Hi everybody!

Recently I got into an argument on IGCD about the Landstalker. I think it's most likely based on the Jeep Grand Cherokee (WJ). I think it would make sense, as it was partially based on a Jeep in Vice City, San Andreas and Vice City Stories. And also, the script implies that it's a Jeep: It refers to the Landstalker as 4X4, and in GTA 1 the 4X4 was a Wrangler.

The script: http://gtamodding.ru/wiki/Kenji#kenji2(scroll down to the "end of the custscene" part)

However, if you look at the page, you can see that only a few people agreed with me, despite the comparison pictures:

So, I would like to hear your opinions: which SUV is the Landstalker based on?

You'll have more answers if you bring some pics of the various models.

It's an original vehicle, so probably takes influence from quite a few SUVs. Don't even try to draw continuity comparisons using "4x4", that's a very standard term for an SUV. It resembles the Toyota Rav4 a little from the back, and it shares a similar size.

You should be asking for general comparisons, not a "yep, it's definitely based on a Jeep". Being that Mr. Kurowski was credited for only vehicles and was brought back for a second round in the same role, personally I believe he didn't have five example pictures of vehicles open in different windows while creating them. It all probably just flowed from his mind. Anybody with 3D modeling skills could probably create vehicle mashups, that's why GTA vehicles are a cut above the rest.

Yeah its not meant to be based off one car. Looks a bit like the CR-V, Rav4, and Cherokee, its name is a take off of Land Rover, and has Honda wheels. Rolls over like an ford transit as well.

Well, it's obviously not a 100% Grand Cherokee (different grille, spare tire, etc.) but most of the vehicles were identified correctly in the GTA series, despite they aren't based on a single vehicle. So I doubt that it isn't based on anything.

Rule of thumb: it's a *insert vehicle type here* that takes design cues from a billion different vehicles. The end.

Lol, ask universetwisters.  He drives the sh*tstalker in real life :D :p

I dunno what you folks are talking about. I love the Landstalker. It's just like what I drive in real life. Stop complaining about it just because you can't drive it. Learn how to use the handbrake and watch where you're going. There's no reason to hate it just because it isn't as durable as a Tonka toy.
