Can't get tuning to work for addon.

So I can't seem to get tuning mods to appear in LSC. The basic Lights, Wheels etc comes up, but the engine, transmission etc and visual mods don't appear. Kinda like when the IDs conflict but I checked and there's no other addon car with the same ID. Any ideas??

Nope, or at least 1969, 2017, 3840, 4028, 5120 don't work...

 

Using IDs above 255 is not only pointless, it will cause you no end of problems.

 

ModKitIDs are stored as an 8-bit value, 0 - 255, so when you enter a value such as 1969 (which is really 177), 2017 (which is really 225) or 3840 (which is 0 and that's never going to work) etc... there is a very high chance that two of those numbers will end up as the same value. For example:

 

81352186781 = 157
13469 = 157
2461 = 157

 

Would you have guessed that all those numbers were actually the same ID?

 

By default, I think there are only about 26 IDs that are available to use on addons, maybe slightly more, I can't remember exactly. Here's a link to an xls file (Excel spreadsheet) that shows the ID allocation to vanilla cars up to the current game version. https://drive.google...iew?usp=sharing

 

The red rows are IDs that haven't been assigned but not every one of those is available, some IDs might seem valid but will still fail. I think the highest ID I have seen assigned, is around 238. The ID your car actually gets in-game, is usually different to the one in the carcols.meta anyway.

 

So the first thing to do, is go through that excel sheet, find the potentially available IDs and assign them in your carcols. Assign them in order and put a comment at the top, that says <!-- Next Free Kit ID = ??? --> and update that every time you add a new car.

 

You only need to change the value in the second line here:

The value in the first line is just to create a unique reference value that carvariations can use to assign the correct ID. The number in that line doesn't need to match the "id value".

 

To give you the maximum chance of getting a valid ID though, you have three options, in increasing order of drastic consequence.

 

1) Change the <order value="36" /> in setup2.xml. That value can affect which vehicles get an ID. Rockstar packs currently end at 28 (mpsmuggler), mine start at 30. It's a bit hit and miss though, so doesn't gain massive returns.

 

2) Move all your carcols.meta values into carcols.ymt. carcols.ymt ID assignments have priority over carcols.meta, which is why the values in those files never overlap. The last ID in carcols.ymt is 76, so start yours at 77 and add them to the decrypted carcols.ymt file

 

3) You can do what I did and that's to go through every carcols file (ymt and meta), in every patch folder, and empty the <kits></kits> section in every file. That will give you access to pretty much every available ID in the game but every vanilla car will lose its tuning options. It depends on your priority. I don't care about vanilla cars, which is why I chose this option.

 

But my biggest suggestion, is get away from those IDs above 255. Convert them all to 8-bit values using the Windows calculator and use those real values instead. To do this, open the windows calculator and go into programmer mode. Enter your existing ID and then hit And, 255, followed by =, that will convert your ID to 8-bit.

 

Choose the option that gives you the best chance of getting a valid ID from the 3 I listed above. Assign your IDs and keep a log of which IDs are assigned to which vehicle. That will make it easy to guarantee that you will get one that works.

 

If you want to see what IDs are really being assigned in-game, paste this code into a .cs file, call it DisplayID.cs for example and put it in your scripts folder. Then compare what it says, compared to what the docs say.

I tried GET_VEHICLE_MOD_KIT in the past and when I saw ID's were different from the ones asigned in .xml I thought it was something else.
 
My question is why the game assign different ID ingame? I tried to see any correlation but haven't found any.

Thanks, LeeC2202 for reminding. I know that ID number doesn't matter but the overall modkit limit which is currently 256. Maybe another Rockstar update will resolve that issue.

I can't remember if it was Unknown_Modder or someone else, but one of the guys that digs into the memory stuff, discovered a LUT that had all the IDs assigned in there. So maybe the documentation ID simply relates to the position in that LUT, just to say to the game "This is a valid ID because it exists in the table at this location". Then when the game hands out an ID, it just picks a random ID between 0 and an upper limit, then assigns that to the spawned vehicle.

 

Maybe the order number works to some extent, as the addon gets its number into the LUT first, so claims that place.

 

Honestly, all I am doing is guessing though, some of the logic behind the game mechanics does leave me scratching my head sometimes. I think it's a system that has an unknown set of rules and the only way you get to win, is to break them all in the biggest way possible. :D I couldn't think of a much bigger way than the option I chose, deleting all the kits from vanilla vehicles is about as drastic as I think you can get... but I know for sure that every addon I install with tuning is going to work, so I will definitely take that win.
