Unable to connect to game session

Best Answer Barrett_killz, 15 April 2015 - 11:08 PM

Using a VPN software seemed to fix this problem, but I'm having a high ping apparently in sessions. At least it works. Go to the full post

So me and a few friends can't connect to each other in GTA Online, doesn't work even if you accept invitations / join friend's session either from the social club overlay or in-game menu ("Friends" tab), it just gives the error "Unable to connect to game session".
Also, I can't manage to get people into my created jobs (been waiting for like 30 minutes, not a human).

What I've tried:
- Launching from the GTA Online shortcut, as administrator.
- Connecting to friends from the single-player.
- Creating a private lobby for friends.
- Googling didn't help, no information on this error.

What I haven't tried:
- Open my ports (R* titles have issues with ports opening)
- Set up a manual DNS server
- Mess around with router settings
(these 3 might be the solutions, but I heard people are fixing this problem somehow easy).

Did not find a solution, but I also had a similar problem with Max Payne 3 multiplayer, and supposedly you had to open your ports, but it didn't work for me. Someone try this and confirm if it works, please:

https://support.rock...8e85d7a1a45dc3b

GTA Online requires the following ports to be open:

TCP Ports: 80, 443
UDP Ports: 6672, 61455, 61457, 61456, and 61458
Also try:
1. Make sure your router's firmware is upgraded the latest version (very important).
2. Unplug your router for 10 minutes and plug it back in. Some older routers degrade in performance over time until it is rebooted, similar to a PC.
3. Disable any firewall or other network filtering for the game.
4. Enable or disable uPnP (universal plug and play) on your router or the console settings.
5. If you don't care about security, enable DMZ (de-militarized zone) on your router for your console’s address. This turns off all of your router's firewall features for that specific console.
6. Contact your ISP and ask them what your DNS settings should be. Check the Primary and Secondary DNS settings on your console. For more information, see: http://manuals.plays...ectadvance.html, http://support.xbox....-error-solution
7. If you have a combination modem/router unit or ADSL, try setting the unit to "Bridge Mode" to bypass the router part of the hardware. If this fixes the issue, then you may be able to connect a second router between the combination unit and the console to dial the PPPoE connection.
8. If you use an ADSL connection, see if dialing a PPPoE connection from the console improves the NAT Type. Contact your hardware manufacturer manual or ISP for detailed instructions.
9. Some players have found that changing MTU settings can improve their connection. Try changing your MTU to 1473 on your console or PC. For instructions on how to do this, please search www.portforward.com for your router model and follow the instructions there. PS3 and PS4 users can follow the instructions here:

Go to Settings and then to Network.
Go to Set Up Internet Connection, and select “Custom”.
Don’t change any other settings except “MTU” to 1473. If this does not work initially, you may want to try a lower number (such as 1450).

Just fowarded my ports as suggested and it seems to have not really fixed the problem I'm getting the error less often but still not able to join 9/10 times

Using a VPN software seemed to fix this problem, but I'm having a high ping apparently in sessions. At least it works.

I can only connect to lobbies if I click "Find Lobbies" in the Online tab.

What VPN software are you using? I tried SurfEasy, but I still couldn't connect to my friends.
