The game is fun, I can't stop playing.

It starts out a bit slow with boring characters, but get's better as you unlock stuff.

It's linear in how the enemy lairs are set up, go to next room, kill the enemies, hack the computers.

Other than that you can freeroam and do silly stuff when you want.

It's like someone said before, run and gun using silly gadgets and over the top weapons.

Driving is very bad, but it takes you where you need to go, also some of the cars are from sr4 like Attrazione.

The story and character missions are fun and silly crazy.

The characters are very different from each other, so that there's no character costomization (only skins with different colors) isn't really a problem, you will find characters you like.

Pre order skins are far superior to the others, so if you didn't pre order you miss out, especially on Daisy and Joule.

Shadowfennekin say the female characters aren't cool, wait til you unlock Daisy and the ninja. Joule is pretty cool aswell, Rama too.

Daisy is by far the coolest character in the game imo, and the ninja is probably the best.

Also Oni (male char) is pretty darn badass. (my fave team, Daisy, ninja and Oni)

Ninjas name is too hard to remember, so I just call her ninja.

Sure, the game is silly but it have some pretty funny dialoge between characters and it give a nice feeling of not being serious.

Sometimes playing something not serious can be a good thing.

Grafics are ok, very cartoonish with black outlines on some stuff so it looks like cartoons.

I actually like that.

If you liked sr4, you will probably like this as well.

Just plain silly fun, I recommend it.

That's my biggest gripe with the game. The city is actually really nice, and well laid out, but regardless of where you are the game breaks down to go here and kill several waves of the same enemies. Then go here and kill several waves of the same enemies. THEN, go here and kill several waves of the same enemies. Or my personal favorite, Go here to start the mission, then... go here and kill several waves of the same enemies... Then the mission ends, or you fight a boss and the mission ends, or hack something and the mission ends, or fight a boss as you try to hack something, and the mission ends. That's the entire game so far.

Also, Gat is crazy OP.

Yeah, you are right.

Swapping agents makes it a little less monotonic though, trying out specials and mayhem stuff on agents you don't use much.

I also like the difficulty system, if you have 3 high level agents the recommended difficulty is higher when starting missions.

Haven't used Hollywood much so I can't see why he's op, sure he likes explosives and stuff, but crazy op?

I dislike him so haven't used him much. (I'm guessing you mean Hollywood when you say Gat?)

OP is the ninja, she cut through enemies like butter, AND can take out snipetroopers with her teleport ability.

Her Mayhem is also crazy good when you have automatic critical from stealth.

Heard the dungeon-like missions reuse almost the exact same interior throughout the whole game. The agent mechanics are supposed to be quite good and the highlight of this game, combining which trio works the best.

Oh well, see you in a year AoM, when you're around 20 bucks or below.

Yes, the enemy lairs look pretty much the same.

How they look are not the point though, same as sr4, you did stuff in locations that looked the same, it's the combat that natters and the different enemies you face. In some lairs there's a lot of swarmtroopers, so you need an agent that's good at killing them.

Other lairs have other enemies, how the actual lair looks is not important.

Sure I would like them all to be different, but it's all about the combat you don't have time standing around looking at stuff anyway.

Combat is super intense.

No, not Hollywood. He's garbage. I mean Johnny Gat from Saints Row. He was a pre-order bonus. Agents of Mayhem actually picks up directly after the [canon] ending of Gat out of Hell...

Spoiler

Agents-of-Mayhem-Gat-Trailer_06-08-17.jp

Johnny Gat is a cop in this reality (instead of a gangbanger), and he's a veritable force of nature in-game, especially compared to all the characters I've unlocked so far. His Mayhem attack is crazy.

Gat pre order bonus, on which console?

Not on ps4.

I have not heard about a bonus character, pre order skins yes, not an extra character.

Sure Kingpin have a lot in common with Pierce and Oleg with Yeti.

There are no Gat character in AoM, Hollywood is the closest.

Maybe he will appear after I finish the story, I have the pre order copy.

also I have unlocked all 12 characters, no Gat.

PS4. He was a pre-order bonus in the US. I unlocked him last night...

TBH, this isn't the first time that Volition has done different things for their games in different regions. Our Collector's edition of SR2 was nowhere near as cool as Europe's, IIRC.

EDIT: Oh. Looks like it was a GameStop exclusive.

What!

So they have a character that not everyone can use, not even pre order customers, only the ones that ordered from a specific retailer?

Wow, that sucks, like wow.

Good thing I never was a big fan of Gat, but still this is not cool.

Do he have extra missions and stuff too?

My god how irritating, I want him now.

Please say you didn't get the usa roller derby skin for daisy and the Harlequin skin for Joule.

If you got both the skins AND an extra character, then it's just not fair, and don't make any sense at all.

TBH, I'm going to wait for a $30.00 - $40.00 sale before i get this game, assuming they release Johnny Gat as a buyable DLC down the line in about a month.

I have yet to play AoM, but judging by Flippy's critique of the driving as well as my experiences with SR4's driving, I don't really see where people are coming from when they say the driving is horrible. It looks more average to me with a lot of stunt variety, not really horrible.

We got 6 skins. I think PC digital players got 9. IIRC, the Harley Quinn skin was part of the 3 outfits exclusive to the digital pre-orders. Console Physical pre-orders got the other 6, including the USA one for Daisy. Oh, and Gat has his own mission tree.

EDIT:

Digital preorder skins:

Gamestop preorder skins (and Gat):

That price point would have been ideal. I can't say that it's a $60 game. The potential is there, but it's missing something. I can't reiterate enough; the city is a great, vibrant, surprisingly well-designed playground (considering how cruddy Steelport was), but there's not enough things to do or toys to play with to make it what it could be. It's missing that "spark". Yeah, the series had gotten crazy, but it's like they took it down way too many notches.

Unbelivable that they have an agent that not all can use, even people that paid full pre order price.

Like I said before, good thing I'm not a Gat fan, but still.

Maybe he will show up in a dlc or something later.

Sucks that there are missions I can't play.

Thank god it wasen't Daisy. lol

About the driving, it's not horrible but very simple and there's no camera angles you can change do you are stuck with close camera.

The stunts and jumps and stuff are mostly in races and are very easy, just hit boost button.

Driving is not a big part of the game, it's for transportation basically, still fun but not especially good in any way.

And you have to go back to base to change car.

*sorry for double post*

I just finished the game, and post game looks pretty good.

Global conflict is reset with new locations, and you can replay missions.

So there is still a lot to do, getting all agents to lvl 20 and new stuff from global conflict.

Looks like I have a couple of days extra game time. :)

If you preorder digitally on console gets you Lazarus instead. She will be available 1 month after game released.

Every preorder bonus will be for sale later on.

--

Anyway, I really like that open world event keeps respawning randomly. Enemy also have a chance to take over some occupied bases as well as starting another new colossal attack somewhere.

Really glad the go this way instead of going for the happy-ever-after method like some action open world games out there do.

--

Kingpin and Yeti are actually Pierce Washington and Oleg Kirlov. You can even see their names in the biodata.

Currently steamdb gives a hint about Safeword Agent, which is Kinzie Kensington. That'll make 4 SR casts in total.

I had seen pics of Lazarus, but I didn't know who/what she was. Really glad to hear about Kinzie. I loved her character.

I'm glad that there's stuff to do after the game ends. In SR3, if you took over all the territories during the course of the game, there was literally NOTHING to do in Steelport after beating the game.

Actually Saints Row 3 had unlimited event where your gang would call you and picking up their call will activate Survival mode. There are 3 types of survival mode: time-based, wave-based, kill count based.

That unlimited survival mode event basically gave me the reason why I bought SR3 again on Steam instead of SR4. SR4 only had replayable silly side missions and the only way to get 'action' is by messing with civilians to get in trouble with the authorities. That's GTA-style 'yawn' end-game content, which I really hate.

---

There's a cutscene which I believe is in later part of the story. It shows a list of agents not only from the current roster and the Ark npcs, but also a few 'unseen' others. This is where the community knows that Kinzie is Agent Safeword.

Lazarus is a rename from an agent called 'Dynamo'.

If you think about it, probably Gat, Lazarus, and Safeword will be a team under (ex-)law enforcement theme. I don't know about Lazarus, but Gat was policeman and Kinzie (and Matt) was FBI in the retcon ending of GOOH.

@luisniko

Thanks for the great info about new characters that are coming.

I haven't read much about the game so your info is much appretiated.

There is an option in requisitions for dlc content, but it don't work atm.

So I'm guessing new characters will be added there, awesome!!!

The screenshot is taken from Persephone's story part 3 watchable in Mayhem Database. Not that far ahead actually. I just beat August Gaunt and that's fairly early.

Saints Row references abound so far. Aside from the characters Pierce, Oleg, Gat, and now Kinzie, most of the cars are named after cars from the Saints Row games. The Saints angel statue is in the very back of Relic's office. I just chased down a shipment of Loa dust. And just heard an exchange between Pierce and Gat in which Pierce asks Gat if he's ever been to Stilwater. Gat responds that he hasn't and says he grew up in Cali. Pierce asks if he's sure, because he seems really familiar, then advises that he should visit because he'd really like it.

All we needed was a Saints Row 5 where the Saints were a corrupt police force, or a corporation fighting ULTOR and other more nefarious corporations...

AOM is just a retcon/multiverse of the SR universe where The Boss never joined the Saints at all, hence Pierce's story cinematic in AOM, due to the Gat Out of Hell ending where god recreates the Earth. It is known.

Adding the SR reference:

- In Gat's mission, 'asshole's car' is a van with GOOH Satan as the decal
- Schehezarade called Pierce, asking if he remembers his past life about being the mayor of Steelport and fighting big soda can monster
- Gat called Kinzie (both are in law enforcement in GOOH retcon ending) and called Rama instead
- Pierce called Oni, telling him that he met a gangster in Stilwater led by Shogo Akuji and destroyed their casino iirc
- Cabbit mascot exists in this universe
- Funny that Hollywood's "The Gat" skin actually taking reference from SR1 Gat, while the whole Saints event did not exist in this world
- D Babs is working under the Morningstar
- Pop idol AISHA

50-something hours recorded and I just finished the story mission few days ago. Too much playing in the open world.

Yep. It takes place after the Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell ending where God rebooted the earth, where the Saints never existed, the Boss is dead, and Gat, Pierce, and Oleg become police.

Yep. It takes place after the Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell ending where God rebooted the earth, where the Saints never existed, the Boss is dead, and Gat, Pierce, and Oleg become police.

Gat was police with Kinzie and Matt Miller.

Pierce joined the Vice Kings and reunited West Side Rollers and Los Carnalez.

Oleg was a Russian soldier.

Might pick this up when it's cheaper. I do like the art-style, pink and purple neon and the setting. Doesn't peak my interest enough to pay full whack. Although I am curious.

Wise decision. That what I should have done. I only completed about one third of it, but I haven't played it in weeks. Environment looks pretty good, but it's way too plastic for my taste. Controls are better than in previous Saint Rows (I haven't tried Gat out of Hell since I consider it as a bad joke of a game) and the first part of the game is somewhat enjoyable. Then comes some missions that are at the same time irritating and boring. And of course the usual not so funny humor is still intact. All in all this title is worth a try when the price is right, but I wouldn't suggest anyone to pay the full price.

Heard the dungeon-like missions reuse almost the exact same interior throughout the whole game.

Must quote this old post. I'm seeing Legion Lair misunderstood comments everywhere.

While interior 'skin' are all the same theme, Legion Lair serves well as a dungeon. The room is generated and connected randomly, complete with secret rooms and doors holding loots.

Anyway, I must say I bit the bullet and half-heartedly paid the digital version of this game and without pre-order, so I got less content for a more expensive price than physical, which was badly distributed over asian region. I didn't want to pay full price partly because of it's DS and Volition.

Luckily, that 60 bucks was easily justified. LOL. Because this game serves well as an action open-world game simply by having a lot of rewarding actions in the open-world portion. I'm not only bound to Story Mission to get the action and the reward like most open world game would do. In this game, I don't pointlessly run over pedestrians out of boredom just to provoke the police because the world doesn't have anything to give.

I mean, this game is actually being a video game at best. It gives playability over watchability/something to ponder about. It gives us playground. As a shooter game, it gives us something to shoot - all the time. It gives a reward for doing something in the game. Doing something in the game, leads to another thing to happen. Overcoming that thing, leads to another thing and also a reward. It becomes an endless cycle of playability, which is totally misunderstood right now as being a chore, while it's actually optional and not meant to be finished since there's no end to it.

Forgetting the game-breaking bug I've encountered twice, I actually wonder how the hell this game isn't getting at least a 7/10 for that alone, while some games with empty open-world and dependency on starting over a story can easily whooped 8, 8.5, or even 9. Not that I care about rating since it's always unfair anyway, but holy sh*t, seems like many want to pay 60 bucks for a video game that being a less of a game, has finite content, and more story instead. I even see Agents of Mayhem players want the open world activities to be clear-able to make the world 'cleaner'. Like, wth man?
