Over the last year my love for Rockstar has dropped a few percentage points. It's now something like 85% love : 15% hate, but in the past it was 90/10.
On the one hand they keep on releasing new updates and introducing innovative gaming mechanics like VIP and freemode event modes, new cars, yachts, stilt houses, etc...
But on the other hand, they don't do any housekeeping, which is really frustrating. Just think of the dozens of little things that have never been rectified - like the continuing saga with the incorrect car classes, for example.... In an ideal world Rockstar would have developers working 24x7 on bug fixing and correcting all the little niggles we have with the game, but in reality all those resources are allocated to producing the next big thing, which is really great, but mostly focused on generating revenue for Rockstar.
That's what 90+% of their player base is asking for though. Look at the YouTube videos that get attention, week after week and month after month. People would wet themselves if Rockstar opened the casino, but if they fix a minor bug that was introduced 18 months ago, most players don't even notice. I don't really blame them for prioritizing the stuff that keeps people playing. Calling them "greedy" for caring more about the money spigot is missing the point. In the alternate reality where they made the game super-stable and de-prioritized updates, we might have never even gotten heists and the DLC would have stopped by now. That's wild speculation of course, but I suspect it's true.
For better or worse (often for worse), you need to try to enjoy your yacht and worry less about minor-but-annoying-and-months-old glitches, because as a community we are choosing the former over the latter. There's stuff that bugs me - for instance the 3rd person camera angles of the BF Injection are screwed up and make the car feel like a toy; this started when current gen came out, and I sold my Injection months ago after finally giving up that it would ever be fixed. Most people don't know about this, and even among the ones that know, most don't care. And that's why Rockstar doesn't fix it. But I sold mine, and bought something new from the DLC instead, because I'd rather enjoy the game than obsess over this car I used to love that I now can't stand to drive.
You're right about that. I spend way too much time looking at the minor bugs and getting frustrated about them instead of just relaxing on my yacht with my copious amount of helicopters, pegasus vehicles, 5 high-end properties and 50 cars - but I do that a lot too, don't worry mate
In an ideal world, perhaps in a decade or two from now, Rockstar will have a tool that allows us to log in and make our own minor adjustments to the game. Perhaps a sort of GTA-pedia that allows us to submit ideas, e.g. the Sultan RS should be categorised in the Sports car class, followed by a voting system similar to global changes on Rate Your Music, for example, and if that vote is accepted, a change that is automatically implemented into the game. Perhaps we would be able to make changes to the aesthetics of building exteriors, for example, using on-site paint tools, which would, again, be submitted and subjected to voting before being automatically updated. I guess this is just a pipe dream though and we'll just have to wait for the programmers to correct the biggest bugs and errors in the next update.
