Project OpenRW is a multi-purpose editor and archive manager for the "older" RenderWare - Engine based games.

Currently OpenRW's major features are:

- Browse the games' files | by reditec

- Automatic updater | by reditec


Grand Theft Auto III (PC and PS2)
- Read IMG archive files | by reditec

- Extract IMG archives | by reditec

Grand Theft Auto Vice City (PC and PS2)
- Read IMG archive files | by reditec

- Extract IMG archives | by reditec

Grand Theft Auto San Andreas (PC)
- Read IMG archive files | by Tank / Aviator / not implemented yet

There is no stable version available yet.

 

 

OpenRW is not related in any way to OpenIV, openFormats, .black, the OpenIV team or Rockstar Games.

will you add Bully support ?

 

If Bully is RW based and is documentated somehow, I'll ofcourse add Bully Support. I'll also add support for GTA: VCS, GTA: LCS and the mobile games of GTA. :-)

Maybe we can port those console games over to PC in that way ;)

I still don't know what OpenRW is actually supposed to do. Is it more than an IMG tool?

Yes it will be able to open all type of files (also those located in the IMG Archiv es)

So you can read and write all DFFs, TXDs, COLs, IFPs, ANMs and whatever there is?

Bully uses RW. Manhunt 1/2 use it too, AFAIR. GTA LCS/VCS use a different engine. All mobile GTA games (except CTW) use EW aswell. Maybe you can add support for Manhunt 1/2 too :)

It does share some internals with the Renderware-based GTA games though, like with the v1 IMG archive format for example.

I heard that the PS2 one uses .dffs (I readed this on a thread about a Manhunt 2 tool).

It will NOT be the same. I'm in contact with the IMG factory developers. They are focussing on IMG files, but my project will support every file format for all RenderWare games :-)

This is the current UI. Bus as you can see it's not ready yet and needs some re-work. But you'll probably like the result. :-)

It seems like a parody of OpenIV, even if it's not related to it. Hope you will make it's design distinct from it, because for now it seems like OpenIV for RW.

It actually will be like "an" OpenIV for RW. But the design is terrible at the moment and I'm working hard on improving it.

I'd recommend you to start with V tools.
It is more un-researched, so any tool will give you more popularity/likes/etc. there.
If you want to create something valuable for III era games, you must know nearly everything about these games.

Well, I'm not able to research encrypted things, I'll let others do this. If it was that easy, we wouldn't have to wait for other modders. I'm not programming for likes and popularity, I just do it as my hobby and I'm in touch with many well-known modders (like Alexander Blade, Jedijosh, ...)

Well actually I know ALOT of things about RenderWare games. The only help I'll need is with displaying models and this kind of stuff.

Just wait until I release the source code and the first stable version - Then you can rate my tool  :-).

Well now it's a bit more than a week.

Well, I had some new ideas and improved the UI.

 

Currently I'm working on 2 things:

- Display folders and files nice (nearly finished)

- A selector of your game (Vice City or 3, currently) where you enter the games' path (not finished / VERY EASY)

- An automatic updater (not finished / VERY EASY)

 

One guy from the forums here is also helping me with learning C++ and is working on some C++ libraries to work with RenderWare files, maybe we'll include those next to the C# libraries and ofcourse also include the source. :-)

 

 

I don't want to say it'll take 3 days until I can publish the source and the binaries of OpenRW 0.0.1, because I'm not sure about it and am more like "Better safe than sorry" ;-)

 

But atleast here is a new screenshot of the current UI, I am sure, you'll prefer it to the older ones  :D

This is OpenSource :D

Ofcourse there will be an OfflineInstaller!? :D

But the program will come with an updater and you'll need an internet-connection for that :-)

(But you can also download the latest build from GitHub) ;-)
