So GTA IV as they said, had a bad port, I am not sure for GTA V, however I added poll to see so :)

Actually I had framedrops in GTA IV quite frequently, so I thought I definitely have to upgrade for V if I wanna play in ultra, but I can play without troubles on ultra settings.

For me, GTA V runs much better than GTA IV in comparison of same settings. Very high settings in GTA V, vs high settings in GTA IV, GTA V looking better already achieves stable 55-60FPS. FFS GTA IV can't even run stable on 40fps without frame drops. Rockstar has officially justified the long wait.

The ironic thing is, GTA V is 10x the size of GTA IV, yet it constantly runs at 60fps max settings, compared to the 30fps and constant crashing of IV. It just shows how much work they put into optimising GTA V, and how half-assed thier PC version of IV was.

That is a weird question to make given GTA IV was a direct Xbox 360 port that can't even use more than 2 CPU cores efficiently and GTA V is a decent PC build. If you still don't own GTA V, GTA V is extremely well optimised!

Welp I am getting the game at the end of this month, the reason I made this topic because I have watched videos of people running gta v and gta iv using the game gpu I have, and noticed that when they played with it in GTA IV, it was more laggy that they couldn't even reach 30 fps on low settings, but in gta v, I have seen them playing on medium-high with 30+ fps. which is quite interesting.

Yes, exactly, meaning GTA V is pretty well optimised. If you like those framerates/settings then you're set I'd say, depending on your CPU and RAM! :)

GTA V is extremely well optimized except for LOD issues which I'm sure it'll be fixed in further updates.

It's impossible for V to run worse than IV. With night shadows on, at night my FPS tanked to 16 average, compared to 40 during the day. Going into Chinatown tanked FPS down to 22 during the day, and 10 during night.

Also another notice, there's no difference in performance when switching between native (1366x768) to GeDoSaTo downscaling from 1920x1080, whatsoever. CPU usage never went above 75% on 3 cores, and never above 20% on the 4th core.

So, err, yeah, IV PC is bad, like, atrocious compared to V.

A 7 year old game runs worse than a new one, Rockstar did their job well this time.

The irony is that on my old rig (well, "old" as of the weekend there) IV runs smoother (Win7, 1st gen i7 3.1GHz, 12GB RAM, 2x GTX460's SLI), but on my new system (Win8.1, 5th gen i7 4.0GHz, 16GB RAM, 2x GTX970's SLI) V comes out on top by a mile.

offtopic: Actually, is there a way to lock IV to 30fps on PC? I'd rather have a constant 30 than an intermittent 60 with incessant hitching.

So I'm the only one still getting the stutter? My rig isn't the best(i7 860, 8 GB, GTX 660 Ti and 1TB HDD) but there is no way I should get this stupid stutter on dx10, every setting on the lowest it can possibly go besides my resolution set to 1920x1200. I mean I can get about 56-61fps average frame rate on eventhing on high except grass, no FXAA or MSAA sliders half way, so how does that make any sense that it would stutter after about 30-40 minutes? Also to OP, had basically this same PC when GTA IV came out except my GPU was a Radeon 5850 and that game took so long to get patched up right.

GTA V for sure. I can play GTA V nearly maxed on a GTX760 and overall still get 30+FPS, while on GTA IV I'm sometimes not even reaching 30FPS on max settings.

Well for me, I can run GTA V on medium with 30-50 fps. on gta iv on lowest settings I couldn't even reach 30 fps, so I would vote on my own topic GTA V XD

Gta 4 was over 6 years ago and 5 graphics cards but it ran well. Getting 55 fps on very high/ultra at 4K with Gta 5.

Not with the same settings - Low settings 4k you could totally do 60fps.

This thread is actually quite redundant.

May as well ask also:

What did you have to do to your machine to get decent framerates/visual quality/smooth gameplay?

Here is my answer:

GTA IV: Install the game. Update when Rockstar releases updates. Tweak the living crap out of it. For MONTHS. Do things normally not necessary to play a game on a PC and just get even 30 fps. Turn off every possible program when running the game, so all resources went just to THE GAME. Continue for months and years to try to find new and more efficient ways to make the game run faster.

GTA V: Install the game. Update when Rockstar releases updates. PLAY THE SUMBITCH.

I had to put almost zero effort into getting GTA V to run great. Sure, they provide many more tweakable settings than previous versions of GTA, so it takes a little while to see what settings do with your machine, and how to optimize your machine for best performance. I should say, BEAUTIFUL and INCREDIBLE performance.

But the time necessary to do that is nothing compared to the aeons and centuries and the massive toil of millions of slaves just to get GTA IV to run passably.

It is a no-brainer.

The game is new, calm down, they are releasing updates still. they might have took too long but hey, look how great the game works for others though, I am pretty sure they will release more update and patches to make game run better for everyone :)!

Definitely GTA V, I'm able to get constant 60 fps at tweaked High-V.High settings. On the other side, even with GTX 960 i'm still having issues with GTA IV..

Also playing on a 960, this, too, is my experience.

I was skeptical before release, but the game runs buttery smooth compared to GTA IV and EFLC.
