Battlefield 5 shows up on German retailer site, reportedly set in World War 1

Take it with a grain of salt, if it's a WWI shooter then color me excited af. I don't want another f*cking modern shooter.

I really hope this is true. I'm really not a fan of all those ''futuristic warfare'' shooters.

I hope it will not be set in WW1 as I think WW2 makes a better setting eith more devastation.

However, I'm thrilled to see how it will work out as I haven't touched on WW1 games ever simce.

Right now I'm more interested in how technically impressive it'll be to be honest, not sure if I'll even think about getting it either way but it'll be nice to see the graphics/effects quality, destruction, and general complexity they're able to achieve.

Judging by the Battlefront launch, this will go much better than the abysmal launch of battlefield 4.

And i really hope they make loadouts customizable in the main menu. Having to do it during a match or on the app was so f*cking stupid.

WW2 doesn't have lock on missiles and geegaws for guns, so no, it won't be that. They'll just reuse the same assets as Battlefront did and be futuristic to keep up with the Call of Duties.

The only way you'll ever get a WW2-based Battlefield is if it's alt.history and filled with alien Nazi guided missiles and sh*t, and honestly, I wouldn't even be surprised if they tried that. I mean Hardline was a thing, for f*ck's sake.

You're being negative there, man. Just chill. We don't know much the game yet, and you're thinking bad about it already.

Last time I knew, battlefield was about large-scale battles with destruction, not about fighter planes having lock-on missiles.

You're saying that like it's a bad thing. That sounds super f*cking cool. I've always said I would like either CoD or Battlefield to do an alternate history story. Something like we saw in Wolfenstein.

Battlefield devs be taking shots at Call of Duty

http://www.geek.com/...witter-1653858/

I mean, I agree with them, but the internet definitely won't melt after their reveal. BF4 ended up being what is was supposed to about 2 years AFTER release. I don't forget.

Did forget about that. Much of the fanbase would love a new BC (understandably of course). sh*t I hope it's gonna be a proper BC sequel. I wouldn't wet myself, but I'd be hype.

So.... anyone else see this today? Why is this on this article? Wake Island, WWII, can tell by the buildings, and the ship and planes in the BG. Could just be a 1943 picture used as a means to show a "road" but in that case, why? Why 1943 and not something more recent?

Chj9NadWMAExRvi.jpg

Could be nothing, but I felt I should share.

Whoa, if this is true, will this game combined with Battalion 1944 make WWII shooters seem cool again?

Hopefully they make a sequel. The game being focused around rush made it much more fun not to mention the awesome Vietnam expanion with the awesome weaponry.

They should also have less weapons and the same classes from BC2. They made the game much more balanced.

2 explanations of that teaser.

1. There's no helmet, no fancy looking gear on him, it could very well be in the past. (fingers crossed)

2. He is just in street clothes at the time.

I am so f*cking excited to see what it is, I can't explain why cause I feel like I may be disappointed, but god DICE please do something different!

Also, the shadow of the plane on his face seems to be a classic dogfighter like the one's in the 1940's. This is great stuff and I'm excited to see how this game is going to be showcased over time. This might be something special.

I think you're on to something. I would be disappointed though if that's true.

Don't get me wrong, cool artwork and that would be a pretty 'original and cool setting'. But I don't want another 'mech infested' game. Titanfall does it's own thing and is fun how it is. I just want a goddamn WW2 battlefield with asymetrical gameplay and huge 'all around' warfare.

sh*t like Forgotten Hope (2) did back in the day. That was superb.

That teaser could be anything. My guess is he's witnessing the start of Pearl Harbour and that shadow is a Japanese plane. We get the full trailer tomorrow right?

A lot of people on reddit are quite convinced it's World War 1. They reckon the teaser is a soldier in a trench seeing a tank for the first time as it rolls by him.

As long as this game isn't in the future or modern day I'll be incredibly happy.

I would settle for modern again, but it's been modern war since Bad Company 1 in 2008. (unless you count 1943 in 2009) but that is 5 BF games in a row (if you count hardline) that have been modern day. Bad Company 2 did have some WWII stuff in the opening of the campaign, but other than that it was modern.

Fingers crossed for WW2 or 'Nam

It could be a french soldier witnessing the attack from Nazi Germany (WW2). I bet this story is based on Hitler's revenge on France for being humiliated twenty years earlier by signing an armistice. That's if they even go for this which I don't think so.

I've heard that mentioned too. I don't think WW1 really makes sense for BF though, or any modern day FPS. The gameplay would be too slow, the guns, the vehicles, it would all be too cumbersome and outdated. It would be boring, after the initial novelty. It'd be fun at first because it would be so different and new, but long term it doesn't offer enough.

Those red lights look like car lights to me, or some sort of vehicle, which doesn't rule out WW1 but it does make it much less likely.
