As many are aware, GTA San Andreas was ported to the PS3 and PS4 with full trophy support in December 2015. While there are many guides available instructing players on how best to obtain these, appropriate answers can often be message boards apart and I wanted to add personal tips on how to earn them. Some are insultingly easy, and some may make you wonder why they were added in the first place, but every single one of them is attainable with some skill, luck, patience... and I dare say this guide. All can be earned in a single playthrough of the game and on one save file unless you make a mistake so do take care.
LIST OF TROPHIES (& BREAKDOWN)
The Key to San Andreas
Unlock all trophies (Platinum)
The big one - obviously this trophy is earned when all others have been completed. Nothing more about it really, you want the others. Keep reading.
Complete Big Smoke (Bronze)
The first of many easy trophies on this list, this one will come with natural progression in the game. Simply complete the mission "Big Smoke" to see this one pop up. There's a long way to go yet.
Purchase a Grove Street tattoo (Bronze)
Tattoo parlours are unlocked in the mission "Ryder" alongside barber shops and the gym. You can't just get any old tattoo however, you're looking for one that shows you're down to represent the set - you can get either the one on the stomach, or the one on the back. Any of those will earn you the trophy.
The End of the Line
Complete the mission "End of the Line" (Gold)
Story related, this trophy will be awarded when you complete the infamous last mission "End of the Line".
Win a game of pool (Bronze)
Can be won very early on the game, particularly because Ten Green Bottles (a bar where pool can be played) is located in Ganton, near Grove Street. Set your wager and beat your opponent to win the trophy. Bear in mind that you don't literally need to "beat" your opponent to win, though you are given a pool cue at the end if your melee weapon slot is empty. Be aware too that sometimes a glitch can occur which causes the aiming guideline to disappear. It will either stay invisible for the duration of the match, or reappear at random intervals. I'm not sure if this is present in previous versions but I'm not sure what causes it. Do feel free to tell me if you know. Regardless, this shouldn't be too much of a challenge, hence its bronze status.
A Legitimate Business
Export all three car lists (Silver)
One of the lengthier trophies, and most rewarding in the game. In San Fierro, you're given the option to export cars after completing "Customs Fast Track" given by Cesar. The list can be found at Easter Basin docks. The better condition the cars, the more money you'll earn, though delivering the cars in perfect (or even good) condition is not a prerequisite for the trophy. While many cars on each of the three lists can be seen driving around various areas of San Andreas, some only spawn in particular places and will only spawn there when wanted for export. See here for a list, or see here for a visual map on spawn locations should you want to cut out the middle man and find them parked.
The American Dream
Purchase any house (Bronze)
This trophy is a breeze, especially when you've got thousands upon thousands burning a hole in your pocket. Simply buy any house available to earn. While money is hard to come by from earlier missions, you'll have the cash in no time if you choose to complete the taxi, vigilante, paramedic or firefighter missions first. These are available from the beginning of the game and you can earn money very quickly, as well as bagging the trophies related to each while you're at it.
Get a Pump
Do a barbell curl or benchpress at any gym (Bronze)
As mentioned prior, gyms are unlocked after the third mission "Ryder". Simply enter and start working out to see this trophy flash its guns.
Pay ‘n’ Spray
Use a Pay ‘n’ Spray with wanted level (Bronze)
This is another trophy which cannot be missed, though you won't earn it during "Drive By" as your first visit is free. You should have visited a Pay n' Spray at some point in your playthough however, so I'm not going to insult you by suggesting how to use one.
Bike or Biker
Complete BMX or NRG challenge (Bronze)
This is one of those trophies that sounds easy on paper, but can be a bit of pain to actually earn, especially if your cycling or bike skill is poor. Personally, I found the NRG challenge easier to complete despite it being available later on in the game; the BMX challenge can be found in Glen Park, where the NRG challenge is found in the sheltered bowl in Easter Basin docks. To stand a better chance of earning the NRG challenge trophy, try and time it so you go through a corona as soon as the clock hits zero. If successful, this will remove the timer completely and you'll be free to complete the challenge at your leisure. If you're anything like me, you'll need all the time you can get. The timing has to be absolutely perfect, but I can confirm this does work on the PS3 and PS4 port. I'm told it also works for the BMX challenge but I'm having a harder time getting it to work for that. You only need to complete one of the two offered to earn this trophy.
Beat the Cock
Win the Beat the Cock marathon (Bronze)
There are two marathons available in the game, but much like the previous trophy, you only need to win one of them to earn this. They are located at the Santa Maria Beach (the pier where the lighthouse can be found) and Fisher's Lagoon in Red County. This trophy becomes heaps easier if you complete the Burglary side-mission before you enter, as you're rewarded infinite sprint regardless of your stamina if you steal more than $10,000 worth of loot. You are also required to have a certain amount of cycling skill, so you'd better get pedalling if you even want to stand a chance. Note that the Vortex can be used for the swimming portion of the race, though running over anybody will result in an instant disqualification.
Spend $6,969 on clothes, hair, and tattoos (Bronze)
It wouldn't be Rockstar without a 69 joke. Luckily for us there's two in one here. This is one of the easiest trophies to unlock. Simply go on a shopping spree until you've racked up $6969 worth of clothing.
Complete a vehicle school (Silver)
Sort of story related, sort of not. You can earn this trophy as early as San Fierro as Dwayne will call you implying you're a bad driver and that conveniently, there's a driving school nearby. Despite CJ's protests and offence, you'd be wise to complete this. Not only will you earn the trophy, but you'll also be rewarded a Super GT for all bronze medals which is one car you'll need to export. Every little helps, right? You can also earn this trophy later on in the story by learning how to fly which is necessary to progress, so you can't really miss this one.
Get arrested 50 times (Silver)
Probably the most tedious and annoying of all trophies, this inane "achievement" involves you getting arrested 50 times. You can complete this at any point in the game, though I recommend getting it early so you don't lose too many weapons or too much money. I find the easiest way to earn this is run people over with a car or bike, and let the pigs come to you. With only one star, they'll open the door/knock you off and arrest you on the spot. If you wait for them to beat you whilst on foot, there's a chance you'll die before they arrest you. Police brutality at its finest. You also run the risk of being killed if you gain too many wanted stars as they prefer to take you out of the picture completely rather than arrest you. It's time consuming and annoying, but once it's done it's done. This can be made a little more bearable by dating Barbara until you earn the perk of being able to keep your weapons after being arrested. It may drag the process on a little, but it softens the blow of losing your beloved armaments.
Take the train between cities (Bronze)
A trophy for a train ride? Deal. Note that you don't have to endure the whole journey to get this one; you can simply skip to the next city to earn it.
Horror of the Santa Maria
You're not stupid. Just drown. I'm not going to tell you how to drown. Do this early on so you don't lose anything.
Assert Yourself Next Time
Fail a mission (Bronze)
I don't care how good you are, this will come naturally as you play. If you aren't to blame, faulty AI will be. It's frustrating failing a mission at the hands of something out of your control, but at least they'll be doing you a favour.
What the City Needs
Complete 12 levels of Vigilante (Silver)
You can do this one at any point in the game, but if you want to save time and effort (which let's face it, of course you do) you can make use of a glitch that survived the porting process. While this glitch works with a bike as well, it's best to use a car. If you start the vigilante mission and enter a fast food restaurant, there's a chance they'll be destroyed whilst inside, or when you exit again. Basically, keep entering and leaving the restaurant, making sure to get back into your car to reset the on-foot timer. This seems to work best in north San Fierro, as most criminals spawn downtown making it more likely they'll be killed when leaving. I don't know the specifics of why this glitch works, but I'm not complaining. As I said, this glitch works best in San Fierro because other cities have a large amount rural areas and deserts, making it harder for the rest of the police force to catch them and making it less likely that they'll respawn elsewhere.
Complete 12 levels of Paramedic (Silver)
This is one you can't glitch your way through unfortunately, though you can make it slightly easier by using the hospital in Glen Park, available from the very start. Patients in earlier levels will spawn very close to the surrounding area, though this thins out the further along you go. Alternatively, wait until you are able to access Angel Pine - the patients there will not spawn too far away from the town's outskirts making it even quicker still. However, completing this trophy and earning the bonus health to boot makes playing the game a fair bit easier.
Rescue a Kitten Too?
Complete 12 levels of Firefighter (Silver)
Can be done anywhere and anytime. I don't really have any specific tips or hints for this one, only that you shouldn't really struggle even in Los Santos. I had around seven minutes to spare by the last level. Make sure you aim the water at the base of the fire and be aware of fleeing motorists making your job a little harder by running around in flames.
Yes I Speak English
Reach 50 fares in Taxi Mode (Silver)
To earn this trophy, complete 50 fares, though do remember you don't have to do them all in one go. This takes the stress out of keeping your taxi in good condition, though if you're anything like me you'll end up with a smoking hood after around ten fares. Be aware too of the notorious "Taxi Toreno" glitch, which can hinder your progress. If you fly too much prior to the Toreno mission "Learning To Fly", you'll prevent any fares from spawning whatsoever. While I can't confirm this is still in the PS3/PS4 ports, it's best to avoid flying too much before getting this trophy. If the worst comes to the worst, simply start a new save and complete the taxi fares there.
Time to Kill
Watch the credits to the end (Silver)
Please don't skip the credits. You'll regret it. Honestly.
SECRET TROPHIES (& BREAKDOWN)
What happens in Las Venturas…
Complete Yay Ka-Boom-Boom (Silver)
What happens in Las Venturas might stay in Las Venturas, but you'll be taking this trophy back home to Los Santos with you by simply finishing the mission.
All Dressed Up for San Fierro
Complete The Green Sabre (Silver)
You get the idea. These hidden trophies are easy to forget as they aren't listed, but you won't miss them.
"Go home" with a girlfriend after a date (Bronze)
This trophy is easy to get early on after rescuing Denise in "Burning Desire". If you go on enough dates with her, she'll be inviting you in after 40% progress has been reached. Denise is also fairly easily pleased, satisfied with nearby fast food and the occasional spot of dancing. You'll be sipping from this trophy before long.
What are the Odds
Win a race in Inside Track Betting (Bronze)
This is almost always based on luck, pretty much like real gambling. Stick with a minimum bet and fair odds, and you'll be a winner in around five or six tries. Don't worry about losing too much, there's not a great deal to spend cash on until later on in the game, and if you've completed the side missions prior to this, you'll have money to burn as it is.
Double or Nothin’
Put the maximum bet on red or black and win (Bronze)
As before, this is all down to luck. Pick a table with a small maximum bet and put all you can on either red or black. This is available after casinos are unlocked, obviously. Do you feel lucky? I didn't. Took me four tries. FOUR. Ridiculous.
Complete a stealth kill (Bronze)
If you don't go for this trophy off your own back, you'll be given the option to earn it during "Madd Dogg's Rhymes" where you're instructed to take out guards in Madd Dogg's mansion with a knife. You'll know when you're in position as CJ will raise his knife. Easy.
Reach maximum respect (Gold)
While this isn't technically a story related trophy, it should come naturally whilst playing and earning respect. Each territory taken over gives you 3%, and every drug dealer taken out offers a 0.5% bonus.
The Los Santos Slayer
Reach a total kill count of 4,000 (Silver)
You shouldn't be too far off the kill count needed for this trophy after completing the main story - by the time I had completed "End of the Line", I was up to around 2900. Taking over territories boosted this significantly. If you're bored of mowing down pedestrians (somehow) take to the skies in your Hydra (found at the airstrip after completing "Vertical Bird") and blast anything that gets in your way.
Public Enemy No. 1
Reach 6 wanted stars (Silver)
You'll have to wait until you've unlocked Las Venturas to earn this trophy, but it's well worth the wait because there's little more satisfying than getting 6 stars for being naughty. This is easily done in Area 69, where you'll be instantly slapped with 5 just for setting foot in the place. Help yourself to a tank if you can survive the flurry of bullets and cause some havoc. Alternatively, a Sea Sparrow can also be used due to the mounted machine gun. While it is slower, you may find it easier to land kills whilst hovering and some bribes are attainable to help lower the inevitable heat you'll attract. You'll see this trophy pop in no time at all.
Achieve maximum sex appeal (Gold)
This one took me the most time, believe it or not. Try as I might, I just couldn't be sexy enough. However, a user here (thanks OrionSR) told me that I could layer up the benefits of sexy clothing by removing something completely and putting it back on to stack the points. Make sure you're covered in tattoos and that you get a snazzy haircut (I recommend blonde cornrows) before doing this. Clothing from Didier Sachs is also recommended, like the tweed suit or tuxedo. You'll also need an attractive car with no damage.
Grove Street War Lord
Capture 30 territories (Gold)
Whilst gang territories are available as early on in the game as "Doberman", there's little point going for this trophy at that point because no sooner have you taken over your first territory you're plonked in the desert with nothing but the clothes on your back. Instead, wait until later on in the game where you're instructed to put Grove Street back on the map. Despite the straightforward instruction, this is misleading - you need to have 30 territories under GSF control at once, as the counter is not cumulative. It's easy to keep track of in the stats however - just look for "territories held" under the gangs tab.
So there you have it, my personal break down of each trophy in the PS3 and PS4 ports of GTA San Andreas. Please feel free to use this topic to talk about your own methods of attaining these, particularly the troublesome ones. Ask questions, and do correct me on any mistakes I've made. I'm just one man. One sexy man.
