Which GTA has impressed you with the effects of the weather that you've experienced and why?

Pls refer: The weather in the series for details on each type.

My favorite: GTA SA

III: Foggy weather, specifically in the Red Light District. Really makes LC feel like the worst place in America.

VC: Not really weather per se, but driving down the long road on the 2nd island towards Downtown at sunrise never gets old.

SA: Foggy weather specifically out in Back O' Beyond, and really sunny days out in Bone County (dunno why R* didn't use the heat haze effect in V), and similar to VC sunset in LS is always a magnificent sight. Love the orange.

IV: Foggy weather and cold days/nights, seeing Niko's breath is a small but much appreciated detail.

V: Rain, especially at night.

I'm most impressed with V's rain effects out of all of them, but if I were to pick the one that immerses me the most it would be III when the fog rolls in. That combined with the hustle and the bustle of the streets, trains and subway cars passing above and below, sounds reverberating off of seedy alley walls, etc. show how it was really ahead of it's time.

V obviously has the best potential for weather, but it's criminally underused. It barely ever rains; it's just sun all the time, sometimes slight overcast. And while the engine can cover the whole city in snow, it's never used in SP and only once a year in GTAO. So, meh.

IV and SA have great weather effects and the environment changes constantly. Between my PS2/PS3 versions IV obviously wins, can't really speak for SA on PC or the older games, I've not been caught in rain in those yet.

As a side note, why doesn't anybody else make the controller vibrate during a thunderstorm? Does R* have some patent for this or something?

I love the lightning strikes in V. Wish they happened more often.

I'm going to go with Vice City Stories. Vice City in 1984 is very pleasing to look at.

Rainstorms in Liberty City >>> Everything

Seriously, the sight of the wet LC asphalt and rain drops on the camera is probably one of my favorite things in the series.

And thunder storms in V, realistc puddle forming and it's pretty fun to fly in.

SA, IV and V have my favorite weather types

SA: Nostalgia kicks in, I remember how eerie and interesting foggy nights look in the countryside, foggy, rainy and cloudy days were also great.

IV and TBoGT: Cloudy and rainy days in IV still look kinda better and more aesthetically pleasing than V's cloudy and rainy days honestly (besides, people actually wear umbrellas). It gives the city a whole new fitting feel, people trying to escape from the rain, covering themselves with a newspaper, driving gets more challenging.

TBoGT's sunny days were an improvement and I really like them.

V: Despite what I mentioned, I do appreciate the rain at night, and I'm a total nerd for the thunderstorms with lightning outside LS, they're so f*cking awesome and intense. Although it bothers me to see rain in a sunny day, does that happen in LA? I just know it barely rains there.

Clear sky sunny days and sunsets are pretty good as well, fitting to the theme.

I found some of my old GTA IV PC screens. Note shadows are completely disabled on most of these screens since my VGA at the time couldn't handle them.

Beware, some may be depressing (for various reasons) to those who think GTA SA or V are the best.

BTW. I found screens from 4 playthroughs... How many time have I replayed this game already?! I honestly lost count.

i love the weather in 5. the lighting bolts are really cool. seeing the colourful lights at night with the rain is amazing. and sunsets are very beautiful, especially in places with a good view and palm trees. i only wish there were sandstorms from gta sa in the desert.

I voted San Andreas, Vice City Stories, and V for best weather. All 3 have amazing sunsets. The original orange sky backdrop for San Andreas is one of the most iconic looks for the series.

I appreciate a good fog. IV seems best.

V blew it. At certain times California coastal or highlands can get socked in with 15 foot(5meters) visibility...even freeways.

Edit- And it doesn't rain much In the desert, duh.

Mountain snow also should have been added.

Thought I'd might bring some life into this topic

Personally I really liked the different atmospheric weather types in GTA SA. The overwhelming sunlight in LS, LV and the desert and the colder/darker feeling in foggy SF and the countryside. In GTA 4 , I thought the atmosphere was always kind of the same. Ofcourse the rainstorms and their graphical effects were ok but nothing special in my opinion. In GTA 5 the weather and atmospheric effects are displayed in the most beautiful way. I love standing on top of the one of the tataviam mountains on the eastside of LS and watch the sun go down and the bright city lights turn on. Gives me goosebumps while I'm typing this.

The rain gta vc,4,5and snow from gta 5, love the way the rain looks in vice city like a hurricane is coming, really does look like real life new york city during a rain storm especially in star junction in gta 4, just the way the rain looks in gta 5 and the snow for north yankton looks fairly realistic
