I started first with GTA Vice City, which I played in a gaming house near my house. Sadly the house was closed after some time and because we didn't have enough money, it was my dream to play it again. After 2 years, I was able to get my hands on Vice City again, now with money and buying the game. This was also the first time I completed the main storyline

I remember seeing a friend of mine, back in the days, playing GTA I or GTA II in his house, I don't remember which one so it doesn't count. But one day, he was playing GTA III, played with him and enjoyed it alot. I got the game at a young age but played it so many times... This is what hooked me to the GTA franchise, now I know almost everything of this game.

I'm still playing it from time to time, and I'm still enjoying it. :)

My first "complete" GTA was GTA London 69. I had Grand Theft Auto (1) in demo version only (limited to 7 minutes if I remember), but I bought (my first game purchased with my own money) the Grand theft London (extension) and it worked with the demo version of GTA "1" (lol).
After that I bought the complete version of Grand theft auto (1).

At this time GTA 1, London and GTA 2 were censored in many countries (Under "Mature content" and prohibited sale). But I leave in a country where products aren't censored nor prohibited (just the mention "not recommended for people under 18 years old") and where we can find easily GTA 1 (+ London 69) and GTA 2 in the local retailers (and big supermarket chains).

What's wrong with your friend? I don't care all that much if he didn't like SA, but not liking VC is just...

I dont have strong memories of playing GTA 1 but I think that was my first. Thank god for that too. Many people start out in the 3D era.

My favorite would be vice city

You're lucky... :)

I started first with GTA Vice City, which I played in a gaming house near my house. After 2 years, I was able to get my hands on Vice City again, now with money and buying the game. This was also the first time I completed the main storyline

I too played Vice City for the first time in a "gaming house" sometime in 2002-2003. They had Playstations and you paid them money for certain amounts of time. It was pretty cheap actually, but not for a kid... I first played games such as Spyro, Bloody Roar, Tekken, Crash Team Racing, Onimusha, et cetara, and then people started playing this game with the cars in the big city. They had a single copy of it, so only one person could play it at a time. I still didn't know its name until they told me it's called "Vice City". The rest is history  :catloaf:

(even drew Tommy's outfit with the Hawaiian shirt and the jeans, but the picture is long lost)

I was either 5 or 6 and my dad owned the original Xbox. He had a really great friend from his work who owned an Xbox as well, but the thing is, he had lots and lots of copies from random videogames. I played an open world game at that guy's house one day when he invited my dad and the family to get some dinner at hus house. I asked my dad's friend to play a game on his Xbox. Thank god he had putten an open world game that I liked a lot (never knew the name). When we had to leave, I was upset, cause I loved playing that game. Seeing my sadness, that guy called me over and handed me two videogame Xbox boxes. I do think those were some kind of special editions, cause there was no logo on them boxes and it had some kind of artwork and I didnt kniw the title. When I arrived home, I opened one of the boxes and inserted the dosc on the tray. Guess what. This was the first one, and it was GTAIII. I loved the game! Other game inserted. I fell in love with the GTA Series. A friend o'mine knew the series and stated he had anothr title. San Andreas. I went to buy it for my PC and it worked. Rest is history ;)

A friend of my brother's 'borrowed' GTA 1 from his older cousin and gloated for days on end about his brand-new PC game...

Two weeks later, I got my own copy, shut him the hell up, and the rest was history...

tbh, that boxart had me hooked from the start.

My first was GTA2 for the PS1. It was actually the very first game I'd have ever played. Its all thanks to my mother who made me the gamer I am today. :D

III

The beginning of a beast.

Spoiler

I feel the same way.  Even though I and II started the Series, it's still not the winning formula we know today.  III is what started what we know and love today.  I and II didn't have my interest.  However, I must admit I only played them on a friend's PC years back for about 30 minutes each.  I just couldn't get into how those GTA's operated.  In fact, I'd rather get into Advance over I and II since Advance, despite the Top Down View, has the same formula as the other GTA's, like III, VC, SA, LCS, VCS, IV, TLaD, TBoGT, CW, and V.

I think it was GTA 2 with the camera above the map, were you looked down on the city.

I couldn't really get into it, although I did much free-roam in th game itself and not many missions.

When they released 3 and I saw you could play in thirdperson vieuw I bought it as soon as possible, or maybe I got it as b-day present. Not sure. But after I got it, I installed it on my pc and started playing it. Haven't complete the game and did by far more missions than I did in the GTA 2. After GTA III, I decided this was one of those franchises that I need to watch.

Owned and played Vice City (+ stories), Liberty City (+ stories), San Andreas were I played a bit of it in free-roam, IV (+ I owned both dlc which I really loved) and now GTA V offcourse.

When I saw a gameplay of GTA2 as a child, I was like "meh, what is this gameplay?" So I sticked to playing Driver 1 and 2 for PSX, by the time when GTA III came out for PS2, I was impressed by the look of the gameplay and this was officially my very first GTA game that I played in my life, what's yours?

I had a go on one of the top down games but hated it. The first one I actually played was San Andreas. Saw the trailer for it and thought it looked like the most amazing game ever.
