We strive to keep it as original as possible , so things like cars and such are a bit awkward :p  , so the paths and trails will stay the same.

Can't imagine driving car around the 1911 RDR landscape. Gorgeous, guys, really intrigued by your project.
Maybe the good idea is using Delorean model to reach feeling like you are around BTF3...

Driving with a bike on it was relaxing and peaceful. If someone made a remake of the back to the future western part of movie that be fantastic to see remade.

I think motorcycles especially choppers from TLAD and offroad cars would be fun to drive around the map.

Another just crazy idea is map remade up to the 1940th or 1950th.

Oh, this is kind of deep fantasy area... When urbanism has already come to the former Wild West.

 

Here we could see...

 

Blackwater City (a large megapolis around whole area up to the Tall Trees)

Armadillo town (connected with Blackwater by modern highway)

National Museum of Fort Mercer

... your ideas?

 

And Jack is still alive and can still own Beacher Hope ranch (which is now surrounded by another ranches), maybe just partly rebuilt it.

 

Hope community will deeply take hands on RDR map and introduce much different ideas, as map will be easy accessible.

I don't think Blackwater would be a metropolis. If anything, it'd probably be the same but with some suburban developments on its outskirts.

As John said, automobile is nothing near horse.

 

Btw, accessing Ross's and Fordham's car can be great idea.

-Retexture trails and change their materials into paved roads.

-Add lamp posts.

-Remodel some buildings to modern form.

-Add mountains on the edges of the map so it doesn't look like it is floating.

-Add fence/giant wall at the US/Mexican border, with security checkpoints, and hidden tunnels underneath. (This could make for people to create interesting smuggling missions in DYOM for Trevor.)

itwill look hillarious trying to ride a horse i would not recommend implementing horse riding horses yes but riding them not worth it

Let them just convert the base map first. Once that's done, we can talk about improvements or alterations.

While the map is being worked on, I am preparing some scripts for later implementation in RDR V to make the gameplay feel and look like Red Dead Redemption ;)

The horses mod shouldn't just be for RDRV but regular GTA V as well.

It would be sweet if they spawned at the horce racing track and the ranch and we can ride them.

There's few idea's and such planned. Map is main focus and other things will be done. We are aiming for highest quality mod here. We trying to make it exactly like RDR in every way.

Yeah some ideas are going WAY over here, let these guys focus on getting the map in there, using the better render techniques and features and maybe spawn a few bikes/off road vehicles and that alone will satisfy a lot of people AND let people explore the map in a different way.

Flawlessly awesome. I've been waiting years to see this happen. Was expecting a San Andreas or GTA IV Port but V seems like just the perfect engine to use. I'll keep an eye on this topic regularly. Seems like years of hard work from you both. I need to start modding GTA V again. I guess I just got the perfect reason to.

Regardless, I'm glad, never bought RDR, thought it too old to buy. I only started really playing games in 2010. Fantastic work, keep it up!

But obviously with improvements to use graphical features that V has? I did see parallax mapping in there. It would look great with RDR's map.

 

Also, doesn't RDR and GTA V have a lot of the same animals? It would be neat if they had the fur effect that the GTA V animals do (if the fur is longer that is, as it wouldn't look right on the horses).

 

However, I'm wondering, is the map ready for any up close screenshots? I'd like to see some screens of known locale like MacFarlane Ranch, Armadillo, Marston Ranch, and Blackwater.

It's not just any simple map. It's going to try and replicate Red Dead Redemption as much as it can in the full release with unique characters, weapons, animations, scripts, etc from RDR. This is of course going to be most likely implemented after the map is finalized. There won't be any of GTA V's map left. An example is the bounty system that I am rewriting for the mod, it won't be wanted stars anymore and cops chasing you around in cars, a posse of lawmen will round up in horses and chase you instead.

Yeah and we've also not seen any project that huge before on V, nor even IV, so expectations wise, I'm saying people should expect the map to be actually released and playable. It's easy to dream big but projects like this would require a sh*t load of time and effort to maintain afterwards and a lot of people just lose interest and move on.

Modding is about cooperation. As long as the authors and other modders agree to share their work between each other, it's not that impossible.

Although I can understand the difficulty of the process.

Imagining a perfect scenario where the team doesn't fight for bullsh*t such as pride or anything of sorts.

For me personally, I would be happy if the free roam element was at least there.

 

For example, the LCS/VCS Stories mod for GTA  VC. The LCS version practically has the free roam part in.

 

So basically:
-All of the map

-All transportation modes

-Protagonist

-Animations

-Weapons

-Peds

-etc...

 

Now when we get into mission territory, that is where things get dreamy.

Horses wouldn't look silly. The Ride a Deer mod doesn't look bad. All you really have to do is attach the player to the animal in a riding position, then control the animal. Not very hard to do. Personally, I'd rather ride around this map via horse, or in the car that was in RDR, or via driving the train. To be honest, the only semi modern car that I would drive around the RDR map in is the Back to the Future car. lol. But that would just be for sh*ts and giggles. I'd rather use a historically accurate mode of transportation.

 

Speaking of that, I do believe that in 1911, they did have bicycles. If I am correct and you decide to include them, they should be much less common. Not cruising around that is.

Q: Can I help develop this mod?
A: Sure! We are always open to expand our team. We are mostly looking for programmers who are able to help us reverse engineer the file formats. We are also looking for scripters who are able to remake any of the game's original content over to GTAV, think minigames and certain mechanics such as Dead Eye Targeting. If you have experience creating normal, specular and height maps, you are also welcome.
When possible, we will also need converters for Vehicles, characters and animals.


I wonder whether that kind of development is open or as closed as OpenIV. If it's open and you'll document everything you discover in some wiki (maybe on the mods website) it'd be great for the community. Also, will .WHITE be available for the public?

Q: What's the download size of this mod?
A; Aproximately 2GB.


Guys, watchout on that one. If I was in your position, I'd only offer a conversion tool like the guys from OpenIV plan to do, as that will prevent any legal issues. Offering copyrighted files (Red Dead Redemption files) won't be tolerated by GTA5-mods.com (I know that rappo cares A LOT about that) and Rockstar.

Nice approach, glad to see you managed to research most of the formats. Let's see how far this will go. I hope the competition will force the OpenIV guys to work faster and more efficiently on their tool (releasing .white to the public would force them even more I assume).

I'm pretty sure there was a time when Rockstar linked a III to IV conversion on their newswire. As long as it's just the map being converted, and has nothing to do with Online, they probably won't care.
