Rockstar used to be the masters but they failed with GTA5, a game with so little content and mostly glossy filler i could quite happily flush it down the toilet.

Far as im concerned Rockstar reached its peek with GTAIV  one of the best if not the best open world games ever made

Thing that makes R* open worlds special is how organic they are, when you play other open worlds, the side activities in sandbox games are always feeling as if someone places a checkmark on a open world map, R* games manages to make them feel integrated into the worlds.

I don't really sure called it ''spoiled", rockstar defenately "monopolized" the genre called action-adventure-open-world-games
Sony announcer itself described it at e3 2007 as "Unbeatable"

Correction*

Sony announcer (himself) described it at e3 (2009) as ("unrivaled")... ;)

Sorry bro, my poor grammar skills and lacks of knowledege really bother you isn't it? Well, gta series wouldn't be the same without The Benz tho, the title "unrivaled" will be ended when gta 6 comes out..

Not even slightly

I can honestly say recent open-world Games like Mafia III & Wildlands, for instance, are brilliant open world experiences which I have put 100s of hours into, of course, they tend not to be as polished & have their shortcomings but they also have elements which one up Rockstar.

So basically, I adore Rockstar games, but that's not to say they are better than their peers in every single way & make other open-world games unplayable.

One of the big issues i have with non rockstar games is how they seem to be limiting compared to those r* titles and best example i can give is driving, in rockstar games not only your vehicles can land on their roof, other buildings roofs etc but you can get to almost everywhere, games like let's say saints row, mafia 3 or watch dogs have their kinks but they have those weird limiting thing that make me miss rockstar games, like again that organic feeling that lacks on so many other games
