Vice City. The atmosphere and the feel of the city and the gameplay are a perfect match and is something that I have yet to see replicated before or since.

As for which version of Vice City? The original for me. I really liked the neon that VCS had, but I dunno, the original Vice City just had "that thing, that magic".

I never really liked the neons in VCS to be honest. IMO it made everything look really cartoony and overly bright.

The gritty 80s look similar to what Scarface had looks so much better in the original.

To be fair, VCS has a more advanced Version of RenderWare. That helps improve the Graphics.

Apparently VCS uses Gamebryo instead of Renderware, which was in EA hands at that time. San Andreas was the last R* game using Renderware.

Tough choice, but I vote for Liberty City for introducing me to the amazing world that Rockstar had started. It sucked me in and I loved every moment of it, even down to exploiting glitches and flying the dodo on to hard to reach places.

Man, I even remember people would set up GeoCities websites at the time, showcasing their remarkable feats with the dodo, glitches and achieving other crazy stunts in the game. For what it was, there was so much to do.

Insane jump stunts on the elevated train tracks, flying with the tank, reaching Donald Love's building rooftop, ghost town, the blocked off tunnel, etc. Ugh, sooo much in such a little city, but it was incredibly vast back then.

I love the atmosphere from Los Santos (SA), is the most detailed city of the game and the PS2 color filter makes it magical. Second is Vice City (VC) and then Liberty City (GTA III). Every city has his own magic feeling.

Apparently VCS uses Gamebryo instead of Renderware, which was in EA hands at that time. San Andreas was the last R* game using Renderware.

Where'd you get that from? Vice City Stories isn't listed as a Gamebryo title on either the Gamebryo website or Wikipedia. Plus, I doubt VCS assets would have made it's way to other GTAs as mods if it wasn't renderware.

Nothing is certain here, but there was some kind of debate long time ago on GTAF, where one of the members, judging by the format file, proved it was modified Gamebryo engine. However internet states differently, that R* actually used in-house engine. Some people are even trying to prove it was RAGE, despite the fact that first game using it was Table Tennis and it took 2 years since 2004 to actually make it.

What we know for sure is that R* couldn't use Renderware, as EA blocked its external use by acquiring the Criterion (which made the engine in the first place). San Andreas was licensed before the acquisition of Criterion, thus it was finished on Renderware. And we do know that despite the fact that Bully was made on the same engine as well, The Scholarship Edition of the game was using Gamebryo (and had the same assets as the original game).

Los Santos was a nice balance between the glitz and the ghetto, although for me it's tied with Las Venturas. The strip at night looks amazing, take a steady drive down the road into Bone County or Tierra Robada and you have an (almost) peaceful countryside. Plus there's the military base and airstrip which I've had many fun memories of while playing samp rp servers.

Vice city was the best city. Ya it's quite small, but personally in my opinion I liked it and I hope they bring it back in a future gta.

San Fierro and Liberty City.

Los Santos was too ghetto for me to like it. The downtown really sucked, and highways were poorly placed (an elevated highway went right through the center of downtown) and the textures were really ugly.

Las Venturas. I really like the casino and lights on strip. Also being only GTA city surrounded by desert with canyons (even 12 years later...) big plus.

After that probably Liberty City. It is small, but have real gloomy grey feel. It go good with 2001 feel...

Vice City because of its structure and all, also had so many references to many classic TV shows and movies , but i also like Vice City Stories because its the same city , but also takes place 3 years before Vice City.

I still stand by Liberty City, though VC and the entire state of San Andreas were spectacular as well.

Las Venturas

The glitz and glamor of Las Venturas is just unmatched in any GTA 3D or HD from the fast cars to the fancy clothes from the casinos to the hotels nothing can beat Las Venturas

San Fierro in San Andreas and GTA 3 Liberty City. The only cities from modern and the other past games are great too but I relate more to these cities from my own experiences. Just the setting and the people reminds me some what of my hometown.

Voted Los Santos because of the fun killings with jumping Linerunners from Richman to Vinewood, riots and gang antics.

By the way a good way to tease the next GTA, would be releasing a GTA Online of the 3D cities, all of them united by forests and some sea with online for 40 players.

And no I'm not interested in f*cking mods, I want Rockstar to do it.

Liberty City in GTA 3's got my vote. It just feels so dark and mysterious, especially Portland.

Las Venturas for its visible industrial and financial activity, big small town feeling, casinos(!) and the looping freeway of death.

From 03:00 - 10:00 I prefer San Fierro; foggy mornings in SF are great.

Its just got to be San Fierro for me. I still enjoy playing GTA San Andreas from time to time and this city just has this special feeling. Indeed, some parts of the city feel a little unfinished but the whole atmosphere compensates this fully. The scenery in the direct surroundings completes the image of San Fierro for me.

Tough choice but I'd say LS, SA.
