Maybe. It would be sensational to re-meet some previous characters who were killed in recent games.

Me too. Sooooooo bad.

In fact I was quite disappointed once I found out V was set in Los Santos and surrounding areas. I don't know why, but once this was revealed I had I gut feeling I was gonna be kinda disappointed with V.

Hey OP can you add a poll. it would be interesting to see what era people would rather have, or if they would want to keep it in present day.

1970s. Great music, cool cars, lots of interesting stuff happening around the world to parody, and drugs and crime were entering a new era. f*ck the 80s and 90s.

Considering this has never been done in a GTA game yet, I'd love to see this happen.

With peoples GTA Online assets more than likely carrying over into the next GTA I highly doubt we'll see another period piece.

I like LA too, but I wanted a new VC so bad.

Actually I was disappointed on finding out V was mostly just LS with no LV or SF. That's when I knew I'd be disappointed with the map.

I don't see how hard it would be to adapt to a GTA without the cellphone, people in the 70's did just fine without it.
-Want to buy cars?;
-Want to invest in the stock market?
-Want to the see news?

TV or newspaper;

Actually works for all three of these. Back in the 70s, and even now, classified ads were king. This could actually be handled really well, and the interface from RDRedemption for the newspapers could be approximated.

And hey, at least there'd finally be a use for phone boxes beyond the assassination calls.

In the Market for a Car?

Go to a Car Dealership. That would be cool.

I´d love to see that. But "old-ass guns, cars, clothes, music and buildings" wouldn´t appeal to a large part of the Online community. So i´m affraid R* wouldn´t take the risk.

San Fierro in the 70's.
For the photos, just steal a camera from some tourist and use it, then let us keep those photos somewhere in our safehouses were we can choose where to post in the walls or discard them.

Then just give us a option to upload them at social club, it could work, just needs some work and creativity.

San Francisco in 70's looked very good in many places through photos

like the GTA SA camera system?

It should stay modern, but should be ultra violent, Vice City style. With heads popping off to blood gushing out as if you broke the water jar, legs slit n sh*t, dismemberment, just gory and bloody mess and pulp everywhere. I would definitely buy that.

But the thing is, Miami today is still a very violent city, there is still an awful lot of drugs, gun crime, and gang activity - it's just that a lot of it is not publicised. That side of Miami is rarely mentioned in the media, but make no mistake it's still a very dangerous city with a heavey drug market and high murder rate.

Rockstar could easily make a modern VC as nearly good as the original.

70's San Fierro.

-Triads

-Cool cars

-Magnum Revolvers

-Vietnam conflict

-Dirty Harry feeling

They could also add some more fictional events like the USA-Australia War which never happened in real life.

Yeah if u dont think miami is still a voilent then i have some news for ya lol

But id still think a gta set in the late 70s could be amazing and better than V. Maybe 1979. They have drugs, criminal organizations, sports cars , the music ,etc. The guns wont be so old. Theres still ak47s , m16s, famas , uzis. The new guns are lame anyways. Its not too far into the past and its still pretty modern. And too everyone saying we need the cellphone, its still a game. I wouldnt mind using a car phone u buy as a upgrade or a payphone (if ur too poor)for contact missions or something. And we can go to the bank and deposit cash like in the scarface game. And if u wanna take pics then add a camera to your inventory where pictures can be accessed in the pause menu

I just hate this modern digital hipster era tbh

Exactly. Some people react to 70s or 80s setting like we're talking about stone age.

The guns weren't any less lethal than today. In fact, many guns designed at the time or even much before are still produced and used today.

The cars, bikes and other vehicles weren't much different from modern vehicles and many were featured in GTA 5,not to mention that classic cars and bikes are also very cool, every real car/bike enthusiast at least appreciates them.

In my opinion some of the clothes present in those times (like the old school leather jackets, classic Chucks or aviator shades) were much cooler than today's hipster skinny jeans will ever be.

Music was also great back then (classic rock,80s pop...).

And stuff like taking photos, talking on the phone or buying cars wasn't impossible, just done differently (but honestly,I think every vehicle in game should be stealable, dealerships should be there just if we're too lazy to look for rare vehicles).

A later 70s GTA in Liberty City is sort of my fantasy game. New York was wild as hell back then and would be the perfect setting for a GTA. Also if you add Alderney and a version of Atlantic City when the casinos were first popping and the mob had a big hand in everything it would make things even more interesting. You also have the Nicky Barnes era in Harlem plus there were a lot of bank robberies and other things going.

I would enjoy 50s, 70s or 80s... So many themes and stories could be done, from a 1950s La Noir style enviroment, 1980s were done properly in Vice why can't they do that again.

I wouldn't mind a flashback for a small portion of the game. Like the 1970s or 80s. That way we can drive retro cars, use a retro brick cell phone, vintage clothing and listen to retro music. Sort of like GTA 5 with that bank heist in North Yankton.

You can't have a whole game based in the 80s. What makes GTA great is making fun of modern day, American culture. And the cell phone that's in the game is a very important element of the gameplay.

No it wasn't. If we're talking about crime, NYC was much more wild in the 1980s. The 1970s were relatively stable in the world of organised crime and gangs in NYC.

In the 1980s ad early 1990s, there were much more mob wars that broke out among the Five Mafia Famililes, the emergence of powerful Hispsnic drug cartels, and the crack epidemic in ghettos that made black street gangs like the Supreme Team a lot of money and led to explosive gang wars, very high homicide and street crime rates.

If any era in GTA needs revisiting, it would be the 1980s, preferably in VC, but I wouldn't want that anyway, all the past main eras of modern crime have already been covered so brilliantly in GTA they I wouldn't want their legacies being ruined by a potential half-baked effort.

Just keep it modern day I say.

U ever seen the movie warriors? Nyc in the 70s was exactly like that, crazy as hell. If you dont believe me , look up the movie 'rubble kings' and youll see. Its a documentary about the nyc gangs of the 70s and even AFRIKA BAMBATA's righteous ass was in a gang,so thats how u know it had to be crazy. And then on a more professional tip, there was the heroin trade. Nicky barnes and frank lucas was wilding. Chinese gangs were wilding in this time too. And this is also when john gotti was doing his dirt to become a boss in the mob. Gta can touch on either of those topics and be good.

You sure can make a game in the 80s. You must have not played any previous gta because vice city and san andreas are classics because of the setting. And theres many ways to substitutes for the cellphone anyways. If u wanna use the internet go to use a pc, you could maybe buy a cellphone to use like im vc, buy a camera, settings can be accessed in the main menu. Thats basically all the cell phones function tbh

1970's NYC would be great I'd like to see them try something in the Summer of 1977 you had Son of Sam running around and the NYC blackout.

Depends where it's set, if they went back in time I wouldn't at all mind it being set in the mid/late 70's. Only because I think the 70's was a cool decade. Quite a lot of cities had really high murder rates during those times as well, pretty sure Chicago recorded 900+ murders one year during the 70's.

I also think setting it in the 90's again would be cool. Just to see all the 90's nostalgia in HD/Current gen graphics.

Modern times would be cool as well, but do we really want numerous parodies of social media/reality tv/smart phones all over again?

We've already had two games in a row set in contemporary times, I think they need to take the series back to at least the 1970's. I actually voted for the 50's or earlier because I'd love to see a Mafia themed GTA take place in a time when the Italian Mob was at it's peak of dominance, but the 70's would suffice.

There is very little that would draw me to another GTA set in modern times.

The detail in a 1970s Liberty City would also be great. Imagine Star Junction infested with hookers and general seediness and Bohan looking like bombed out Berlin or graffiti covered trains you can walk around in.
