I wasted a thousand dollars just trying to win a house but I did get about double the money I spent back.

So has anyone actually won a house?

Yes, my 100% Save Topic is pinned in this section, so of course I did.  You need ALL 21 Safehouses for 100%.  It took 15 minutes of buying Lotto Ticket after Lotto Ticket, though.  I probably didn't lose any money, though since every so often after wasting 5 bucks or 20 bucks or whatever the price is, I would win 200 bucks, which would cancel the money I lost out. :D

It takes a while before getting a house, just keep buying the tickets, and makes sure you have some money to spend on the tickets too.

Try winning the lottery in real life.  You may be waiting until death and not win :D

In Chinatown Wars, within 15-20 minutes of constantly buying Ticket after Ticket, it will happen.  You gotta be patient.  You can't rush it.

What Militia said. Just have to keep at it. You'll get one in about 5~15 minutes (depending on how lucky you get.) If you get starved for cash, just run some drugs for a while.

Yeah....Which isn't much time.  Why would it be 15-20 minutes of in-game time?  That's 15-20 seconds, which is like buying 3 Tickets...LOL....You gotta buy like 50 or them to get it, basically...

Every time I tried, it ended in me not winning anything, then crying myself to sleep.

That's nice and I am sure within 5 minutes of driving around you can find a Loto Shop...The Game has been out several years now.  How can someone not know this if they play the Game?

Sucks to be them, then, cuz CW is very fun and the most original GTA in the whole Series and bringing tons of new features to the table that you won't find in ANY other GTA's and probably never will see such great features again...Like the Lottery Tickets, for example.

Drug dealing was really cool too, some of these features should be in next GTA/DLC for GTA V.

I doubt it will happen, but one can only wish :p  But yeah the drug dealing in CW is probably the most fun thing in the game.  A lot of GTA's suffer with finding sh*t to do after 100%, in CW, the drug dealing stays strong since the time it was unlocked and you are able to find Drug Dealers and trade Drugs and have a look in their bag...

I also got it, but I don´t remember exactly how much I spent, but certainly I had to try for about an hour and a half to get it.

I just won an apartment in The Star Plaza.

I used the store a couple of blocks from Huangs original apartment; bought some tickets, clocked up some winnings then nipped back and saved. Revisited, bought tickets and saved. After two saves I had won $3875 and the apartment. The whole deal took about 20 minutes.

This is totally not a bump by the way.

Yeah, it typically only took me about 20 minutes to win, as well.  I want to win the Safehouse in my Starter Save, but am not sure if it will be worth it since within the Starter Save, you have very little money since Drug Dealing isn't unlocked yet.  Drug Dealing straight up is the ONLY way to make a lot of money.  Lottery Tickets themselves are a waste of time since it takes a while to make about $5,000.  But then you use Drug Dealing and can make $200,000 like nothing.  You need about $250,000 just to buy and own all 21 Safehouses in the game, which is required for 100%, anyways.  All the Safehouses are available to buy right from the beginning of the game, but I haven't a clue how to make that much money to buy all of them that early before Drug Dealing is unlocked.  Early, meaning, after Yu Jian or Yu Jian + Pursuit Farce.  I was able to go through a lot of the tasks required for 100% with only having Yu Jian and Pursuit Farce passed and was able to reach 31.86%.  Just if I could buy all the Safehouses and win the one Safehouse, it would be closer to 40% or higher that can be achieved right after the first or second Story Mission in the game.

God damn it, thread bump.

Well looks like I'll take my turn to announce - yes, I have. Few years ago, actually. And it was a little disappointing.
