I think yes R* doesn't care about story mode since they found out that GTA online is more profitable than story mode. And they also said in an interview back in 2015 that he said that GTA is now online focused and that every single employee that was working on GTA 5 offline would now be working on GTA online. And sadly, that also meant that there will be no more story DLCs. So, no.

Of course R* still cares about story mode and such, but they already made an amazing story for GTA V but now they're focusing on GTA Online to keep people playing the game.

It has been a real success for them, I'd be very surprised it it was not included in future GTA games.

I actually don't care. Of course, a great story is what gives us the best representation of the game, but honestly who played GTA for the story? I want big immersive maps with lots to do and heaps of side quests. If I get that as a byproduct of GTA Online, then that's OK.

Personally I don't like the idea of leaving a lot of the focus to GTA Online though. It seems that by the years, Rockstar is looking more and more like a sell out. Remember those Shark cards that you could buy? It was essentially a micro-transaction. I hope that's the extent of it. I'd hate to see a GTA Match-Three puzzle game. The thought of it makes me want to kill myself.

I doubt it, Online is a cash cow, it's R* special baby and they won't scrap it because we all miss a proper SP game, they're making loads of money off the kids who play it, you think they give a sh*t?

An Online mode is going to be there of course, but I really hope that Rockstar makes a much better effort, and care with the SP aspect of GTA Next. Rockstar definitely has the ability to create amazing worlds, with incredible and immersive stories set in those worlds, but they decide to focus more on the Online aspect, which is a shame. Hopefully they deliver on creating a great single player experience, but that certainty is a matter of doubt at the moment.

No way. Rockstar will release another basic single player game and then focus mainly on online gameplay. Big shame.

I would forgive R* for all the things wrong with GTAO, but I can't...because half of the content in the game is Online exclusive.

OT: No way, as much as I want another story-only game, R* are keeping with the times and making money with online instead. If microtransactions work with COD, why not GTA?

The IV trilogy and Chinatown Wars are pretty much the last we'll ever see for GTA games that were single-player focused. Heck, there's probably a good chance that one day (maybe not VI)

that story mode might get scrapped altogether in favour of multiplayer. I'd say that this isn't so much a Rockstar thing, but more Take 2. The Housers have a boss to answer up to, too.

Instant gratification is the name of the game, and if eliminating elements that make games worth playing is the cheat code being used, then no wonder we feel cheated.

It just ain't a pretty sight, at least not since Day 1 of Online.

I think the  whole idea of separating online from offline needs to come to a close and Rockstar should at some point work on combining the two. Create a story mode that is designed for the player to complete by themselves if they chose to do that, or they could do the same story mode with up to 10 other random people or friends.

I would rather there was no online mode and they spent 100% of their time and resources making the biggest and best single player mode possible.

Not gonna happen though.

At this point this is a good point to argument around.

I hope they now realize to split the GTA in two parts. Storymode "episodes" and Online mode. Some of the things would be shared, like map and some buildings, even characters.

I would like SP be the main focus. Here's how.

Large singleplayer story with 4/5 large purchasable DLC's over 3/4 years, 2 DLCs can be story and the rest Assassination missions, car packs, weapons, clothes etc. What the DLC's adds to SP gets added to Online. Rockstar seemed to butcher SP in V because updates came to Online and not SP. So, I think the proper way to do it is not to get rid of Online or anything but to make sure that SP gets the update. That's the priority but whatever goes to SP goes to MP.  I know that's easier said than done. I'm not a programmer but I think it's a clean, simple resolution to the player.

Like CD Projekt Red did was cool. They released main game (The Witcher 3) and some free DLC and two large SP DLC packs.

I miss the days when MP was an added bonus to the main game. Imagine for GTA VI, you get excited for SP story  DLC and then you know whatever guns and cars they added will show up in MP, maybe with few extra Online modes. But yeah the DLC will always entice you to play in SP first then MP (for story DLC at least).

None of these crappy small updates where they add a few haircuts and overpriced cars. I'm taking good DLC where you might get 20 new cars, 40-50 new items of clothing, new paint jobs, updated radio and storyline missions. Stuff that will keep you going for a few months until the next release.

Well, there's one problem with that approach. If everything is readily available in SP, who will buy it in online (atleast that's what's concerning R*)

But yeah. Either make the story able to be played in both SP and Online, or release the story as DLC's. Those are the middle roads I see.

GTA will never be a single player or multiplayer game only. It will always have both. However, the idea of SP-only story might change with time and we might see new ideas implemented in this side. Think of how SP and MP could be merged in one mode and your character lives in both worlds at the same time. You do story missions now and next you find yourself jumping straight into a team deathmatch. GTAO is only the beginning.

But yeah. Either make the story able to be played in both SP and Online, or release the story as DLC's. Those are the middle roads I see.

Well, my idea is that instead of free DLC, everyone pays for quality, sizable DLC: "4/5 large purchasable DLC's over 3/4 years". I would be willing do that but my principles and stubbornness forbid me to buy a shark card. I don't want to support shark card culture.

Give me a quality product and I'll pay for it. And I'll do it a few times. When you eliminate shark-cards they may be able to adjust the prices to look realistic. They may also be able to have the online casino because nobody is using real money to buy cards. Any super cars, rare items, expensive properties etc are all purchased from people playing the game over time and not by shark cards. The guy with the most properties and  expensive cars is the guy that's put in time and effort. Not a hacker or a someone with a credit card but a fan of GTA.

With paid for DLC, everyone starts off with the same opportunity (so long as you an afford the DLC). Anything you acquire in-game is through player skill and dedication.

Also, that way, those that want a Online, or MP to continue will have to support it via their wallets by buying the DLC and singe-player isn't neglected.  If you want to update your SP experience buy the DLC. Since you bought the DLC for SP you may as well try it in MP.

Instead of it's all free but it's a profit machine so we're going to abandon single player and give you lots and lots of small DLC so you keep coming back and we'll keep the prices high so you'll buy shark cards. If you don't buy shark cards, prepare to grind. It's a mess. I played Online recently after missing about 2/3 updates. I really enjoyed some of the stuff I've seen. Online could be so great if they ditched the shark-cards, release DLC less regularly but with larger DLC that's guaranteed to make it in SP

Well, if I was to create the system, there would be Story, RPG and Online lobbies.

Story would replace singleplayer and it would include storymode. Story would only be open for up to 4 players, just like heists are, to make the story-based game flow better (like there was 3 protagonists in GTAV). You could earn GTA$ there too. Some missions would be enabled in "Online" too.

Story would be split up in episodes, essentially paid DLC's. Completing those would give you ability to get some exclusive vehicles, clothes, missions and maybe even weapons in Online for free. Otherwise some of those would cost you some GTA$, while others are unobtainable.

RPG lobbies would allow the host to add mods and decide the rules of the server. However, the GTA$ would be disabled there(it's a modable server). Also free DLC vehicles, weapons and costumes wouldn't be added here. These lobbies would be perfect for roleplaying purposes, as the name suggest. R* would open workshop and start revenue share program (for mod vehicles/clothes to be added as paid packs to Online) along with other co-operations with the most popular RPG communities.

Online would be pretty much the same as now. paid Story DLC's would add new content, though.

But my basic rule: You shouldn't get advantage in freemode by paying, and to keep the casual gamers playing, some content updates need to be free.

Never thought about it before.  Maybe they will just do 2 arcs now.  GTA:O continues as is and when VI launches it'll update it's map etc.  So they'll have new GTA's every whatever years and GTA:O progresses alongside...

Not a bad idea as long as having four players is not a requirement to play the story mode.

Too late for thinking like that. I'm pretty sure the next GTA will have similar SP/Online focus ratio like V had.
