rendition1.img.jpgIt's official now, I guess.

A few days ago, EA released this image and this article talking about the next Need for Speed game, and that we will be playing it by the end of this year.

They also released this image and a GIF on their social media, showing possibly a desert-y setting. Note the sign that says 'June 2nd'. Also, possible day/night cycle?

Let the hype begin...

Looks nice. I'm sure June 2nd will be the date that will reveal more about this game. I've read that there's no online-only requirement. If that's true, then I'm not surprised. Also, I hope the selection of cars is better than in the 2015 game. Some of the iconic cars are glaringly missing in that game, like the Nissan 350Z, the 370Z, the Mazda RX-8, and so on. Not saying that there weren't any good cars, there are lots of great choices, but strange omissions aswell. I'd be happy if they bring back the Chevy Cobalt SS and the Alfa Romeo Brera in the 2017 version. Also, better car customization, similar to Need for Speed: Underground 2.

Also, I've once saw a picture of this new Need for Speed game on the PS Store, rumored to be "Need for Speed: Underground", but it was clearly fake.

Looks like us fans of racing/car games are going to be spoiled this year between The Crew 2, Need For Speed 17 and whatever Forza is going to be announced if it is.

From the teaser screenshot, I'm guessing it's going to be Nevada or maybe a fictional section of Texas?

We can already see a 350Z on the screenshot, so that's back, at least.

Probably Nevada/Arizona assuming they stick to the United States. I haven't played a NFS game in forever, so I'm not even aware of what settings they've already done.

Yeah they did LA again for the last one. So maybe Vegas this time? Downtown/financial area was just backdrop really and they might do the same if it's in Vegas. I'm guessing they could do Houston or Dallas. Can't remember which one of those cities in Texas it was but actually made for good racing in The Crew.

And yeah, my bet is USA as 'Motel' is more of a U.S. word.

The motel sign does fit a Vegas setting.

I wish NFS would go back to the Police v You i stopped playing once they stopped making it all about getting away from the police and more about racing.

There are enough "Racing" games i wish they'd go back to their roots in my opinion NFS Most Wanted & Hot Pursuit were my favorite

I feel like it's gonna be something similar to MW2005 with some Underground/NFS2015 like stuff. People are thinking NFS2017 is likely set in Nevada or Texas, but it also gives me some Arizona vibe. Dunno why.

The last NFS I played was Underground 2. So almost anything they do with NFS2017 will be new to me.

Well this is good news, I was wondering when they would launch a new one again.

The 2015 reboot was pretty nice, platinumed it and everything (first and only NFS I platinumed) and it was good for a one time story playthrough.

Never really saw any reason to come back to it after I finished the story, besides picking up the remaining trophies. Hopefully this next one has a bit more of replay value.

Really glad to hear the always online nonsense is gone, that was one of my biggest gripes with the last game.

I think this could be Nevada and Vegas inspired too. Stepping outside the city into the desert makes potential for a huge map and diversity in races. Also, San Andreas vibes.

The last NFS I played was Underground 2. So almost anything they do with NFS2017 will be new to me.

Most Wanted and Carbon (the following two games in the series) were pretty decent and widely praised even to this day (though performance wise they're worse than the UG games). The series kinda lost its direction after that. Criterion\Ghost Games transformed this series into a not so enjoyable arcade racer (even more arcade than before) and sadly this was so successful that they will keep releasing crappy games for a while.

NFS 2015 wasn't that bad except for the usual problems with NFS games (such as terrible AI) and the story was kinda cringey.

Edit: I think it's worth playing the original MW and Carbon just for the M3 GTR. Apparently they pretty much nailed the sound of the real car, especially in Carbon.

The story was cheesy, there were more monster energy commercials than I could handle and the antagonists shown on cover were very underdeveloped but at least there was a story and the main cast kinda grew on me. We didn't have a halfway decent story since carbon so it was a step in the right direction.

I wish for the next game that they put some sexy chick on cover and she appears throughout the story a lot, for old time's sake.

As long as it is not online only thing I will indeed buy The Crew and NFS 2017. I hope they understand that there isn't really a pause menu tbh. I can't really pause the game in NFS Rivals and I heard that you can't really do that either in NFS 2015. Small complaint, but makes a big difference.

Nvm I guess my hopes are up, hopefully online requirement is true. Same goes for The Crew 2. Oh man we are gonna get bombarded with new racing games at the end of the year and Q1 2018. This is gonna be good (hopefully).

Anyways I am getting this weird NFS Most Wanted vibe from this picture. You guys think they are either gonna do something totally different or will it be almost like a successor to Most Wanted? Also I wondered what happened with Criterion Games. They are the biggest mystery to me with EA Corp ever since Ghost Games is working with the NFS series.

Sweet. Hopefully still has that dope photo mode, the only saving grace for NFS 2015 imo.

Desert location would be great, especially after the permanent night and rain of 2015.

Speaking of which, a dynamic weather and day/night cycle would be neat. One major flaw of 2015 was weather efffects locked to certain locations. There was one area in the game that immediately switched to day once you entered it. It felt forced and weird.

Image of a very foggy skyline. Note that there's something like a space needle and a building with 3 sides. Personally, I think it looks a lot like Las Vegas' Skyline:

Spoiler

Also, it looks like day time. with cloudy weather, so maybe day/night cycle and random weather?

I haven't played a NFS game in so long. Last one I completed was Underground 2 like seven years ago. The 2015 game looked promising, but I've heard a lot of sh*t about it after the release.

I'm glad that EA doesn't hold exclusive rights for the Porsche brand anymore. Porsches deserve to be in actual racing games, not just some edgy, three hour long energy drink commercial with cheesy characters and clichés everywhere.

yeah odds are Vegas over Seattle.

the former being much 'shorter' and more spread out, the latter being much taller and more condensed.

Could be a mixture of both Seattle and Vegas. Remember that most NFS games take place in fictional cities.

Hope it stays that way, I want to use my Bayview license plate in this game as well!

My best bet is that it's either a placeholder or a leftover from NFS 2015, they'll probably change this eventually.

Or NFS2017 is gonna be set in a (somewhat) purely fictional city that takes major influences from Seattle and Las Vegas, and is located in California, because NEVER MIND THERE ARE 49 MORE STATES IN THE UNITED STATES, WE WILL PUT IT INTO CALIFORNIA, BECAUSE WANT TO BE 9023094TH DRIVING VIDEO GAME SET IN CALI.
