ONE thing that i learned of for being a Rockstar Fanboy...

NEVER TRUST THE GODDAMN FIRST RELEASE DATE!!!

Shouldn't take the second one for granted either.

exactly! look how long it took to get that lohan case over with. now that benz case is a) a REAL case, and b) it's the benz' case. it will take until 2019 certainly to get anywhere. so yeah, E3 2018 we get a glimpse of what's to come, and then maybe in may of 2019 we'll see the game.

RDR2 is obviously being shown at E3 2020 and being released as an Xbox Two exclusive.

I pre-ordered the game a while back. I think in January. My receipt has completely faded so it's not possible to see that I've pre-ordered it. As long GameStop has my phone number, do you think I am ok?  I don't think it's possible to ask another receipt.

not sure :/ You should have treated that piece of paper like it was worth $60. lol. When i preorder months in advance to a game's release, I leave it in my sock drawer. Did you have it crumpled up in your wallet or something?

I made the mistake of preordering Grand Theft Auto V before the special editions were announced.

I'm going to wait for Rockstar to announce the Red Dead Redemption 2 special editions and then preorder...

I don't know why everyone was so surprised when R* delayed RDR 2. Did people really think a game that big would be completed this year? And since when is R* ever on time with a release?

Only hoped it would. I was encouraged enough to pre-order a PS4 Pro the day RDR2 was announced but there it sits, waiting.

A lot of people were confident they could make the Fall 2017 release date because RDR2 was announced way later into its development cycle... Unlike GTA V which was clearly announced way earlier in its development cycle.

I'm pretty sure there was a lot of things to hint at the fact that RDR2 was announced later into its development cycle. I've seen this discussed a few times.

Regardless of that being true or not, from the discussion I saw in this forum, I know people were more confident that RDR2 would meet its Fall 2017 release because they believed it was announced closer to its development cycle.

Short term memory? You were around when all the LinkedIn investigations in the RDR2 rumour mill iirc. There were people working on an "unannounced project" from R* (before RDR2 was released) as far back as 2012/2013. Some of those edited that to say RDR2 after its announcement. That's 3-4 years between that to announcement. Meanwhile, GTA V had its first significant builds in 2010 (builds.xml from PS3 version) and was announced in 2011.

Also, I think the delay might have had to do with the SAG-AFTRA voice actor union strike too. Take-Two was listed as affected in one of the documents released when it began.

We know GTA V was announced early in hindsight, we didn't really have knowledge on it during the droughts if my memory serves. We have a surprising amount of information (nods on the Newswire, leaks, portfolios, etc) that RDR2 had already been in the works for a long time, combined that with the fact it's been 4 years since GTA V's launch there was a lot of confidence around this forum in particular that RDR2 wouldn't be delayed.

And yet it was delayed and I wouldn't even rule out it being delayed further into Summer 2018.

Anyways, the month of September should be interesting. There should be news for sure, I believe in :r*:

Please let there be light this month. Why the hell would we have to wait til September? Just give me 7 more screens. I could live with that for a month.

One screenshot a week all the way till release would not hurt anyone?

Well that's what is going to happen once marketing starts. Remember when we were getting flooded with V screens?

Just my wild guess. Rockstar will tease an announcement late September/ early October. Then, GameInformer will reveal their RDR2 cover story for November. From then on we'll get our (almost) weekly Red Dead fix till Spring 2018. Pretty similar to the GTA V marketing late 2012.

Well, looks like this thread is becoming the General Chat a little bit. So as to keep this as history of our reactions to the delay, let's continue the conversation there as we usually do. :)
