Chris Cornell, former Soundgarden and Audioslave singer, dies aged 52

Shocking news to wake up to, considering it was such an unexpected death. The news link I've posted will probably update as more information is revealed but there may well be other sources updated through the day.

Another sad aspect is that Soundgarden were currently on tour too. Cornell's last update on Twitter was a picture of the venue in Detroit he played last night. That was about 8 hours ago. There were people replying saying they couldn't wait to see him on Saturday or whenever the band were next due in their city. Cruel stuff.

Just woke up to this terrible news. It's hard to fathom since he seemed like he had been doing really well as of late and both him and his band looked to be in a really good place.

This is god damn awful.

The current reports of how he went are equally, if not more, terrible.

One of the BEST voices in rock (along with Staley).

Why is it always the talented folks that leave us too soon?

So sad. WHAT!? and I almost went to this show but we'd already spent a ton of money on Metallica's show coming to Detroit in July. Now I wish we'd just splurged and gone to this one too.

Spent my teenage years listening to Soundgarden and Temple of the Dog. RIP Chris Cornell.

Woke up to the news this morning, I'm absolutely gutted. I first stumbled across his work with Audioslave years ago and he quickly became my favourite vocalist alongside Corey Taylor. Rest In Peace Chris.

This f*cking sucks.

I remember swiping my older brother's copy of Superunknown in '94 or '95 and listening to Spoonman on repeat.

Look at all the famous artists & musicians throughout history that have had problems. Seems to be a thing with creative people, maybe?

sure I'm not ignorant of this statistic.

doesn't change the fact that it's retarded.

you got all the money and friends and family and resources in the world + and the adoration of strangers + the immense success of your talent which can take you anywhere and allow you to access almost anything; the kind of privilege that the rest of us can only dream of. you should be the last person to kill yourself. I understand that everyone's problems are relative but ordinary people struggle every day with zero recognition, much less money and resources, and often without the support of friends or family and they still carry on and hold it together. barring extreme circumstances, suicide is the definition of selfishness for a good reason.

this is just me speaking in general.

I don't know anything about Chris Cornell's personal situation, but people who kill themselves [in his position] better have a really good f/cking reason...

He and Layne... Their voices were not of this earth. Very sad news. RIP Chris!

One of my all time favourites. 1:24 - 2:14 is just pure enjoyment.

I was never really into Audioslave or Soundgarden much, but I always liked Chris' style and vocal work on a lot of their songs. Sad to see someone talented like him go out the way he did.

I just think many super-creative-talented people are "wired" differently than us ordinary folks.

F*ck! When I saw it today, first I thought it was a joke. I love Soundgarden and grunge music, can't believe he's gone and apparently he hanged himself.

Yesterday I was at a Papa Roach listening party, and when Jacoby was asked why he still sings about depression and all that. He stated that one of the reasons is people and their struggles, and mental health problems some of them have. Also said that money and fame doesn't change anything, people still have their issues and personal demons. Chris apparently was hiding his problems very well, the show ended with "In my time of dying", later he was gone...

RIP Chris, you will be missed

I found out about his untimely death while watching Jimmy Kimmel as he had Linkin Park on as a musical guest and they played a song to commemorate Chris. They had played a real nice song in memory of him. The news itself almost brought me to tears because I've always enjoyed Chris's music ever since I was a kid. He, like many other musicians, were a part of my childhood as well as helped me overcome some dark times in my life.

He was great in Temple of The Dog. He was great in Soundgarden and in Audioslave too. He even did a cover of one of Prince's songs after Prince passed away last year as a fitting tribute to Prince.

The guy was a phenomenal singer, musician, and a genuine likable person.

The way he left this world, just goes to show you that no matter how rich or poor nor how famous or unknown you are, depression doesn't care about those things. It doesn't discriminate and if it wants you, it will find a way to take hold of you and bring you down. It will slowly destroy you as it is nearly impossible to get rid of once it runs so deeply into your very being. I don't wish for anyone to experience depression as it is the worst thing that you could ever experience in the universe. It sucks and I know what it's like to be in that dark void that depression puts you in.

The whole world is feeling the impact of Chris Cornell's passing and we all miss him and I hope that he is at peace now.
