Far Cry in the wild west? I think this one would be kicked out the door as quickly as possible before RDR2 comes out.

I thought the new FC was based in modern day Montana against a millita?

Far Cry 5 has been officially announced. But I don't think any details. Other than it will release this fiscal year.

Having my hopes up they won't ram the franchise into the ground. Never played Primal but I guess it's OK for a spinoff. Wild west could be a decent setting but really in a far cry game? I'd rather see some crazy modern day location with a crazy psychopath as an antagonist and drugs everywhere. Wild West could restrict the game too much.

If Far Cry 5 is set in the wild west I'll probably have to buy it. I wanted an open world wild west FPS for years.

If Far Cry 5 is set in the wild west I'll probably have to buy it. I wanted an open world wild west FPS for years.

Notice how the logo is "cleaned up" compared to the other Far Cry logos, not having a blood-red numeral, and lacking the cracks and tears of the older games' logos. This is a very large hint to what the game's setting could be. The changes to the logo could imply that the game will be set in a possibly urbanized, first world area, unlike the poor, dangerous, third world, settings of the last games, minus FC Primal and FC1

far-cry-5-logo.jpg

There have been rumors going around that FC5 will be a Spaghetti Western, Wild West-esque game set in Montana during the 1800s. If that is so, it would kill my interest in it.

First, it would turn the game into an RDR clone, which will also turn it into a competitor against RDR 2 and make me not buy it.

Second, and most importantly, the setting of the game (cowboys and horses, etc), which is familiar to Americans and Europeans, would sharply contrast the themes of the overall franchise, ordinary mens' descent into savagery and insanity, despotism and violence in poor countries, I really don't see how they could fit those thematic elements into FC5 if it turns out to be a Spaghetti Western, RDR-type game. Basically, it would nullify the game's title, "Far Cry", as the American Frontier/ Wild West, was arguably more sane, free, civilized, orderly, and stable than the failed states/ territories that FC2, FC3, and FC4 take place in. Additionally, Spaghetti Western movies tend to be relatively formulaic and light-hearted, which furthers my argument.

Lastly, one of the best parts about the Far Cry games is the weapons and the vehicles. Pistols, shotguns, SMGs, assault rifles, flamethrowers, flare guns, bows, machine guns, RPGs, and everything in between. Hovercraft, dune buggies, ATV's, gyrocopters, gliders, vans, trucks, coupes, trucks, and so on.  Basically your typical FPS guns but it was good nonetheless. If FC5 does indeed turn out to be a RDR-type game, the weapon selection will be limited to revolvers, carbines, rifles, bows and other weapons from the period. No portable automatic weapons, although they may throw in a Civil-War era Gatling Gun to compensate. Vehicles would be limited to various breeds of horses, and the various types of wagons/carts pulled by them.

I've been a loyal fan to the Far Cry series since the very start but i think if they do a Wild West themed one i would skip it, Because to me it seems like Ubisoft knowing that R* is releasing RDR2 this year did a Wild West themed game to try and compete and we all know how that ends for Ubisoft.

But if they do made it a Modern Day game i will gladly put my money down for it.

The logo is probably just a first draft of the final logo

When FC4 was announced in March 2014, it's logo was the final version.

Regarding the game, there are rumors saying it may also be a modern-day game set in Montana, where you play as a cop fighting against some sort of paramilitary group that has taken over a large area of the state. Additionally, the design of the logo may hint slightly at that, as there is a subtle blue and red gradient under "Far Cry" and "5", respectively which are the colors of a police siren.

I would totally be fine with FC5 if it was that, a stand against a paramilitary group in modern day Montana. It may demonstrate that the themes of the series is not limited exclusively to lawless, third world territories/nations. Hopefully the game includes flyable planes, motorcycles, portable miniguns, and a scale recreation of Billings.

So for E3, I am really hyped for Super Mario Odyssey, RDR 2, and FC5...

I don't get it. If Far Cry 5 turns out to be a good western game why does it matter if RDR2 is coming out? there is a severe lack of Wild West games; the more the merrier I say.

Aye, just like if Gun 2 would come out, would you not play RDR 2 anymore because it would be the inferior game (which would be objectively correct)?

The Far Cry rumour is that it's set in modern day Montana and you play as a cop. The Wild West rumour came from a survey Ubi sent out a few years back, the live-action trailer shooting that brought it into the spotlight a few weeks ago before it was officially announced never specified it was a Wild West game.

Apart from some surprises, i expect some single player dlc for DOOM only, such a shame they spent so much energy on some useless mp dlcs yet completely ignoring sp, GTA case comes to mind, though not on such a scale.

Could be a mistake, likely foreshadowing Sony's answer to the Scorpio.

Slightly beefier PS4PRO by Microsoft pretty much. The whole hype is over exaggerated. Only if they can come up with some very exciting exclusives + interesting pricerange I think the Scorpio could be a viable enough option. Other than that no reason to upgrade.

I do understand why they release Slim versions of consoles but why people want to buy slighlty upgraded versions, even though they already own basically the same console is beyond me. I know I'll rather wait for the PS5 or Xbox 2. It just seems like a cash grab to me. After playing a couple of times on a upgraded console, I doubt the new "wow" effect will last long.

I still play on my old PS4 and don't plan to buy either a pro, neither slim or an xbox until it dies.

So recent leak on Reddit suggest Jim Jones type of cult setting. Imo it's more interesting than wild west or militias.

I'm looking forward to Bethesda's conference on June 11th. We know they're going to release two new IP's before the next Elder Scrolls game. One of them could be another open-world RPG in space?

Maybe a new Fallout game using the same engine as FO4 will be announced? Think New Vegas, which used FO3's engine.

Like Saints Row but with less gameplay and content?
