I hope so. The three protagonists idea was good on paper but it didn't come off well in the game. V's story was a mess and it was all over place, I just didn't get emotionally invested into any of the protagonists. I would rather we go back to one protagonist I can get behind and IV did that really well. I was invested into Niko's character when playing IV's story while I didn't really give a sh*t about Michael, Franklin or Trevor.

Should be 2 protags. With a story that resembles the one in Casino. Nicky Santoro and Sam Rothstein, 2 childhood friends. They start by working together, but as both their empires grow, they grow apart and eventually become enemies. That'd be awesome for GTA. I wrote that idea for R* 2 months after the release of V. I hope they picked it up.

Well, I think Sam Houser said in one interview, that the only one protagonist thing will return later, but so does the V's multiple protagonists system too.

I hope its not more than 2 in next GTA.

I really hope so. I'd rather have 1 well-developed, fleshed out protagonist instead of multiple shallow ones. However as another user mentioned above me, I really did like the EFLC style where each protagonist had their own story, so perhaps something along those lines.

@ Kipsta

Yes I agree with that. Either go down the EFLC route with one story but from three angles, or if they have to have mutli protags, reduce it to two. As they say, three's a crowd, two's company.

A single protag that is much more customizable than CJ was! You can choose your character from the beginning, male , female, whatever and develop THAT character. It may require another mute like the guy in Liberty City or they could make a customizable voice for the character. Online play needs a 'story line' of it's own. A series of missions based on the story line characters who 'give jobs' at different ranks and making all of them doable alone or with others. Some of the heists are almost unplayable, it's like trying to 'herd cats'!

They should but judging by V's success, they won't.

I would normally say that I'd prefer just one protagonist. But I'm no longer confident that Rockstar can give a decent single protagonist in the next GTA, based on what they did with V. Imagine Michael as the only protagonist in V ? That would have been so boring as hell man. I like Michael's character, but the reality was that there nothing really interesting or significant about him or his backstory. He was just a generic White American freelance career criminal with no ties to organised crime or gangs. Anything other than bank robberies meant he had nothing else of major interest to him. And no, I was not interested in his stupid dysfunctional Real Hollywood Lives-styled family bullsh*t. At the very least we had Franklin and Trevor (despite me hating him) for those who preferred something else in a protagonist like gangs/hood stuff or bikers and meth trade.

I guess it depends on the story they are going for. I would prefer to have just one protagonist someone you can play as from beginning to end.

The problem I had with Gta V is I didn't like Franklin much, Michael was okay but Trevor felt to me like the most fitting Gta Character so you can see that I had to wait until I had progressed far enough into the story before I could play as a character I liked.

Of course you could say that with one protagonist there is a chance you wont like him at all so having three will mean that the audience will have at least one character they like but at the same time I feel more work could go into one character to appeal to a wider audience.

I would like to see one or two charachters. To be honest, I don't want to have the same drama like in Grand Theft Auto V that someone is the third wheel.

They will either stick with 3 protagonists or maybe just 2. But multiple is here to stay, I think that was nothing but a forced gimmicky.

The whole idea of switching needs to be better done to allow more freedom to players, if I like to play only as one character, only do missions with it and progress the story, I should be able to.

I didn't liked Trevor's initial missions and Michael's family BS, I'd much rather play as Franklin and see the story through his point of view only.

I think the multiple protag thing was one of the worst ideas to come to the franchise, and poorly executed in GTA V. I miss having only one protagonist and I sincerely hope they return to that. Unfortunately, due to the success of GTA V I fear multiple protagonists will be on the agenda a while, possible even trickling over to the Red Dead series. Quality of quantity.

You can think of multiple protagonists in V the same way you think of jetpack in San Andreas. Just because we had jetpack in San Andreas, it doesn't mean that we should've had it in GTA IV. We ought to know by now that apart from stealing cars and shooting guns, each GTA isn't necessarily a continuation of its previous sister, but rather an experience of its own carrying new features and stories to tell.

I hope we get only ONE1UNO character. I didnt know who to feel for at times and my first couple of playthroughs , i absolutely hated trevors dirty ass and hated playing as him. But TWO characters are the max we should get if we are going to get multiple protags. And the map HAS got to be big enough with 2 detailed cities to keep them apart until sometime in the middle of the story. But at the end of the day, i just want a single full fleshed out character.

If they are re creating the cities from the 3D universe, i think it'd be cool say if they did las ventures and San fierro in one game. Two protag from each city, leading up to a climatic meeting of some sort. Like Luis or Johnny running into Niko. But the meeting could be the climax. Allowing us to play out 2 different versions of their meeting

They clearly said in an interview that the 3 protagonist story was a test to see how it would work out and that they would return back to a single protagonist story. Don't remember where it was said but I remember it being everywhere.

I always liked the idea of multiple protagonists and I believe if done right, it can be an amazing experience. But with how R* has handled it with GTA V, I think they should just stick with one for now until they have a solid script for more than one.

A jet pack isn't so in your face as multiple protags, nor is it a selling point as "renovation".

I personally enjoyed the multiple protagonists in V, though I will agree it made the depth of the characters suffer quite a bit.

But from a game play standpoint, being able to switch between characters on the fly was pretty fun, and made for the best missions in the game in my opinion.

Should they decide to go the multi-protag route in the future, let's just hope they make the overall game/story about twice as long to more fully flesh out the world we're playing in.

Three characters gave me the feeling that they had to ramp everything about their character up a notch as each of them have less time story time than of traditional GTA's. Whereas a single character, they can be a little more subtle and less vocal and less down-your-throat and obnoxious and you can see their character develop over a nice long story. I loved the idea, I must say and I love Rockstars intention, I believe it was a sound one but I think it's better on paper than it does in practice.

It kinda seems like most people agree on this too. While everyone appreciates the idea and attempt, I think we all prefer a single character.

Give me 3 cities and one character, not the other way around :p

Interesting. The majority seem to both want two protagonists and believe it will happen.

Is it possible to add a mod for this?

How many protagonists do you think Rockstar will have in addition to how many you would prefer?

In SR2 (the only SR I've played) you can totally customise your character at the start.  And they recorded six complete sets of dialogue thus giving the player six voices to choose from.  I guess they could do something similar in GTA.  But they'd probably only have the one protag in that case.  But frankly, I can't see Rockstar doing this.

Depends what kind of story they want to tell in the next GTA. Even though I liked GTA V, they need to take better care that one or two characters don't get the vast majority of the action while the third gets left in the dust like Franklin.
