I think I'll never see the new GTA if R* staff takes so long. I preferred when R* released games every 2 years, although the graphics were worse.

My guess is things will be similar to Gta 5's strategy, starting with an announcement later this year.

Then somewhere around September, They will release a trailer with the release date being spring 2019.

This will be followed with dissapointment in early 2019, when they bring the news that Gta's release has been delayed.

And in the end we'll get it late 2019.

Too early, my friend, too early. I bet it will not.
Times change and R* strategy too.

RDR2 took 8 years to come, GTA6 will take 7-8 as well. 2013+7=2020. Note, that R* should announce Bully2 after RDR2 and give players minimum 2 years to play in RDR2 and RedDeadOnline.

I am 100% positive about this

Late May 2018 Read Dead 2 Redemption will be  release in few weeks *R will make about announcement about release date May 29, 2018 etc..

Rockstar Games going talk about GTA4 10 year anniversary which is April 29, 2018 *R will re-release GTA4 for PS4, Xbox One, possible PC via Online. GTA4 will be  optimized with higher textures, few new features, bonus weapons and clothing.

*R will going talk about big GTA: Online DLC update  with new heist missions, weapons, car mods, few new cars, possible visiting Liberty City in mission or something like that ?

I will expect Midnight Cub re-release later this year  on PS4, Xbox One with features and optimized from last gen

I expect somewhere between May-September 2019 *R will make announcement of GTA5 release Fall 2020

Just my predictions very positive lol

You got remember GTA6 development started around 2014 which is one year pre-production until 2015.

2014-2015 GTA6 pre-production getting frame work of the game  such casting, choosing locations, designing team, foundation of game

2016-2019 GTA5 full production in effect

2020 final touches of GTA6 for release in September-October

Read Dead Redemption 2 pre-production started around 2012

September-October 2020 we see Grand Theft Auto 6 release and PC release 6 months later.

GTA6 will be  on PS4 and Xbox One, PlayStation 5, Xbox Two whatever it called

Next year in summer most likely  because Read Dead Redemption 2 need entire of year of spotlight and sales target. You can expect GTA4  10 year anniversary re-release with higher textures and few new features like weapons, clothing, bonus. GTA4 was first GTA in HD world. 2020 is my prediction for GTA6 and Summer 2019 for announcement for Spring 2020 and delay to Fall 2020. I hope create another Midnight Club, Max Payne, Agent and Bully 2 after GTA6.

RDR2 is in the way,Rockstar's tactics is about how much can they milk out of the fans, just like they did with V,first it was released on old consoles then to CG then to PC then stop all updates on old gen so that old gen users get the CG/PC version, taking that into consideration my guess would be until Rockstar is done with RDR2 completely that includes releasing it on CG then maybe on PC and whatever updates they have in order to boost them sharkcard's sales, just when they are done sucking the lives out of everyone then we can expect VI.

So I'd say the best timing for VI's release would be somewhere around 2021-2022.

It's hard to tell whether it's coming later this generation of consoles or it will skip for the next. R* could be designing Redemption II to last for long, and here I mean the multiplayer part of it. Sure thing is that it's not coming earlier than Fall 2020. 2021-2022? Maybe. Grand Theft Auto V is still charting to this day as evident by it being the 6th best-selling game for 2017 in the US, even beating new releases like Assassin's creed. Apparently, Rockstar/T2 is no rush for a new Grand Theft Auto game based on this fact. It's going to be a long time for VI, I reckon.

Remember when game sequels came out more or less every two years... Now, it's like you are sitting there with your great, great grandchildren telling them "I remember, it was back before the great Chinchilla Wars, in 2013, when I first played the last Grand Theft Auto... Five I think it was... It had cars... Cars were these things that you sat in and drove... Most used gasoline made from dead dinosaur juice... Oxygen was free back then and a there were these things called trees... They say maybe next year if the Octopus Overlords allow it, maybe they will finish GTA 6... "
I think it was in 2013, some website or magazine interviewed Dan Houser and he said "We have enough ideas for new GTA games for the next forty years..." Or something like that...
So... Like two more games right?
I just think it's weird when you have two super lucrative titles and the reason one is delayed is you are closer to finishing up the other... Like one one title can be released at a time or they don't have different teams working on different games...
Whatever...
I'll just try to forget about a new game until I accidentally see a commercial or stumble across it in Best Buy...
If Best Buy is still in business by then and the Octopus Overlords haven't exiled me to the prison colony on Mars....

It will be better if they do a jawbreaking announcement this year, then delay it all next as expected and finally release it early 1st quarter in 2020.

I don't want to see the drought be longer then RDR2.

Initially I expected an announcement late this year with a release around the holidays next year. Now with the delay of RDR2 I'm thinking an announcement middle of next year and a release late 2020.

No game franchise will last forever. Most of the forum will probably see the GTA series die.

I doubt it, GTA is just too popular to die imho. For an example the Zelda series isn't nearly this popular and still is going strong after 30 years..

Not many, if they keep increasing the development time. I mean whats next? More than a decade of wait? Its kind of annoying..

The stats of Zelda would say otherwise. I know OOT has been out longer and the sale numbers of BotW are bound to change but OOT had 13.22 million sales, counting both the original N64 version (7.6 mil) and the 3DS version (5.62 mil) compared to BotW which so far has only sold 7.78 million copies on the Switch (6.70 mil) and on the WiiU (1.08 mil)

Sources from here, each sales number contains a reference next to it you can follow which will take you to sales

I nor anyone else can predict the success of the GTA franchise in the future but at some point unfortunately it's going to drop off.

The filling date is end of 2017?
And GTAOnline is already online since 2013.

Going by previous examples, it will not be released before 2020. GTA 5 did enter "pre-development" in 2008, but actual "full development" ran "nearly 3 years" including a half-year delay. I am under the impression, that full development of GTA 5 began in Fall 2010, with the first trailer being shown on November 2, 2011 and completion on August 25, 2013 for September 17, 2013 launch.

Take-Two were originally targeting a sign-off date of early 2013, equaling a target of over 2 to 2.5 years of production from 2010 to early 2013, for Spring 2013 release. By comparison, pre-development of GTA IV began in November 2004, with full production commencing circa late 2005/early 2006, first trailer barely shown March 29, 2007 (6.5 months before projected release date) and completion in March 2008, following a 6.5 month delay from October 16, 2007 to April 29, 2008 release.

What stands out to me most, is that Red Redemption was released in May 2010 and had been in full production since 2006. Interestingly, its final release date of May 18, 2010 (pushed back from April 2010) coincided with start of full development on GTA V just afterward. If they chose to wait until development has fully wrapped on Red Redemption 2 (September 2018), then full GTA 6 development would start late this year, hopefully with that only 2.5 years of focused effort, plus accounting for a 6 month delay ending in mid-late 2021.

Now, if GTA 6 requires 3.5 to 4 years of full production, versus the estimated 2.5-3 years it took for GTA 5 (preceding August 25, 2013), then I imagine mid-2022 release. Personally, I find that absurd, but plausible. Not sure why RDR and GTA development can't overlap a little, to get things moving. An 8-year gap is excessive, because at the end of the day this is it's own series and the time between RDR and RDR2 should not be used as an example. Even GTA III to GTA IV was 6.5 years at most, while in between that, you had episodic and semi-episodic content in VC (dev. Nov 2001 to Aug 2002) and SA (developed Q1 2003 to Aug 2004).

good catch! GTA VI def has been in alpha phase for a while. I assume that it will be in beta phase soon. I also still in the camp for announcement on the 20th anniversary of GTA as a series in May.

Grand Theft Auto V sold 15M units in 2017 alone and will probably sell another 10M this year, which will bring its lifetime sales figure to 100M. Its predecessor, Grand Theft Auto IV, has a lifetimes sales figure of 22M. If you think about it, GTA V's sales are still beating IV's total figure five years after release . That's insanely unprecedented and makes you question if they need another a new Grand Theft Auto game to release soon. This will bode well for Redemption II, especially if it'll be designed with an addictive and widely appealing Online in mind. There's almost a 1:1 attachment between console sales and Grand Theft Auto V sales. In other words, it's the must-buy game for anyone getting a PS4 or X1.

VC and SA weren't episodic content...they were full games they just all used the same engine.
