Intro and the news.
 
Only download this is you want to get a sneak peek at the project (A snapshot) however I give a short warning!!.. Do not expect a complete build otherwise do not waste your time downloading.
 
This version has many, many, many wonderful bugs that I need to sort out (and leave the good bugs in), Many of these can be fixed by updating the models like I've done around the VC Airport and the Docks and in time the rest of the map so this will be ready for rage.
 
GTASOL: Infusions will be based on a collection of Rockstar cities from GTAIII, VC and SA remodelled in the style R might have created them including elements of LCS, VCS and Beta maps merged in without deleting any of the original models that will be used as LOD's. The second objective is to upgrade the engine in a way beyond it's original design (This applies to the VC engine only).

The way I am working with SOL has changed from just bashing new releases all over the web hoping people report bugs. As of now there will be more of a wait between releases and the process is going to work like this.
 
I develop the game just like I am working with the RW engine testing each stage and map section, Using KED (image above) I will be detailing model placements on the map as this is a lot faster then using buggy old kams with 3dsmax.
 
Repeat the process slowly porting sections to Rage.
In the end this will be job done.

We also need to rewrite the SOL core hacks as the VC Engine is very inefficient at loading models from the img files into the memory array. plus there are also in game LOD to Model switching bugs.
 
So why are we releasing this now?
 
We release beta versions every so often to give the community access to the mod thus this allows other members a way to contribute towards this project. Anyone can be a beta tester and join in the great hunt for bugs and report mapping issues, Please post these issues in the thread below.

Installing the mod files.
 
Providing you installed your copy of Vice City from disk and ran this at least once with your desired settings.

Following this example of how to install the mod might be easier then how it is written in the mods documentation. (Readme)

There are 2 ways to install the mod:

  • The first would be to install Vice City as a Clean copy on your Harddrive and make sure all the files was not set as read-only as this would create issues over writing the files later.
  • Start the GTA_VC.exe and check your settings for the display and run the game once.
  • Quit GTA ViceCity.
  • Copy the mods folder over your installed GTA Vice City replacing all the files.

Download the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package from here. http://www.microsoft...on.aspx?id=5555

You should be good to go so just run the GTASOL_Start.exe instead of the gta-vc.exe

Now the Second way that works best for Linux users. (need to fix the no CD found popup, even when there is a CD in the disc tray, This could be a wine bug, but as yet I have not had a lot of success fixing this so steam might be the way to go here.

  • Unpack all the mod files into an empty folder called GTASOL69.5.
  • Drag the Anims, Icons, Mp3, Mss, Movie, Skins, Text, Txd (but keeping LOADSC0.TXD) folders from your installed VC install into your GTASOL69.5 folder, also the files from your Vice City root folder like the Mss32.dll, gta-vc.exe and readme files.
  • Copy the Audio folder from Your Vice City Play Disk (Disk2) into the GTASOL69.5 folder.
  • Run the mod from the GTASOL_Start.exe.

Next version will come soon so we're working on these entries:

1. Reorganized IMG Files

2. Add new Haiti and remodel some dock roads

3. Add/Fix some SolCore features  

 

Future plans which come to 70 versions:

1. Add new MLL

2. Reorganize IPL files of Liberty City

3. Add LODs back (We're not sure about this because they're loading incorrectly)

4. SCM Features (low chances)

More of an update; I am looking at what part of Miami to add to Vice next. I've had to replace some badly made models by R. But we can't just have a dozen or so warehouses in that area like before.

 

Images shown above are just the basic models without the detail rending like wires, pipes and power boxes. but I would like ideas and pictures some of buildings you would like to see in miami.

A 10 story parking structure was finished today that I added into Vice City. Next to do is that empty plot to the right. A new skyscaper will be put there in place of the existing.

New hotel for Vice point almost ready. I need to optimize this model down some more, fix the doorways (not sure they look right)  and finish the roof garden. Window cleaning utilities and roof cooling vents.
I also need to find a better glass texture.
 
Textures are my biggest problem where making them from scratch can take almost as long as modelling this building (3 hours work)

I have windows 10. Despite people complaining about Microsoft's latest outing the VC engine, hacks and all seem to run fine.
 
When there is a crash or problem it helps to give more information about the error otherwise it's a waste of time reporting it in the first place if people do not tell me where to look.
 
Crash log (sol_log.txt) found in the SOL's root folder and error popup windows.

Linux hacks are finally working at long last. we have a clean set of hacks compiled and placed in the the mods /mss folder. finally we have the best of both worlds on Windows and Linux (wine1.8+ with dot.net2 and dx8, 9 installed), I guess next is OSx compatibility.

Where is SOLCore.dll from modules folder? it's missing thus making this unplayable

It's now Solcore.asi and that's in the mss folder.

 

Depends on the version you have? files have been changed and updated in the last build.

Can you please help me with the mod? I want to install/make CLEO scripts and missions for SOL VC, how can I install CLEO? when I install CLEO.asi, the game crashes. I have 69.9.9.5 version.

GTASOL; 69.9.9.2 hacks are more stable and may work with Cleo. The problem comes down to all the memory address changes (limits hacked) within the gtasol.core.

Remove all old hacks .asi/ .dll from the mod's root folder (GTASOL69.9.x), and delete only solcore.asi from the /mss folder.

I'd welcome missions and others things to do besides driving around.

Put the Cleo folder and any other .asi files in the main mod's folder then with a little luck cleo should work, but I will look into this more when I get time.

Thanks a lot for the advice and for the mod, of course. I installed the new version, then the hack, and then I put CLEO.asi to the main folder, but it still doesn't work.

I have Win 7.

Anyway, when I installed the new version, I've deleted it nearly immediately because CLEO doesn't work :( So maybe the latest version has new zone names, btw have you already made the zone names for San Andreas and do you plan to make it for the whole map?

zons is one of the things on the list yet to be hacked.

1. Fixing the ped limits and ped spawn-ability (new word so maybe I should have typed traffic /ped density) time and spacing between spawned vehicles is to long.

2. There are problems now with timed objects because that's now handled outside the engine to include days, months, and years and injected back in so we can have a liner map where future buildings could be spawned later on in place of existing.

3. Trying to speed up other rendering routines by allocating engine tasks to other threads, this one is beginning to look impossible. but one speed up is to only allow spawned objects /meshes collisions, not everything there hidden time-sync and interiors also get collisions.



Also working on making the textures switch every 12 month to include snow textures for LC and other areas.

I'll get around to this at some point.

Sorry everything isn't up front and done, this takes time as you can understand and it's summer so my time is split between other commitments.

It's all details. SOL is the greatest vice city global mod, and you're the coolest ever VC modder  :r*:  First time I was playing for hours and no crashes on my average computer.

 

Just for now I reinstalled it, because there were only 2 types of peds on the streets - male01 and cop, and the game started crashing.

 

So, I'll be glad if I can help with missions, scripts, interiors and zone names if I have enthusiasm on it, I hope I'll have it.  :) But it requires CLEO.

 

BTW, I've already converted SA radio to VC, it's a good addition and now it's like playing an alpha version of SA with VC graphics and atmosphere :happy:

The peds showing as cops was fixed on version 69.9.9.

Working on getting cleo working on this tomorrow.

A little hold up on the upload. I discovered some other issues that also need fixing.

 

Incorrect Opcode ID: 247B for starters. I took it that the game was working because I'd never got to the menu screen.

 

I should have checked beyond that.

OK. I tried to make a mission. I made a cutscene and character models, but looks like main.scm can't stand with missions. I just put the 1st mission to Mission 0 and the game crashes entering the mission with a message on the screen. I tried to put an empty mission code but still don't work.

So I'm waiting for CLEO to make it as a CLEO script.

 

Also the game crashes when chasing cops (2+ wanted level), starting shooting cops.
