with modded multimillions who do not have to worry about making money legit so they get bored, grab a jet and just blow up the players who actually earn legit money who are also extremely vulnerable in their 5mph post op vans. Its all a way to sell more shark cards to those who do not mod money which is one reason other than not being a complete A-hole I will not destroy others cargo. I'm not going to help R make more money espeically when they refuse to fix their sh*t servers.

The MTU and date/time methods should still work, as they're not something R* can really account for.

 

Same for pulling your ethernet for 6 secons, or switching from WiFi to ethernet.

The only thing they can do to the MTU thing is to make it so that a minimum of x amount of players has to be in the lobby

Yes, I set it to insane, join an online session from single player and when it zooms up to the clouds I click start on xlag. When it starts zooming down I click stop on xlag.
