It won't even have 1/10 of the playerbase COD WW2 has.

...

I'd rather these big blockbuster games focus more on crafting a cohesive, lengthy, and challenging singleplayer campaign. you can still have multiplayer, but they rely too much on the online experience which is exactly why modern FPS feel so dumbed-down. they're all the same run-n-gun, bunny hopping, sniper camping, chaotic grindfest. there's nothing to distinguish all these new FPS games from each other except for the name on box.

and the fools will still line up to shell out 70, 80 and 90 dollars for the DIGITAL DELUXE COLLECTOR'S EDITION of this crap. kind of a sad state of affairs. in 3 months there will be a DLC package that they want another 30, 40 dollars for.

/end rant

Frankly this sounds like its coming from someone who doesn't play many FPS games online, if any. Is Battlefield 1 in any way similar experience to Advanced Warfare? is Advanced Warfare in the same alley as something like 2016's DOOM and is that game in the same vein as Overwatch or Battleborn?

There is a ton of variety on the market especially now. The days of a solitary brand of grey and brown shooters dominating the market are long gone.

frankly, you're wrong.

uh... yes.

they might look different on the surface, with some different bells and whistles, but the physical gameplay all boils down to the exact same feeling.

The days of a solitary brand of grey and brown shooters dominating the market are long gone.

you're right; they've done a better job of making new games more colorful and interesting to look at.

but the core gameplay mechanics haven't evolved in years. you can dress it up with new graphics but it's the same stale experience we've been spoonfed since CoD4 Modern Warfare. we've essentially been playing the same game since 2007 with slightly different skins and textures.

even Star Wars Battlefront fell victim to the Call of Duty / Battlefield formula.

doesn't mean the games can't be fun. but they're all basically the same game.

Is your criteria for being the ''same game'' the fact that you hold a gun and kill other players with said gun in competitive online? i'm sorry but I simply refuse to believe that anyone can play Overwatch and say they had the very same experience playing Advanced Warfare or Battlefield 1. Past belonging to the same genre each has completely different dynamic, feel, game modes and general style. Overwatch is a colorful, fast paced hero/character shooter while Battlefield 1 is deliberate, slower paced and grander in scope with big maps while Advanced Warfare is all about the twitchy corridor shoot outs. You might not be into online FPS which is fine but to call them all the same thing rings completely and utterly hollow.
